Tomorrow will indicate Celtic’s true position

271

Since ending their league season on 23 December, Bodo/Glimt have played three friendlies: a draw with Dinamo Kiev, and wins over Denmark’s AGF and Sweden’s Elfdborg, all played in Spain, each opponent is also preseason.  Their next two outings are against Celtic, both should be exhausting encounters for the Norwegians.

You and I have watched enough preseason European football to know what a task this will be for Bodo/Glimt.  Take nothing for granted, though.  Two years ago, after finishing top of our Europa League group, we faced preseason Copenhagen.  A draw in the first leg in Denmark was not enough.  The Danes, who should have ran out of juice before Celtic, scored twice in the closing minutes at Celtic Park to progress.  Norwegian sides have done well over five visits to Celtic Park in the last six years, Rosenborg drew twice and lost twice, while Molde won.

Celtic fans are full of confidence right now.  What we are missing is a test against non-Scottish opposition.  Drubbing a limp Newco gave us hope that we are watching something special.  Tomorrow night will give an indication as to whether that hope is valid.  I expect a far tougher examination.

    ……..

Ive just seen your Post after I had Posted mine.

That Fucking DERANGED CHUMP should be kicked aff this Blog SINE DIE…How about it Paul ?

If he is kicked aff, and tries to REPEAT his deranged rantings by using different Monikers…..kick him aff again

    ———

Big Jimmy – The guy seems to have issues.

Maybe we could help with these issues and let him know what true Celtic supporters are all about if he was to turn up for a pint on the 4 March.

    D :)

  2. Football’s Biggest (Mis)Spenders

Top Five League Clubs with the highest NET transfer spending Aug 2012 to Feb 2022 in Euros.

*League titles won on the far right.

    MAN UTD 1,075m (107m/year ave) 1

    MAN CITY 984 (98.4m/year ave) 4

    PSG 941 (94m/year ave) 7

    BARCA 650 (65m/year ave) 5

    ARSENAL 583 (58m/year ave) 0

    JUVE 561 (56m/year ave) 8

    AC MILAN 432 (43m/year ave) 0

    EVERTON 429 (43m/year ave) 0

Total of 5.07bn Euros for 25 titles, or, average 227m Euros per title gobsmacking. Three clubs spent c£1.5BN and never won a title.

So in England it looks like c100m NET spending is needed to win a title – in Italy and France it may be around c56m to 65m.

German league is a notably absent – Everton is a big surprise. Figures might be a ‘step for a hint’ for Eddie Howe and Newcastle.

Wonder what Celtic’s net/average spend was to win NINE.

  3. The EARLIER Odds that I posted to WIN The Europa Conference are with ” BETFRED”.

With BET365 Celtic are 25/1 and GLIMT are 33/1.

    ………..

Sorry DAVID66, but I believe NUTTERS like him are BEYOND any help..

Once a NUTTER….Always a NUTTER in my book.

    Sorry Mate.

  5. I’m the same as Big Ange, I want us to win every competition we enter, equally though I’m well aware that what I want doesn’t count for anything, cant recall Celtic ever consulting the supporters to ask us what we want or what should be prioritized.

  6. Would really be a help on here,if the deliberately disruptive, multi monikered Muppets, were Scotland Yard asap

  7. Josip Juranovic is set to return for Celtic in time to face Bodo/Glimt tomorrow evening.

The Croatian defender has missed the Hoops’ last two games against Aberdeen and Raith Rovers due to illness.

But Ange Postecoglou has confirmed he is once again available for selection.

However, Mikey Johnston is set to be out for “a little while” after suffering a hamstring strain during the win over Raith.

‘It’s only in recent years that “the league is the priority” has come to mean – forget the rest and field weakened teams so we get knocked out.’

It only means that to the hard of thinking.

    A sensible post.

Besides, if everyone who posts rubbish gets kicked off I’ll be the only one left.

  10. Paddy Power has Celtic at 16 to 1 to win Conference, Leicester & Roma are joint 6 to 1 Favs followed by Marseille, Rennes , PSV , Feyonord next are Celtic & Fernabache,

  11. Jake McPake sacked as manager of Dundee even though they won their last game – OK Cup tie – 3 nil. I’m thinking when they saw Neil Lennon, Jack Ross, Paul Lambert etc declaring an interest in the Aberdeen job, they thought we’ll have some of that. Football – what an utterly ruthless business.

  12. These odds are coloured by fact that 8 teams are already in last 16, the teams playing tomorrow night have an additional game to play,

  13. C40 @ 4.10

I think you need to listen to AP’s press conferences more closely.

He marks the team by its performance not the result.

    Sounds good to me.

  14. The Norwegian opposition will be very rested and fresh. When was the last time a scottish side scored 6 in Italy? Could be a high-scoring game with no away goal complications for the second leg. Enjoy, all those who can get along.

  15. I wouldn’t describe us as having a glass jaw,

Obviously sometimes our performance drops but that is true of every team,

We have managed to win when playing badly which in itself is a good sign,

However I do accept that at European level we do have to be more consistent, but to me it’s a shot to nothing,

the League is the priority, we can just enjoy the European adventure at this stage,

Now if we do make the semis the tension will be back big time but right now I’m relaxed & really looking forward to tomorrows game.

  16. RIMTIMTIM,

The 6 against Roma were scored at home on Plastic Pitch & Roma had sent their reserve side.

  17. Ernie at 5.10

That just sounds like an insult.

It is a cop out to permanently take a negative stance and not offer up an alternative viewpoint.

  18. BIG JIMMY on 16TH FEBRUARY 2022 4:39 PM

Celtic @ 20/1 to WIN The Europa conference League……

Or opponents Tomorrow night BODO GLIMT…are Priced at Odds of 40/1…with the same Bookie.

    Funny that ?

    HH

    —————————————————————

Nothing funny about those odds, BJ.

Bookies odds reflect not only who they think will win, but more importantly how much money they take on each.

Their “book” on who wins the comp has to balance in such a way to maximise profit.

Hence why English teams are always a shorter price than equally talented foreign sides (who have less money taken on them winning).

IF (and it’s a big if) Celtic were to win the tournie, the bookies liabilities (total payouts) would be substantially more than if Bodo/Glimt were to win it – purely because of the amount staked on each team by their customers.

Bookmakers run a business, so finance dictates odds. And there’s no such thing as a poor bookie.

    :-)

I remember getting a paper survey handed to us at a game in the early 90s to ask if we wanted a new all-seater stadium or keep the existing stadium and spend money on players. I voted to keep the existing stadium.

I think the published the result in the press to justify their stance. The law changed pretty quickly after that, hence the Cambuslang panic and the rest is history (along with the atmosphere!)

Cambuslang – had forgotten all about that – one more thing to thank wee Fergus for!

  22. There is no doubt that there are weaknesses in our squad, albeit it is much stronger than any of dared to imagine in the early months of the season.

We are now performing better and have set a high-standard in some games. However there are glaring weaknesses apparent to all in some of our displays when that standard drops off. To some extent our overall results and progress masks this – but the evidence of our own eyes cannot.

We still may, with a continuation of our improvement, be good enough to win the treble this season….not out of the question!

We are ‘work in progress’ – at times the progress looks remarkable, other times, not so – but there is opTIMism – that’s great!!!

  23. SPL odds — bit of a surprise over the past 10 days.

We are now settling down at 1/2.

With our friends in Govan moving out to 6/4.

All the money would appear to be going us at their expense.

Not sure the gap is so big — my thoughts are that it is a 52/48 toss up.

Either that or the Ludge MIB have been told to stand down.

Anyway not a betting guy so no odds to me.

However it is interesting to see how the money men are viewing the SPL.

What is the penalty for an in season admin event?

Is this possibility colouring the numbers?

The Old Board must have been watching an episode of Yes Minister when they dreamt up that old wheeze.

Absolute chancers / amateurs in equal measure.

  25. On the ticket allocation for the Theatre of hate, I have not been to a away game there since the old rangers died.

Before that I probably had been to about 5.

A few wonderful memories skelping the Huns but also dissapoinments.

It’s easy for folk to tell them to stuff it and were no going and we don’t want them at Celtic park. I do get that, but for many fans going there was a great experience obviously better if we got a result.

To tell a young fan they will never have the opportunity we had is unfair I think.

We should be pushing for more than 800 though which means the animals will get the same at Paradise. HH 🍀

  26. Did the Old Board not rustle up a consultation paper / exercise before they extended tye roof of the old CFC end?

Same guff — players or seats.

Unfortunately their ideas / arguments was accepted by the support.

Or at least they said it had — fiddle factor in the days of the non networked turnstiles?

  27. Paul – can you please remove “Park the Bus” from the blog & delete his posting rights.

    Thanks

  28. CARDBOARDCSC

    Absolutely spot on.

I have no intention of ever going to see Rangers v Celtic at Ibrox, but I know a couple of supporters who have been among the 800 recently.

800 supporters cheering on the Bhoys in enemy territory is better than nothing.

I don’t believe Strachan’s report was ever intended to be made public. He was brought in on a temprary contract to produce a report for the Board of Directors.

Ange hinted recently at future structural changes at the club. I took that to be as a result of Strachan’s report.
