Tomorrow will indicate Celtic’s true position

271

Since ending their league season on 23 December, Bodo/Glimt have played three friendlies: a draw with Dinamo Kiev, and wins over Denmark’s AGF and Sweden’s Elfdborg, all played in Spain, each opponent is also preseason.  Their next two outings are against Celtic, both should be exhausting encounters for the Norwegians.

You and I have watched enough preseason European football to know what a task this will be for Bodo/Glimt.  Take nothing for granted, though.  Two years ago, after finishing top of our Europa League group, we faced preseason Copenhagen.  A draw in the first leg in Denmark was not enough.  The Danes, who should have ran out of juice before Celtic, scored twice in the closing minutes at Celtic Park to progress.  Norwegian sides have done well over five visits to Celtic Park in the last six years, Rosenborg drew twice and lost twice, while Molde won.

Celtic fans are full of confidence right now.  What we are missing is a test against non-Scottish opposition.  Drubbing a limp Newco gave us hope that we are watching something special.  Tomorrow night will give an indication as to whether that hope is valid.  I expect a far tougher examination.

I thought that as it was publicly launched the results may also have been made known – even if it was only headlines

  3. Instead of some on here having personal agendas ,I would for a change like a rumour mill wether they are true or made of what if any changes of redevelopment up in Lennoxtown also what is the latest with Barrowfield upgrades, and also inside our outside our Stadium, and who do you think will be the next manages at Aberdeen and Dundee,☘️☘️👏

I think you need to listen to AP’s press conferences more closely.

He marks the team by its performance not the result.

But not the “glass jaw.” He rarely, if ever comments on the performance of the defence, at the weekend he was angry at our attacking performance. It’s always about the team, collectively. This was a recent answer to a question about the defense

I’m not sure there’s a better metric of measuring defensive performance over an extended period than goals conceded. Maybe xg conceded and actual goals conceded against xg conceded. Our xg conceded stats are excellent, and we only concede about half of expected goals.

  5. Sorry, euphoria laden days spent in the Broomloan, our half of their old Centenary stand, can never be recaptured standing in a small corner of Pandemonium, being drowned out by 50,000 scum.Terrible view, too near them, and beset by danger going to and fro.Give back the original 7.000 each, and I am all for it.

Do not let them set the agenda. They chose it,let them stew in it.

  6. True or Made up ?

Lennoxtown has got planning consent to build a big wheel like the London Eye, the structure will be 14ft high and have 3 gondolas suitable for 2 small children each.

Barrowfield is adding the famous Saint Mirren dismantled stand currently hidden in one of the easdales big sheds to the west touchline of the new pitch, this will provide seating for the 70 spectators who regulalry attend the womens games.

Celtic PLC have secured funding via a Real Estate investment trust to build a new main stand. The desing and build contract has been awarded to MM ITCH AND CO a noteable builder of many garden structures.

    Like that you mean ?

  7. Next managers made up speculations –

Aberdeen – well know they covet the dream team of John Kennedy and Gavin Strachan, with Broony as first team coach.

Dundee – already made approaches for Barry Ferguson, Bob Malcom, Tom the tv guy, and the kitman bigot.

For both I think its pretty obvious its going to be Paul Hartley.

  8. Interestingly, (or perhaps not) Celtic and Sevco have very similar xg conceded figures but we concede 25% less actual goals than them

We give up as many goalscoring chances but concede significantly fewer, even when you take our poor start into consideration.

Funny how confirmation bias can work

  9. GENE

I believe it was the appointment of Strachan that was publicised because he was already employed by Dundee. Obviously the board had to declare the reasons behind the appointment.

I was up the hill and doon the hill on route to Den of the Bears other week there, and I can never pass the Fiaifley turn off withoout remembering a Port Youth club vs Clydebank team but played on a tiny gravel football pitch in the primary school (st joes maybe), i did score a few goals but it ended up in a big fight and pile on the mini bus withoug going in to get changed,

Some of my best ever times following Celtic were at Ibrox.

2-2 10 men game when TB was sent off

4-4 game in 86 which was the last point we dropped that season

The Kenny Dalglish trilogy in 1971 ??

    2-1 in Centenary season

    Beach all Sunday

Near wee Fergus when Brian O Neil won it 2-1

3-0 Henrick and Lubo (watched from the Govan Stand)

2-1 Charlie Nic (watched from Copeland Rd)

1-0 John Hartson (watched from the directors box)

    2-0 Alan Thompson

    2-0 Sammi

    5-1 Brendan

    3-2 Red Card

2-0 Ed and Hayes (from the wee corner)

There is nothing quite like seeing their misery in all its glory first hand. The sheer joy of going there and putting them where they belong.

For 5 decades my old man never saw us win there. Yet in my life I think I have seen it more than 25 times.

We have truly lived in the best of Celtic times which it is good to reflect on occasionally.

Wild horses would not keep me away if I get a ticket for Aprils game. Even more so if we could win the league and have a European Qtr final to look forward to later that week.

my newphew was in a corporate box when we were locked out and collins scored, he said his “friends and business leaders” turned on him after the game, and it was the worst football event of his life.

and he is no snow-flake but genuinely thought his time was up.

Just worked out it is mathematically impossible to win the league at Ibrox this season. Acht

There was a spell in the early / mod 80s where it was easy to get a ticket for their end and I took the chance. It was better if it was main stand enclosure as you could sneak along to our bit via the loos.

I mistakenly took a ticket for the Govan stand once thinking it was an invite for hospitality the day we lost 4-0 in 2000 I think it was ? It was awful. But I had the chance of the same seat a year later and took it to see Henrik and Lubo win as we had all but won the league by then. That was amazing.

I was last to leave the Govan stand waving at all the Celtic fans in the Broomloan and laughing at the box holders in the Argyle.

Boardroom was as a sponsor of both teams which was always a laugh. Although we had a few defeats too such as the 3-2 league cup under Mon after extra time. My last game there was Sami 2-0 !

So hard to pick the best for me but being in the 800 in the wee corner when Hayes scored was incredible.

  22. JVR

The 3 league wins at Ibrox in 83 we’re even more amazing as neither Celtic or Rangers won the leagues in either seasons.

I didn’t go to the September one which was Davie Hays first one but I did go to the 2 Charlie Nic games. Big Billy’s farewell coming from 2-0 down at Half time. I still thought we were destined to win the league that day. But United prevailed despite our 4 goal blitz.

  24. When David Murray banned Celtic fans from Ibrox, my dearly departed brother John was invited to the club deck by his business partner. Obviously he was told, no colours and keep your mouth shut. Collins scored twice in a 2-0 Celtic victory.

For the last 15 minutes, John was shaking his head and in a loud voice he was saying:

    This is absolute rubbish Rangers.

    Get the finger out.

They’re giving us a football lesson fur fox ache.

    What an embarrassment.

They’re ripping the piss out of us.

Soon a lot of Huns around him were agreeing and throwing their own abuse at their team.

John’s mate just sat there cringeing. Needless to say that was the last time he took him to Ibrox.
