TON-UP BHOY RODGERS – HIGHLIGHT NUMBER 2, CELTIC 5 SEVCO RANGERS 1

0

BRENDAN RODGERS will become a Celtic Centurian today when he takes charge of the Hoops for the 100th time against Hibs.

The irishman, who replaced Ronny Deila in the Parkhead dug-out in May 2016, has lost only one of his 75 games against domestic opposition.

There have also been 64 triumphs and 10 draws.

In Europe, the story hasn’t quite followed along similar lines.

Rodgers has seen his team win eight, lose 11 and draw five of his 24 European encounters.

Overall, the champions have scored 156 Premiership goals, 22 in the Scottish Cup, 26 in the League Cup and 36 in Europe for a total of 240.

They have conceded 90 times over the same period, 45 of them in European competition.

Rodgers became only the third manager in the club’s history to complete a domestic clean sweep following the legendary Jock Stein who managed the feat twice in 1966/67 and 1968/69.

Martin O’Neill also went into the Celtic Hall of Fame when he lifted the treble in his debut season in 2000/01.

MOUSSA DEMBELE ran amok as he collected a hat-trick in Rodgers’ debut in the Glasgow derby encounter at a sell-out Parkhead.

The French Under-21 international striker, bought for a mere £500,000 development fee from Fulham in the summer, marked his first appearance in the Glasgow derby with a sizzling threesome as Scott Sinclair and Stuart Armstrong added the others. Joe Garner got the Ibrox side’s consolation goal.

It was the first of six meetings of the teams during the campaign with the Irishman enjoying four more successes – including another 5-1 success at Ibrox in April – while there was also a 1-1 draw at Parkhead in March.

Rodgers commented: “It was an incredible atmosphere. It does make it sweet when you play that well. Moussa is a top talent, too. He scored three wonderful and different types of goals, but, of course, today was about the team.”
