TON-UP BHOY RODGERS – THE INVINCIBLE TREBLE, Number 4

0

BRENDAN RODGERS will become a Celtic Centurian today when he takes charge of the Hoops for the 100th time against Hibs.

The irishman, who replaced Ronny Deila in the Parkhead dug-out in May 2016, has lost only one of his 75 games against domestic opposition.

There have also been 64 triumphs and 10 draws

In Europe, the story hasn’t quite followed along similar lines.

Rodgers has seen his team win eight, lose 11 and draw five of his 24 European encounters.

Overall, the champions have scored 156 Premiership goals, 22 in the Scottish Cup, 26 in the League Cup and 36 in Europe for a total of 240.

They have conceded 90 times over the same period, 45 of them in European competition.

Rodgers became only the third manager in the club’s history to complete a domestic clean sweep following the legendary Jock Stein who managed the feat twice in 1966/67 and 1968/69.

Martin O’Neill also went into the Celtic Hall of Fame when he lifted the treble in his debut season in 2000/01.

SIX OF THE BEST FOR RODGERS – HIGHLIGHT NUMBER 4 – The History Maker

CELTIC 2 ABERDEEN 1: Scottish Cup Final (May 27, 2017)

TOM ROGIC completed a fabulous season with virtually the last kick of the ball when he sealed the trophy hat-trick against the Dons at rain-drenched Hampden.

The Aussie midfielder strolled through a backtracking rearguard before slotting in the winner at Joe Lewis’ near post in the fading moments of a hard-fought grand finale.

Celtic had been stunned by Jonny Hayes’ opening goal following a right-wing corner-kick, but Stuart Armstrong levelled within two minutes of a frantic first-half.

Two minutes into stoppage time, Rogic waltzed through to score and bring the curtain down on an amazing first season at Celtic for Rodgers.

The delighted Irishman said: “Maybe the stars were aligned this year. I remember the centenary year for Celtic and there’s just a feeling about this season. It’s a huge honour. To achieve this in the first season, along with everything else we have done, is very humbling.”
