CELTIC’S inspirational captain Callum McGregor has been named Premiership Player of the Month for August.
The commanding midfielder has been in scintillating form since the season’s kick-off and looked odds-on to win the top man award, announced today by the SPFL.
McGregor’s influence on his team-mates has been obvious over the years, but he has added goalscoring to his repertoire in this campaign with three truly spectacular strikes as the champions have remained at the league’s pinnacle.
ONE…Callum McGregor is congratulated by Cameron Carter-Vickers, Greg Taylor and Liam Scales after his strike against Hibs in Edinburgh.
TWO…Callum McGregor lashes in the opening goal in the 3-0 victory over St Mirren in Paisley.
THREE…Callum McGregor watches his whizzbang strike head for the back of the Ibrox club’s net.
The 31-year-old anchorman, who has quit the Scotland international scene to concentrate on club matters, gave a hint of things to come with a rasping effort in the 2-0 win over Hibs at Easter Road as he added to Nicolas Kuhn’s early breakthrough counter.
McGregor opened the scoring in Brendan Rodgers’ side’s 3-0 victory over at Mirren in Paisley with Reo Hatate and Alistair Johnston also getting on the scoresheet.
And the ultra-consistent performer brought down the curtain on his team’s derby triumph when he added to first-half efforts from Daizen Maeda and Kyogo Furuhashi with an unstoppable long-range drive that hurtled high past Jack Butland at his right.
Now Hearts – and former Hoops team-mate Craig Gordon – will be in his sites when the clubs meet at Parkhead tomorrow afternoon.
