Top of the table specialists

St Mirren are on a Christmas hangover which lasted past Valentines and through to the end of winter (today).  Their nine league games in that period have brought defeats to St Johnstone, Dundee, Kilmarnock, Hearts, Dundee United and Celtic.

The only team outside the top four who have not recorded a win over St Mirren in that time is Ross County, who last met the Paisley side a few days before Christmas.  Despite that, there is a buoyancy around Steve Robinson’s side, largely because of results against the teams in second, third and fourth in the table.

You probably didn’t hear, as the result did not materially affect Celtic’s lead, but a week ago, St Mirren beat Newco for the second time since Christmas.  They also went to Pittodrie and won 0-3 and are the only team to stop Hibs scoring in their last 14 games, when the teams drew 0-0 earlier this month.

Defeat to Hearts midweek meant they slipped out of the top six with five games to play before the split.  Claiming another top four scalp tomorrow is beginning to look crucial to their chances of a close to the season that delivers a good payday.

Our two earlier games against St Mirren this season ended in 3-0 wins for the champions.  If anything, the away performance was more convincing.  The extra day’s rest Celtic have, combined with St Mirren’s less familiar challenge of playing twice in a week, should be enough to see another sound win for the visitors.  After all, the gap between top of the table, and those in second, third and fourth, is as wide as Paisley Abbey.

Zalensky done well not to walk out on these prks, it was a total set up from the start, Trump insults his clothes, and the planted journalist asked if he owned a suit,VZ said he does and better than the one he had on

Cheers. She’s fine and has survived me for a month. 😁

Was talking to a Chester fan yesterday and he told me they sold their main stand roof to Port Vale years ago. Is this true? He’s a bit of a wind up merchant. 😂

I have no idea – but of course they went bust and are now a new club formed in 2010 – no same club rubbish here

Aipple, a very fine post which I totally support.

Where does the world go now that these fools have turned it on its head

To be fair Gerry Trump has never deserted his allies. Still best friends with Putin, Kim and Netanyahu.

  7. Only surprise when that arse asked about Zelensky wearing a suit was he didn’t mention brown brogues too.

  8. fanadpatriot on

Zelensky was stitched up by Trump and his plants.

If we didn’t know better you would think Trump strings are pulled by Putin.

A very dangerous time for Europe

  9. Is an abolition of the 2 term presidency on his agenda, our they will just groom a clone which won’t be hard looking at who he surrounds himself with, continuing the dictatorial fascist menu of policies, like Putin he thinks countries boundaries are lines on a map,i.e. Canada wants Greenland hells knows what he has decided with Putin for Europe.

Just read on Celtic news now that Rodgers and Johnston will be leaving us …yesterday it was Maeda …is this a Celtic publication ?…seems more like the Daily Ranger ? 🤔

  11. If this pitch is as bad as Robinson says it is then it is doubtful that today will be a footbal spectacle , a day for the basketball game so maybe BR will start Idah in the 9 position, they will just pump highballs into our box and look for anything.

  12. DESSYBHOY re: more than two terms

That is on their agenda, yes. Even Bannon was shouting about 2028 on the stage last week.

  13. If Americans cannot see the way this is going then nothing will convince them, or maybe that’s what they want.

  14. morton bought the kerr road stand from st mirren when they moved grounds, when was that now 15 years or so.

Some reasonably prominent (and reasonable) social commentators predicted a cuddlier Trump second time around.

    Respectfully, that is wishful thinking.

Always a chance it’ll fall apart before four years of course.

Can’t be easy for a narcissistic, money grabbing dealmaker to process (on a daily basis) that his biggest “supporter” is 25 years younger and 70 times richer.

Regarding O.J. This guy should not be allowed to spout his filth on here.

He may be mentally ill or just a complete scumbag, but we should not have to put up with such bottom feeding obscenity on this site.

Ray, there is of course the probability that he/she is just a Hun on here trolling us? That is why I never, ever engage with him/her.

Agree re. not being able to spout his filth on here. Free-speech comes with a caveat – the ‘speaker’ should not enjoin with specific content violations, usually threats or abuse.

  18. `Free-speech comes with a caveat – the ‘speaker’ should not enjoin with specific content violations, usually threats or abuse.`

In which case, it is not free-speech.

  19. Jaw jaw is always better than war war.

Even if that jaw jaw makes us squirm sometimes.

That doesn’t mean Trump is not an arse, mind you

    Blessed are the peacemakers

  20. HOT SMOKED, do you mean anyone can say anything to anyone, all in the spirit of ‘free speech’? Does free speech not come with some form of responsibility? I don’t mean disagreeing with people, or even saying something that others find disagreeable, I mean being deliberately abusive. Spouting racism and/or sectarianism towards minorities is, in my view, a form of ‘free speech’ which should not be tolerated.

  21. SUNDAY 1ST

I am standing on the threshold of another trembling world. May God have mercy on my soul.

My heart is very sore because I know that I have broken my poor mother’s heart, and my home is struck with unbearable anxiety. But I have considered all the arguments and tried every means to avoid what has become the unavoidable: it has been forced upon me and my comrades by four-and-a-half years of stark inhumanity.

I am a political prisoner. I am a political prisoner because I am a casualty of a perennial war that is being fought between the oppressed Irish people and an alien, oppressive, unwanted regime that refuses to withdraw from our land.

I believe and stand by the God-given right of the Irish nation to sovereign independence, and the right of any Irishman or woman to assert this right in armed revolution. That is why I am incarcerated, naked and tortured.

Foremost in my tortured mind is the thought that there can never be peace in Ireland until the foreign, oppressive British presence is removed, leaving all the Irish people as a unit to control their own affairs and determine their own destinies as a sovereign people, free in mind and body, separate and distinct physically, culturally and economically.

I believe I am but another of those wretched Irishmen born of a risen generation with a deeply rooted and unquenchable desire for freedom. I am dying not just to attempt to end the barbarity of H-Block, or to gain the rightful recognition of a political prisoner, but primarily because what is lost in here is lost for the Republic and those wretched oppressed whom I am deeply proud to know as the ‘risen people’.

There is no sensation today, no novelty that October 27th brought. (The starting date of the original seven man hunger-strike) The usual Screws were not working. The slobbers and would-be despots no doubt will be back again tomorrow, bright and early.

I wrote some more notes to the girls in Armagh today. There is so much I would like to say about them, about their courage, determination and unquenchable spirit of resistance. They are to be what Countess Markievicz, Anne Devlin, Mary Ann McCracken, Marie MacSwiney, Betsy Gray, and those other Irish heroines are to us all. And, of course, I think of Ann Parker, Laura Crawford, Rosemary Bleakeley, and I’m ashamed to say I cannot remember all their sacred names.

Mass was solemn, the lads as ever brilliant. I ate the statutory weekly bit of fruit last night. As fate had it, it was an orange, and the final irony, it was bitter. The food is being left at the door. My portions, as expected, are quite larger than usual, or those which my cell-mate Malachy is getting.

  22. Quite surprised by the amount of pro war rhetoric on here.

Maybe sombody has to grasp the nettle and upset people to make peace.

Ukraine is in a demographic nightmare. Unless there is peace soon there will be no indigeous people left to ensure Ukraine’s future.

There is a massive shortage of young men now, with a proportional unsustainable amount of old folk.

Over 800,000 woman of child bearing age havt left and most will never return.

A rapid peace is the only viable option for Ukraine., If there is to be a Ukraine as we know it.

A hard truth , but truth nevertheless.

  27. he International Football Association Board have approved a major rule change that will impact goalkeepers from next season.

The game’s lawmakers met at their annual AGM in Belfast, Northern Ireland this afternoon and voted unanimously in favour of amending Law 12.2, which will help tackle time wasting by goalies. From 2025/26, if the keeper holds the ball for more than eight seconds, the referee will award a corner kick to the opposing team rather than an indirect free kick.

On-field refs will count down the the final five seconds with their hands to avoid any confusion. The meeting, chaired by the Irish Football Association, was also attended by representatives from FIFA, The FA, the Scottish FA, the FA of Wales and The IFAB administration.
