Trading well is everything

288

Trading well is everything.  Two years ago we watched a World Cup game between our then right back, playing for Croatia, and the right back we were interested in, who played for Canada.  Josip Juranovic went to the semifinal with Croatia, while Alistair Johnston’s Canada went home without a point.

Celtic’s recruitment system told them to trade Josip and buy Johnston.  Alistair was the gold nugget lost in the MLS.  This and trades like it, gave Celtic a football identity which brought the latest wave of trophies.  It is Tier 1 operating mechanism, learned from City Football Group, and aligned to what Hearts have now signed up with.

I am delighted Alistair has signed a new deal that could keep him at the club until 2029.  He has the ability and fitness to be a stand out for us in the Champions League for all that time.

Still, ‘Trading well is everything’.  You and I have learned so much since we watched the wheels come off Martin O’Neill’s great team, as it expired through age.  My suspicion is that we will do less trading like the Juranovic-Johnston deals going forward and more deals like Adam Idah and Arne Engels.

The deal is a good boost ahead of the trip to Tynecastle, not to mention this morning’s AGM.

  1. I, and two family members, attended the AGM and were informed and entertained in equal measure.

What we got was ‘the truth and nothing but the truth’ from the top table. There was much straight-talking and lots of common sense.

However the usual middle segment of the above quotation, ‘the whole truth’ was conspicuous by its absence, specifically in the area of the bullying behaviour of those fans who use Celtic as a vehicle and platform for political demonstration and the persistent use of pyrotechnics.

The CEO suggested that pyro was not a problem exclusive to Celtic, which is true, but gave no hint of in-house steps being taken to combat the problem and the UEFA fines that are racked-up in consequence. Likewise the politically-driven match-day behaviour of those in the so-called North Curve collective seemed to be glossed over.

I’d like to think that there is some initiative being hatched in the background to eradicate all of the above which the club is not yet ready to reveal, but is it actually showing signs of impotence – unable, and/or unwilling to act?

The Scottish Football authorities must step up and give a strong lead on the pyro menace. It is illegal for a person over 18 years to let off a firework, flare or smoke bomb in a public place, so what is the police doing about it? There is no cohesive approach at this juncture.

The proactive intervention by club stewards to uphold their club policy at Chelsea in the Women’s CL match, albeit on a smaller scale, shows that where there is the will, there’s a way.

Left unchallenged bullies become bolder, more coercive, more aggressive and ultimately a law unto themselves. Is the club really going to allow a few hundred in our midst to dictate how the magnificent Celtic support is perceived at Celtic Park and every away ground it visits? Are we ultimately destined to wait for more severe EUFA fines/draconian bans and, God forbid, a pyro fatality before something is done? HH

  2. A 19.45 hrs kick off on a Saturday night is a disgrace.

Its ok for watching on TV, but outrageous for attending fans who should be the priority.

    BOXING DAY 199?.

I remember travelling to this game in a Van from BAIRDS BAR.

This was the night of DI CANIO’S GOLDEN BOOTS……and he delivered an outstanding piece of skill to score the winner in the Bumblebee strip.

    Celtic won 2 – 1.

I can NOT remember the Time of the Kick Off….but it was well past Midnight before I got home in that Van ( If I remember correctly ? )

Can anyone remember the Kick Off Time on that Boxing Day/Night ?

  8. Ive just watched the Goals again from that Boxing Day/Night Fixure of Aberdeen v Celtic in 1996/97 season.

I had forgotten how brilliant Celtics 1st Goal was that night also….Great skill from MORTON WEIGHORST on the wing at the corner Flag….a great cross….and a BULLET Header from JORGE CADETTE….Super stuff.

DI CANIO’s Golden Boots winning Goal….controlled the long pass with his left foot….flicked it over the Goalies head with his right foot…and TAPPED it into a Empty Net from 2 yards out………SUPER DUPER STUFF…and SUPERBLY OUTRAGEOUS SKILL FROM DI CANIO.

    Ah… Golden memories.

  10. Drumchapel No.1 CSC had a huge Celtic jersey flag made up with the old Carling logo on the front. This resulted in Celtic being fined twice by UEFA for breaching an advertising rule due to their sponsorship with Amstel. The fines were £20k and £15k. The CSC was called into Celtic Park and told that it was fine for domestic games but not for European games.

    7.45pm kick off.

    I was there too.

    ………..

Cheer Mate. I KNEW it was a night time kick off but I could NOT be precise about the exact time of the kick off.

It was shocking that the Celtic support had to travel that distance on a BOXING DAY/NIGHT. I had intended on watching the game in my Burds Hoose on SKY SPORTS that evening, so I went for a good Bevvy in BAIRDS BAR from early that morning. At some point in the afternoon some Celtic fan fan offered me a Ticket for the game in the Pub, and I then got the the chance of a lift in that Van to and from the game.

I had consumed plenty of Beer that day…God knows how I made it to Aberdeen especially when I was in the back of the Van with NAE WINDEAS….and a couple of Celtic Bhoys beside me smoking WACCY BACCY ?

    LOL.

My Burd thought I was MENTAL to travel to Aberdeen that night especially with the game being LIVE on SKY Sports.

Hi Jimmy, not to be dramatic, but I work for ann energy supplier and this is what’s classed as an emergency situation. Especially given the current weather.

You’re housing association HAVE to get your heating back on asap, not 2nd December. There are places like Screwfix etc open on Saturday’s these days. No excuse for not having the parts.

Get onto them now or, if you can’t get them on a Saturday (they should have an emergency number) phone your gas provider to report that you’ve got no heating. They can advise you what to do next.

Definitely get yourself the heater anyway. Just in case you end up with no heating again. Means you’re ready for it.

    Hope you get sorted. 👍

  21. Watching Falkirk last night,it is glaringly obvious their only problem is in the striker department.

Was thinking, maybe, instead of just attending 1st team training sessions a couple of times a week,it would be a better idea to loan Cummings out to them from January.

John Mc Glynn has them playing similar to us.Get the boy stepped up,from the Central league.

  22. Just a terrible thought. If Aberdeen win today and midweek,it would put them 3 points clear. If they maintained their form, with us,until the Cup final weekend ,they could go 6 points clear.

We have to go there on Dec 4th.BIG GAME.

They have St Mirren,Hibs,Hearts, all away before that.

    Just saying.

  24. Big Jimmy, in the advert for British gas, if you report a faulty boiler before 11am they promise to be there the same day.

They still probably sting you price wise but you don’t even need to be a customer with them.

Maybe try claiming the money back off your housing association ?

  25. lets all do the huddle on

Its ok for watching on TV, but outrageous for attending fans who should be the priority.

we have 600 tickets and the stadium is 1 hour along the road.

i wonder how many empty seats there will be in the celtic end?

    zero.

obviously wont be that much of an inconvenience for them to get there then

You went to the Celtic AGM

You were displeased that “Bullying” by the Green Brigade’s politics were not addressed

Seems a simple solution to me

    Ask the question yourself!

Seems nobody else attending felt “bullied” enough to want to raise it.

But, you are confident that your “fellow” fans would want this stopped just as you do.

I KNOW there is an Argos near me in Stockwell St. I order a few items from there quite often. In fact I am already waiting a delivery from there this Tuesday…A 15 TOG QUILT, Some Bedding and other bits and bobs.

A 15 TOG Quilt was the heaviest that I could find ?

Ive got off to a great start with the Horses and the Bookies Today starting with the PUNCHESTOWN11.30am Race, the winner on Two lines and the Forecast of just over £34.00 for my £1.00 Stake. I also have Two other winners on separate lines so far.

    LOL.

  29. Just because Celtic fans will be in attendance doesn’t make the kick off time ” normal”and acceptable.

This ko time is not normal and treats attending supporters with contempt. Imo.

The picture is an artist impression, happens all the time. The club specifically said what current plans were and pointed to future phases of work which would include a grand stand. Celtic never applied to put a grand stand in place, the full applications by celtic to glasgow city are in the planning portal.
