Trading well is everything

Trading well is everything.  Two years ago we watched a World Cup game between our then right back, playing for Croatia, and the right back we were interested in, who played for Canada.  Josip Juranovic went to the semifinal with Croatia, while Alistair Johnston’s Canada went home without a point.

Celtic’s recruitment system told them to trade Josip and buy Johnston.  Alistair was the gold nugget lost in the MLS.  This and trades like it, gave Celtic a football identity which brought the latest wave of trophies.  It is Tier 1 operating mechanism, learned from City Football Group, and aligned to what Hearts have now signed up with.

I am delighted Alistair has signed a new deal that could keep him at the club until 2029.  He has the ability and fitness to be a stand out for us in the Champions League for all that time.

Still, ‘Trading well is everything’.  You and I have learned so much since we watched the wheels come off Martin O’Neill’s great team, as it expired through age.  My suspicion is that we will do less trading like the Juranovic-Johnston deals going forward and more deals like Adam Idah and Arne Engels.

The deal is a good boost ahead of the trip to Tynecastle, not to mention this morning’s AGM.

Drumchapel No.1 CSC had a huge Celtic jersey flag made up with the old Carling logo on the front. This resulted in Celtic being fined twice by UEFA for breaching an advertising rule due to their sponsorship with Amstel. The fines were £20k and £15k. The CSC was called into Celtic Park and told that it was fine for domestic games but not for European games.

Celtic have previously shown firmness when desired.

    A salient point.

Let’s be clear EUFA had success with a ban(suspended) after the Dortmund game and we were able to enjoy Atalanta and Leipzig pyro free. I believe those who do will also desist against Brugge, Zagreb and Young Boys, however they’re powder may only be being kept dry for a ‘Blowout in Birmingham’.

I fear for that fixture, not I hasten to add for the team, but what might happen off the field. Our GBNC friends are savvy and will know that with qualifying next season we may not reach the CL groups and may view triggering the suspended ban and possibly a futher, both in the EL, as worth it for the opportunity to further sully our name against Aston Villa.

We are in the best financial shape that we, or any other Scottish club, has ever been in – we couuld afford to ‘take the hit’, identify those responsible, and refund their season cards in full. The slack could be taken up by issuing half-season cards to the waiting list, or, we could just wait until next season…. free from hassle – free from embarrassment – free from the threat of bans and fines.

We have got to stop the tail wagging the dog!!!!

  4. Hearty congratulations are in order for James Forrest. I am so glad that the club has extended his stay with us for at least another year. We will win honours this season and next and so jamsie will become Celtic’s ‘gong king’. Sad to see Bobby Lennox overtaken, however I’m sure he will be there to wish his fellow Ayrshireman all the best when the time comes.

A good news story and together with this year’s Christmas tear-jerker of a video, reinforces why we’re supporters of the best club in the world – bar none

Smart move by Celtic extending the James Forrest legend literally writing his name in perpetuity. Great servant to the club, great club to the servant.

I don’t to my knowledge remember any stone island gear but I’m sure I’ve had something from River Island in the past.

Yes, was made to wear a ‘jaggy wool’ balaclava going to primary school – my auntie Annie made them for all the cousins – think I took mine to the rag-man.

Also yes to imagination- as Einstein said:
