TRANSFER RUSH FOR HOOPS KID

LEE O’CONNOR, Celtic’s summer signing from Manchester United, is on his way out at the champions.

Neil Lennon is willing to allow the Republic of Ireland international defender to leave on loan to get much-needed game-time.

That has sparked interest in the 19-year-old who is comfortable at right-back or centre-half. A number of teams have been alerted and there is likely to be a rush to get a temporary switch done in the remaining days of this transfer window.

One club already interested is Partick Thistle, tomorrow night’s Scottish Cup opponents at Firhill. English League One side Oxford United are also reported to be monitoring the situation.

Hoops boss Lennon is keen for the teenager to get first-team games in the second half of the season and he hopes to make a decision on the player’s destination in the near future. A move to the Scottish Championship or the English lower leagues would suit, according to media reports.

O’Connor, without a first-team appearance for either Celtic or the Old Trafford side, made his Irish debut against New Zealand in November and is highly rated at Parkhead.
