I know we’ve touched on this before, but I continue to see, “Why do Celtic always leave it until the last minute?’ question asked about the transfer window. This is not a difficult question, in fact, it is the easiest question you will ever get about how football works.
Why do Brighton always leave it to the last minute? Why do Manchester City always leave it to the last minute? [Brighton, Man City and Celtic have, of course, already signed players]. Brighton are apparently very keen to sign Matt O’Riley, but here we are, on the 22 August, their season is already underway and Matt is knocking about Lennoxtown this morning.
We all know why this is. Matt is under contract and Celtic want to keep him, so will leave it until they are sure it is right to sell, that they have extracted the highest possible bid, and that they have backfill. How is it possible to know how sellers act when you are connected to the seller, but not when you are connected to a buyer?
Transfer windows skew activity towards the end of the period. Exceptions to this rule exist, but they always come with a story. Celtic, Brighton or Manchester City are not responsible for how humans react to supply and demand. Complaining about it is like shouting at the wind.

Excited to hear about your trip.
9 Days to go……..
Matt has not left the building
Man City (the richest club in the world) are trying to buy our injured striker for £20m
Reo to Leicester is yesterday’s news
Today CCV is wanted by lots of team who won’t admit they want him
August 31 is a big day……. and breath
He (those) who have left have gone
He (those) that are joining will be in the building
Quick pic with the Kit
Next day Hump the Huns……. and breath

SFTBS @ 1:07 PM,
Yes, he started his transition early…
Pity he went, a real breath of fresh air and a “can do guy”.
We’d really given upon that season by then
Frimpong went in the January, Lenny went in the February and wasn’t replaced…
Hail Hail
I have no issue with last minute deals. So long as they’re CCV and not Laxalt.
All about the contingency planning and this window looks much more promising than the past few under the Lawwells. Brendan requiring smaller numbers of quality rather than a high volume of cheap, punts – most of whom are already leaving having barely played.
I love Kyogo and Matt as much as the next man but if we sell both and replace with 3-4 players of real quality then we’ll be stronger. If not, the Board are playing with fire as they will rightly be seen as hoarding cash at the expense of the team.
BOURNESOUPRECIPE @ 1:11 PM,
Our first team squad is down to 23 now…
Impressive stuff
Hail Hail
I’ll be happier when I hear a Brendan approved CB has been signed- O’Shea or AN Other.
I still think he has treated Nawrocki harshly as I’ve never seen him have a bad game for us but…… I know nothing about his injuries or availability.
Comparing Brighton & Man City, two of the best run football clubs in terms of recruitment in Europe, with our own is quite simply laughable stuff. They are light years ahead of us in terms of future recruitment plans, possibly due to actually having a proper scouting/recruitment set up, with people who know what they’re doing.
We have 8 days left of the window and the manager is still awaiting 4 positions to be filled. And possibly more if any of our current first XI leave in that period.
No need to start panicking though, we are still ‘monitoring’ countless players….

Could be something to do with their budgets of millions.
Totally random question here. Why is there a clown in a Celtic top standing beside Andrew Tate as he is being arrested? God forbid it is his brother.

Yes, busy getting close to his ideals, with others on shoogly pegs.

Dont think so but
Supporters can choose Celtic, but Celtic can’t choose its supporters

And yet these well run clubs are both coming to a Celtic with a shit-recruiting record, to source 2 players?? Go Figure, eh?

Yes, honing “the group” to become an elite.
One of the first things Mr Stein did when he returned through Parkhead’s Gates…

is City model still working ?
£20m for a 29 year old with a problem shoulder, as a back uo to two others, probably with no reselll value, unless he goes to Saudi.
City Group recuritment has not been the same since Mark Lawwell left.

The placemen are out in force; dissembling, disinformation, dissing fhellow posters… we’ve all seen this movie before.
Never a good look when the excuse and expectation management gurus are thick on the ground

Go on name names Chairbhoy and expand this narrative,
Only asking Chairbhoy as we all want the best for Celtic, inventing false narratives when it’s what everyone in a blog does is offer an opinion to be contested, not as above as tho it’s fact.
Dissent properly your generally good at that and debating.keep on keeping on.

More likely they have a professional recruitment model in place.
in other news, the big orange crane is off the ibrox pitch and the decking/terrace steps are in place.
thats the easier construction, lets call it prefab meccano pieces.
now the harder parts, the internal works for electics, plumbing, lifts,
the hordes are celbrating a retunr to their “spiritual home . I think they mean it is handed by the dead rangers.
i find it puzzling that the ceo wouldnt make a statement saying see i told you we willl be back in september end.
that is 5 weeks only,
funny as well to see the really faded, near white seats all stacked up to be reinstalled.

You’re missing the most pertinent point. Both clubs are looking at purchasing one player in the final week of trading, we’re looking to get 4. Forward planning, 2 words missing within our football club.
haunted for goodness sake, those pesky kids.
scoobydoo csc.
Forward planning, 2 words missing within our football club.
untrue.
i could even expect they know now for every position who they want to sign in future windows.

did you miss Brendan saying that the recuritment deparment are working ever so hard but like all things it can be improved ?
alongside the annual report i wish celtic could publish their actual organisation charts, people just make up rubbish about it.
maybe not individual names, but definately the job titles and structure.
nearly 1000 people employed now by Celtic plc.
probably the biggest employer now in the east end.

Brighton have a squad of 39. Atalanta 32.
Brighton had 16 out on loan last season, Atalanta 12, 43 the season before!
Many ways of having a “super well run” (Brendan Rodgers) club like Celtic but for Brighton and Atalanta who are two of the best at operating a successful player trading model, a large squad, use of the loans market and a willingness to always be ready to trade seem to be prerequisites for their strategy
Of course neither have achieved the success Celtic have, Brighton played in Europe for the first time last season and have never won anything.
If Brendan really is in charge of trimming the squad he needs to bear in mind what’s required to compete with the sort of clubs who do better than us. We need to be cleverer and more accurate than ever before with our signings, development becomes even more of a priority.
Otherwise he could quite easily be criticized for running the club like it was 60 years ago, which none of us want.

If you don’t mind me butting in, a well-considered, thoughtful reply
Don’t forget what Brendan also said:
“There’s no doubt here, the club is super well run.
=====
Of course not.
He did indeed say that. He is talking about his employer after all… So it depends how you interpret the major *but* that followed. Taking him at face value then yes as a business we are well run. The club is clearly in a healthy financial position, good commercial contracts, have positions of influence domestically and at a European level to forward the clubs interest, conduct ourselves professionally avoiding the type of cringeworthy knee jerk amateur hour statements that flood out of Ibrox. That’s all good as a business.
But we are a football club as well. Speaking of the halcyon days of CQN, I seem to remember Paul saying a little bit of debt was a good thing for a football club. We are hoarding cash not spending it on assets (neither on stadium improvements nor on players). There’s a difference between not putting the club at risk and not taking any risk at all. Can’t say it’s my level of expertise so happy to be corrected but we appear to be throwing cash away to HMRC. There are 4 key positions at CP. Only the manager could be described as world class. CEO is the Chairman’s understudy. Previous head of recruitment was the Chairman’s son (still out of work for those bookmarking). And he hasn’t been replaced ahead of the incredibly important summer window. Head of youth development has been there since 2008. Is he really producing the results we should be demanding? Can we not look at some of the most forward thinking clubs in Europe and poach some of their talent to these 3 key roles? I’ve got a link to the Brighton CEOs interview the other day but not to hand, seek it out he spoke very well and these are the type of people we should be aiming to have in place.
Our European record should be a source of embarrassment for all but it’s forgotten about by the time the trophies are handed out in May. The consequences will be felt when we’re unprepared for the qualifiers next August should we win the league, and we will be unprepared because ‘January is a hard time to bring in players’ and we won’t do business until the end of August.
It’s unthinkable we don’t sign any players in the next 8 days and we obviously will. The level of ambition we show in those signings is what the CEO will be judged on. We could sign McGowan, Shankland and Porteous and people on here would put a positive slant on it. By all means have faith that they will deliver. But you can’t expect those that seen this movie before to do the same

city want you to go out on loan to celtic.
many moving parts.
A player trading model is a numbers and scale game
Brendan needs to remember this if he’s determined to take control

So we’re not to take a fairly straightforward statement at face value, but we should interpret the rest of his statement in the way you want? Isn’t that a bit hypocritical?
I don’t think playing guess what Brendan means is a very useful exercise if you’re just going to interpret everything in the way you want.
Personally I take everything he says as being strategic – I wouldn’t take anything he says as gospel. He’s a bright man who’s keen to get what he wants to do the job how he wants, which is fine
REGGIE
I apologize for not replying to rest of your post, but we have done all this before haven’t we?
afternoon all.
CITY –
BOUGHT 1
SOLD OR LOANED OUT – 17.
Those 17, shocking forward planning in the past, or just high turnover and often ?
I suppose it is actually hard to be an improvement on what their first team squad already is.
and then Liverpool, still signed no one >
Good luck to killie this evening!
REGGIE @ 3:24 PM,
Excellent
Well best of luck with that.
