Trashing a historic football club in two easy steps

605

I was delighted when Dundee were awarded the vacant place in the SPL in July last year.  They are a club with an outstanding history (check it out here) whose fans have suffered poor performances and downright bad decisions since the finished within a point of Dundee United and Aberdeen, and were relegated from the Premier Division in its first season.

With a latent, considerable-sized supporter base, by any measure they should be a secure SPL club.  Only Celtic, Sevco, Aberdeen, Hearts and Hibs have more fans, although Dundee United may have closed their historical gap.

If Rangers had not been liquidated Dundee would currently be in the First Division, most probably at or near the top.  Barry Smith would be getting ready for a final push for promotion.  Promotion came too soon, they are miles adrift and will be relegated unless Hearts go into administration, suffer a 17 point penalty and make players redundant.

Sacking Smith and appointing John Brown, in political terms, could be described as a brave decision.  ‘Mad’ is another word you could use.  Reports that (suffering) Dundee fans, and shareholders, are in revolt at the appointment, should surprise no one.  John Brown’s very public performances last year marked him out for his communication skills, ability to plan and make considered decisions.  Put him in charge, and you know what you’re getting.

Should we beat them tomorrow, spare a thought for those in dark blue in the corner of the stadium.

  1. celtic fc are hated in many parts of scotland and the uk because of our traditions and determination to hold true to them from the top to the fans. our is not always an easy road but its the right one because its about allowing people to embrace their culture. if you are offended by that then maybe its you that has the issue. what is so offensive about irish music i am far more offended by racist sectarian stuff. i am offended by the continued attacks on working class men and women by rich people. i am more offended by those who think if you are born or live in scotland you must forget where you came from and your families struggles. i am offended that celtic fans are attacked because they dont agree to roll over. once and for all no matter what anyone thinks irish folk songs are only offensive to bigots who hate the fact that people are entilted to celebrate their cultural identity paul have a word with the racists. bar the racists. celtic fans where singing irish folk songs at celtic park long before you and i wgere born. let tge people sing

  5. The Spirit of Arthur Lee it came to mind because when I was nipping round to the Co-op 45 mins ago for a bottle of wine, my friend, who wanted nothing , asked me as I was one foot out the door, the way women do, “Will you just get me a big bag of Revels?”

    No wine?

I now know she had planked a bottle of port.

  6. Saturday night and as last week lselective drivel from folk who don’t have much of a life judging by the amount of time they spend throwing their perspective on the world around on the blog. Sad

Shame Paul felt the need to state the obvious and defend his reasonable position

Even more sad that some will always stand outside and criticise those in power but will never have the guts or ability to take on any real responsibility. Pathetic

Corner boys and loafers I believe is the phrase.

    If you know your history.

  8. MooooonTheHoops kojo expresses his view that black people are different from us.

Perhaps kojo would like to say which race is the thoroughbred and which the plough horse in his analogy, and which characteristics he assigns to each. Thoroughbreds are amongst the thickest animals ever created by man.

“Paki” never used to be a bad word in Glasgow.

  9. Having been party to some, and witness to even more CQN song debates over the years I have to say this is an interesting new development – what songs can we sing on CQN?

My position on the songs remains the same. I defend anyone’s right to sing what they want, when they want to (that includes the huns today btw – they can never upset me by flaunting their ignorance on TV), with the caveat that they should only do it in a place where the repertoire is not at odds with the wishes of their hosts.

In this instance, Paul67 is our host and therefore his wishes should be respected.

Is that really so hard for some people to understand?

  10. Interesting that, following the Sevco songbook rendition today, we forecast the our clubs name would be dragged into it by the MSM ( whataboutery ), and yet tonight’s CQN has done just that. Go figure.

  11. I don’t need to wear a Celtic scarf for people to know I’m a Celtic fan…….

    Wise words BMCUW, wise words.

  12. I can understand having a go at some of the trolls who frequent the blog, but, ffs, we are fighting among ourselfs.

But, I don’t suppose it would be Celtic unless it was all about entrenched opinions.

  14. So the Govan brigade have been caught singing sectarian songs in Berwick?

It must have been more extreme than the suggested 30 seconds or so for espn to give it such air time.

    You watching mr salmond?

    Cos your cabinet secretary isn’t.
