Uefa’s decision yesterday, that if a club cannot visit to play a Champions or Europa League qualification game due to travel restrictions, if must forfeit the tie, will force some harsh planning on Celtic.
Travellers from a specific nation could be prohibited from entering Scotland, while Celtic players could be quarantined if they travel to that country. In this event, Celtic would probably have to base their European squad in a (relatively) safe European country until the ban was lifted or quarantine restrictions expire, or withdraw from the European competition. Neither prospect is appealing.
The problem does not expire after the qualifiers; governments will remain edgy about spikes as they arise for months to come.
The consequences of the crisis for season 2019-20 were almost impossible to imagine as recently as February. It feels optimistic that plans for season 2020-21 will go without a hitch. Contingency plans should note we may need a larger than normal squad. All rivalries aside, this is one season where it would be useful to have our domestic competitors involved in European football as often as we are.

Good mornin’ to all Celtic Supporters here!

Someimes that feels like not very many ! Fans, yes, supporters? Hmm..
Good Morning all
I will be very disappointed, but not entirely surprised, if Eddie leaves. So many variables in the equation: does he want to go; does he have a release clause; can we guarantee a sufficient bonus for him to stay for one more season; etc etc.
So, what steps need to be taken now? Firstly, we need at least one quality left sided central defender, and possibly another left back too. Next, we should aim for another Moussa/Eddie up and coming type from the French school as a hedge against the inevitable departure of Eddie, whether this season or next. Then, and only then, should we be looking at further back up striker options. All imo of course
Hope to get some sun today in Costa del Dundee.
Have a good day y’all.

`Someimes` is for those to lazy to pronounce the `t` in `sometimes.`.

Sevco seemingly paying 6 million for 2 additions,us with all the dosh we have trying to sign a freebie, you really couldn’t make it up ,as for him being better than Bayo ,but as I have said previously ,the end off the season will tell us everything, also who will be still be employed at Celtic Football Club or being chased along London Road .

You do realise (as I’m sure you do) that ‘6 million’ is Sevconomics? 6 million may well pay fees for players, signing on fees, agent fees, salaries, bonuses, win the SPFL, Champions League qualifying bonus, goals bonus, donations to charity (ahem) exchange rates between sterling and euros, paid over this century etc. etc.
Sevco never ‘pay’ for anything; more likely provvie cheques, ginger bottles and IOUs!
I’m delighted with Fletcher. Haunted by Morgan up front, I never want us to repeat that mistake again! Plenty of firepower.
Hope we can get one of Ajeti / Toney in the door and still thinking Griff will be gone.
Friesdorfer,
I predict there will be more sunshine in Dundee than there will be on CQN :-)

If the smart money wants THEM to win in Europe ( or anywhere) , then my money has a very low IQ.

`Reports in Italy claim that Sevilla, Brighton & Hove Albion and Sassuolo have now all been credited with an interest in Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos along with Lille. (Scottish Sun)`
`Reports`;`claim`;`credited` and `interest`.
Some solid stuff there which the BBC site felt was worthwhile repeating on their webpage !

“and with a different regime, we may never have won anything close to 9 in a row,”
Really? I don’t understand this desire to praise the regime and their approach as being somehow the only way to do business or achieve what we have. We have won the league with MON, WGS, NL, RD and BR but without Pedro/the regime at the helm that might not have been possible? Really?
As for 9IAR, Paul spoke of a generation of domination given the overwhelming odds in our favour once Oldco died. One of his latest articles stated that he rated the league as 50/50 last year, why is that? How did we go from a generation of domination to 50/50 in the league against a rookie manager in his 2nd season at a club in its (then) 8th year?
Realistically, was anything but at least 9 or 10 not expected?
First league of 9IAR was during Oldco’s administration, leading to liquidation. The next 4 leagues were at a time when Hearts, Hibs and the new iteration, Sevco, were all absent. You can’t argue that we could have lost those leagues given the 30 years since a team other than us or Oldco has won the league.
Were we supposed to lose the league in the first year Sevco were in the league with the Loaf at the helm? A 5 year old club with an average manager? The next year with Pedro when they lost to the 4th best team from Luxembourg? Then they bring in another rookie in Stevie G, was he supposed to beat us in his first year with a wage bill half of ours?
We have had a monopoly for these years, failure to win the league would be disastrous and representative of a major failing in the running of our club. Winning the league was the bare minimum. That’s why the poor results in Europe I think are a greater barometer of our Master of the Universe’s performance and it’s a bit lacking. Particularly when he is the best paid employee in the history of our club and, in relative terms, probably one of the best paid CEOs in football.
Big Wavy
I hope so but a guy involved in Sports Reporting in Germany says Leverkusen will be minus five regulars. He did qualify that by saying the replacements are of the same standard.
Hot Smoked,
I had Sassuolo in the draw so after months of waiting so I’m pretty chuffed….
Our Rolling Stone gathers no positivity :-)

Hot Smoked @ 09:29 – in a single post you’ve articulated perfectly the death throes of journalism. Respect.

You never turned around to see the frowns
On the jugglers and the clowns
When they all come down and did tricks for you
You never understood that it ain’t no good
You shouldn’t let other people get your kicks for you
You used to ride on a chrome horse with your diplomat
Who carried on his shoulder a Siamese cat
Ain’t it hard when you discovered that
He really wasn’t where it’s at
After he took from you everything he could steal
How does it feel
How does it feel
To be on your own
With no direction home
Like a complete unknown

I’ve never understood the people who look at unprecedented domestic dominance and thought “so what?”
They should maybe find another hobby because they clearly don’t get any joy out of Celtic.
Copenhagen pumped Istanbul Basaksehir last night in the Europa League. Our failure to beat Copenhagen is already looking a bit better.
I’ve seen a few try to discount the result. Saying Istanbul are obviously terrible. Neglecting the fact that they eliminated Sporting Lisbon in the previous round and topped a group with Roma and Borussia Monchengladbach

Bedfellows with Huns, who’ve been doing the ‘so what?’ narrative for years. My favourite Sevco line is where one of our 9IAR doesn’t count becasue they weren’t good enough to get out of the championship.
Nutjobs the lot of them.
Good morning all from sultry Govanhill.

Good Morning Bro.

£6m on 2 strikers for sevco. You believing it is one thing. You then posting it as fact with no evidence is another level. I get that you are not always positive about Celtic but even by your standards that is a ridiculous post.
Pete, we are not certainties but bookies are seldom wrong. HH.
Let’s get things into perspective.
They have signed two players who are not wanted elsewhere for undisclosed fees.
In football parlance that means a small fee and a contract spread over time.
The fees punted by the rags are the same figures put out there for fat boy.
They cannot sign anybody of substance because they do not have the finance.
Hail Hail
Stay Safe

I would doubt that the selling clubs have had a sniff of filthy lucre from the huns.
I suppose we could always play Fletcher on the left hand side of central defence
