SPEED merchant Daizen Maeda has no intention of slowing down with the campaign’s crescendo a couple of months away.
The Japanese ace has thumped in 26 goals as Celtic have claimed the Premier Sports League Cup – with the winger netting the decisive penalty-kick against Rangers in mid-December – while hurtling to the Premiership pinnacle with a 16-point adavantage.
Maeda and his Hoops team-mates will now switch their attention to the Scottish Cup with Sunday’s intriguing quarter-final tie against Hibs at Parkhead coming up fast.
The Bhoy Racer is going into the home straight with his eyes on all three prizes and his dazzling form last month has been recognised with the Premiership Player of the Month for February award.
MAN OF THE MONTH…Daizen Maeda talks to Celtic TV.
Maeda, 27, hit 10 goals in the month, including a hat-trick against Raith Rovers in the previous round of the national competition, and got this month off to a scoring effort with another clinical finish after a searing run in the 5-2 victory over St Mirren in Paisley at the weekend.
Maeda reflected: “The team is doing well and because of that I can score the goals, so I’m really pleased for the team performances.
“It looks like I’ve had my best month, but I’m just continuing to do what I’m used to doing.
“I always try to work hard and try to do my best in each game so all the games were very important for me.”
Looking ahead to the run-in to the crusade, Maeda, speaking to Celtic TV, added: “We still have a chance to win the treble and that’s our aim as a team, so we will try to work hard towards that.”
