Treble talk, farewell Big Mike

2035

Talk of trebles can disappear over the space of 90 minutes, and Ronny Deila will be forced to learn new patter if his team cannot regain the edge which was lost on Wednesday night at Celtic Park.  The challenge will be all the greater for the absence of cup-tied Stuart Armstrong and Gary Mackay-Steven, with others, including Kris Commons and Emilio Izaguirre.

Dundee United have fallen apart in the last few weeks, the departure of Armstrong and Mack-Steven has probably had something to do with this, which means they will be hurting.  Make no mistake, Celtic harmed their season by signing their best two players five weeks ago.  United will have an edge to them.

Just loving the celebrations that one of the world’s richest 400 people no longer controls a Scottish football club.  He still controls pretty much all profitable revenue streams, and holds security over assets, but he’ll no longer be asked to provide loan players, or loan cash.  They have swapped an ‘off the radar’ wealthy man for a glib and shameless liar.

Ashley repulsed many.  He was the archetypal fox let into the Ibrox hen house.  The juxtaposition of Celtic announcing a £29m shirt deal with New Balance, rights Ashley bartered for £1 at Ibrox, gives you an idea of how impaired newco are.  But allowing him to walk off with all those revenue streams, without the responsibility of running football operations, which will always lose money, is inexplicable.

I know people in the game who were concerned about having an opponent with the resources of Ashley.  That blocking SFA decision was crucial.  I don’t know anyone concerned about King, in fact, there is quiet delight at how things transpired.

Farewell Big Mike, thanks for all your work.

…………..A comedy show for kids, with the comedy initially coming from the likes of Leslie Crowther and Ronnie Corbett in the 50′s, and ending with Stu Francis and the Krankies, with gunge and less than subtle gags, all the way up to 1984.

    Now listen here young fella.

If it’s Crackerjack to which you refer, Eamonn Andrews was the original host and Ronnie Corbett was not Crowther’s side kick.

It was a wee guy called Peter Glaze, the well known ham embellishment. Ham being the word.

  2. Weeminger,

If you want to say to deplore support for terrorist groups then that’s fine.

But what you now see in Scotland is a deliberate blurring of the lines. To increase what sectarianism means, to blur what is offensive to include perfectly legal political beliefs.

All done to support scotlands inherent racism. Because scotland is inherently racist.

PL does not have to explain the nuances. All he has to say is why does Scottish society have a problem with Irish republicanism and irishness in general. He could make clear he isn’t talking about terrorism. But in any case it was PL that outlawed Irish republicanism not the media in this. He was of course egged on but he basically said Irish republicanism was wrong. Now he reqlised the error of his ways and tried to fix it via Twitter but by then the media had their prize story all wrapped up.

Gary67 – I really hope we avoid Efe at left back.

Means we play with no threat on that side at all really. Stokes or Henderson will probably play left and they will cut inside. Efe will overlap then cut back as he can’t kick it with his left peg.

    Totally changes the team dynamic.

I’d go with Wakaso. He’ll bomb up and down similar to Izzy. It causes them a problem that Efe wouldn’t.

Were you watching? Efe put in a blinding cross on the run with his LEFT foot against St.J. Only problem was that no one managed to get on the end of a cross that just needed to be nodded in. That’s a separate problem though.

  4. Looking for help folks, was Murray on the board of Rangers 1872 when they went into administration then liquidation, if so how can he the be on any board.

  5. Here’s a thing. I’m sure that the list of proscribed terror groups used to mention the various versions of the IRA. Now it does not.

I’m sure that’s a relatively recent update. While it’s not been done in relation to us. It does make it a whole lot easier for the police to lift you. If not convict you.

I think it would be very hard to argue effectively that BOTOB was about a proscribed terrorist group.

Is that the one which created shockwaves and major consternation in the MSM by Stokesy moving the ball back 6 inches thereby outcheating all of the cheating ever done at Mordor in the history of the world?

That’s the one where Stokes was called a cheat by McCann and Spanner, 3 days later Maloney done the exact same thing for Scotland, and was hailed as intelligent, cute, smart, streetwise etc etc etc

‘In 2002, Dave King was arrested and charged with 11 counts of fraud by South African authorities, allegedly owing the revenue service almost £60 million.

King was eventually indicted on 322 counts including fraud, tax evasion and evasion of exchange control regulations, as well as money-laundering and racketeering.

After a decade of legal process, King reached an agreement with the South African High Court, pleading guilty to 41 counts of criminally contravening South African Income Tax.’

With regard to the events of 29 years ago today I remember the news coverage very well.

The news bulletins were full of gravitas as they reported a successful security forces operation against the three individuals who were clearly terrorists and a threat to public order and safety.

Now, to be clear, I am not going to condone elements of the armed struggle of the eighties nor the tactics employed by many who advocated the “provisional” cause but the news programmes made it clear that the “reporting” line was that this was a victory and that the three should not be, and were not, afforded the normal human rights and protections allowed to any citizen of a civilised country.

When “Death on the Rock” was broadcast a different story was told to that contained in the official version, and among some of the population there was outrage that the British military would just shoot without warning and with the intention to kill.

Most of all, I recall the reaction of The Right Honourable Michael Heseltine MP – Gov’t minister and member of the cabinet — who declared openly that despite the British Government being convicted and fined by a European Court for the unlawful killing of these three people that the fine would never be paid and that the court judgement would be ignored.

Now politicians say things and the press report things and both are stupid and designed to mislead.

The fine was paid very quietly without demur and its payment was never widely broadcast.

And of the five incidents here:

    The killing

    The Reporting of the Killing

    The Decision of the Court

The Heseltine outburst at the conviction and fine

and the payment of the fine on the quiet and the failure to report and comment on it adequately

It is the last matter that chills me to the bone.

No one seriously expects security forces to play by the rules. Dirty Ops, underhand tactics, breaches of human rights, murder, slaughter and mayhem are all the tools of war and armies — that is what happens.

But when a Government minister feels comfortable enough to come out and make proclamations that his Government are above the law and are outwith the grasp of justice and the courts — I expect it to be big news when that minister and his government capitulates, sees sense, accepts the rule of law and like any other guilty party is forced to apologise and recognise its wrong doing.

    But no.

Not on this wee island. Not with this press. Not with Maggie’s Government – who condemned Mandela right up until the day she left office and beyond and who felt secure enough to blatantly have Scargill branded a liar and a madman through the press when his famed list of secret mine closures were absolutely correct.

The same government who had police officers walk into mining towns with no means of identification so that they could carry out what would otherwise be unlawful arrests, detentions and beatings.

29 years ago we lived in the times of one of the most selfish evil regimes ever to prosper on this wee island.

It was not based on grandee one nation toryism but on wannabbee ” we know what is right for you” dictatorship post ballot box and the entire political and news spectrum crumbled before it.

No reporting, feeble opposition and a mass funded PR machine that spouted out brainwashing untruths at every opportunity.

The deaths on the Rock were a key part in showing that the British Establishment, the Mother of Parliaments and the security forces were all seriously out of control and that without an enquiring press the British Public were potentially defenceless against them.

There are deep deep lessons to be learned from those days and my biggest fear is that they are all too easily forgotten and that those who choose to remember are all too easily labelled as extremists and weirdos.

Apologies for the rant but your post awoke the angry young man – the oul codger will now retire and go make a cup of tea!

A nun is sitting with her Mother Superior chatting.

“I used some horrible language this week and feel absolutely terrible about it.”

“When did you use this awful language?” asks the elder.

“Well, I was golfing and hit an incredible drive that looked like it was going to go over 280 yards, but it struck a phone line that was hanging over the fairway and fell straight down to the ground after going only about 100 yards.”

    “Is that when you swore?”

“No, Mother,” says the nun. “After that, a squirrel ran out of the bushes and grabbed my ball in its mouth and began to run away.”

“Is THAT when you swore?” asks the Mother Superior again.

“Well, no. says the nun. You see, as the squirrel was running, an eagle came down out of the sky, grabbed the squirrel in his talons and began to fly away!”

“Is THAT when you swore?” asks the amazed elder nun.

“No, not yet. As the eagle carried the squirrel away in its claws” , it flew near the green and the squirrel dropped my ball.”

“Did you swear THEN?” asked Mother Superior, becoming impatient.

“No, because the ball fell on a big rock, bounced over the sandtrap, rolled onto the green, and stopped about six inches from the hole.”

The two nuns were silent for a moment.

Then Mother Superior sighed and said, “You missed the f—ing putt, didn’t you?”

  18. My friends in Celtic,

Sticking to football, I wonder just what PL was meaning about mitigation to counter the big fish in a small pond issue that we have to combat.

No one questions his credentials. No one questions his credibility.

The internet bampots had to search for a couple of hours before exposing the Motherwell fan with wealth off the radar.

This new saviour’s record is known to everyone.

His tax fraud convictions and previous record at Ibrox are being air brushed into history.
