We learned so much yesterday. For a start, Falkirk are the real deal. They were unable to withstand the Celtic big guns but for 70 minutes of this match they competed at a better standard than any of our previous opponents this season.
It was also refreshing to play a team who were not intent on timewasting at every goal kick and who insisted on playing out from the back. The Premiership will be more competitive if they replace bottom club, Hearts.
Two goals yesterday on top of a peach against Slovan means Adam Idah is on fire right now. Think back five weeks, though, when he lumbered around the park on his first game back against St Mirren. Adam needed match fitness before he could shine.
Auston Trusty has made two starts this season, both for Sheffield United last month. His lumbering around Celtic Park yesterday reminded me of Adam’s at St Mirren. Auston made 28 starts in the EPL last season, a league with no hiding places. He will improve.
Nicolas Kuhn picked up the Man of the Match award for his 30-minute cameo, during which he scored two and assisted with two. Earlier in the game, you got the feeling the crowd would have been happy to give the award jointly to Greg Taylor and Liam Scales, as a token of appreciation for two players, whose absences were very evident.
The semi-final draw was not kind, pitching the top two clubs in the country against each other. We will face Aberdeen twice in two weeks, first in the league, then in the semi. Both games are in Glasgow, which is very welcome.
Celtic will have fatigue from European games during this period, while Aberdeen will enjoy more rest and time for proper training sessions. We will know more about the balance of power in Scotland after these encounters.

It seemed odd at the time but their opening goal should have been chalked off.
We really missed Kyogo and Maeda pressing. That allowed them to play and flattered them.
Greg Taylor is an outstanding player. Scales has grown a lot this past year. Kuhn is really sharp.
Idah was quiet for first hour bordering on poor but is a great finisher especially in 2nd half.

Watching the highlights of yesterday’s game, I too can’t understand how VAR did not rule out Falkirk’s first goal. The Celtic player was clearly held back.
Nonetheless. I still think Falkirk are the best team we have faced this season. They made for an entertaining game by their approach, so so different from much we have to contend with.

Having quiered their goals, in the interest of balance, I thought Khun could have been penalised for a handball at our 3rd also though it was accidental if it even was handball (not seen a replay).
Doubt Dallas would miss it in VAR review so perhaps it was not a foul or not within scope of VAR review.

I stupidly assumed that Falkirk’s first goal would be looked at by Var and as a result chopped off. The fact that neither of the commentators even chose to mention the blatant foul quickly removed that assumption.
There was a definite foul in the lead up but our wonderful Var team chose to ignore it, why was I surprised?
Another example of how poor we have it in Scotland when it comes to officials. I was really surprised Adam’s first stood as I assumed the squigley line would be brought out….

It was a clear foul on Valle, but the broke broke into no mans land and the reactions from Hatate and Trusty were far too slow.
Enjoyed the game yesterday despite the changes and the uncertainty of our defensive play understandable with all those changes. Falkirk didn’t disappoint and gave us areal contest.
The changes worked and not for the first time Adam’s brace came at a crucial period in the game and previous to scoring the Corkman did well keeping possession in some tight situations with his physicality and laying off to teamates. Kuhn’s introduction provided the ammunition for the goal chances as well as getting on the scoresheet himself.

A fully fit skilled big man would be a genuine candidate.
But I’m not sure Adam is fully fit yet
… plus how much work can we have done on longer ball exits from defence for Adam to hold up?

I don’t think anyone plays the inverted role better than Greg Taylor, love the wee mhan. He is always available and works his socks off every game. I was a big doubter of Liam Scales, but man he is playing brilliantly and coming up with the goals. Kuhn is exciting to watch and I think Palma’s days maybe numbered. Paolo’s goal yesterday was a thing of beauty. From the pass, to the cushioned header lay off, to the eyes on the ball finish. If that was in the EPL, expensive pishy League, they would have been raving all about it for days. Fair play to Falkirk. They came and went at us and pressured us farther up the park than anyone has this season. Would love to see them and Ayr up in our league with Hearts and Kilmarnock gone, and the Huns:))))

My opinion on the strikers,is that both are excellent,in different ways.Kyogo is a demon for defenders with his movement,pace,and closing down.Misses a few,but continually scores.Idah,big,strong,quick,with some lovely footwork,and very good finisher.
Lucky to have both.
Not before time Greg Taylor getting many plaudits.I have championed this guy right from the start.So important,and he has embraced the”Inverted” full back role,like a Duck to water.Calmacs second in command.
Get the contract sorted Celtic.
Many pieces clicking together in this team.
I think they will surprise many.
Kyogo & Idah are polar opposites, we need both.
Kyogo does miss more than he scores & Idah is a big ungainly operator, at the end of Season it’s about the goals they score, I am confident neither will let us down,
Trustey, Valle, Ralston, Walsh were all poor, CalMac, Hatate & Forrest were far from their best & Palma was really bad, are all those players rubbish ?, no, they’re not, the problem was not the individual players it was the fact that they were not used to playing together and that caused uncertainty & panic.
The only player I’m losing patience with is Palma, I would also be a bit concerned whether Valle has the physicality to play left full in Scotland.
Kuhn was pure brilliant when he came on and single handedly changed the game.
I am certain we will not see a rerun of yesterday’s experiment for the remainder of the Season.
I know not everyone will feel much sorrow for them across the city right now but wheeling our old John Gilligan (who looked like an old grandad dressed up in a badly fitting suit from the George range at Asda and given a new shirt with a collar that was too big) and then letting him talk about chasing Celtic and how Dave King should behave like a good Ranjurs man and shareholder. And how these investors would be putting in more of their own funds to keep it all afloat.
It’s really quite sad. And also very funny. All done with a level of unsurpassed dignity 😂

For me the CL game v Leipzig is a huge opportunity. They play at Dortmund now at exactly same time as we play the dons.

Either way it’s going to be quite a 6 days. Dundee home on Wed then Aberdeen and then Leipzig home on the Tuesday.
Heard the Falkirk captain get interviewed on Thursday or Friday and he was saying he had worked under him before and he’s a completely different manager after working with BR.
He couldn’t speak highly enough of JMcG – though did say his video sessions could be lengthy. A BR feature?

Enjoyed reading Davie Hay talking to Alex Gordon in the CQN feature.
Davie says, and of course we were all aware, that there was a sizeable minority who had set their minds against him and were heavy and disparaging in their condemnation – “Brendan Rodgers was only too aware of the ill-feeling that still existed among a disgruntled element of the support.”
He displayed no fear in coming back to Celtic. He is a rich and confident man who has total belief in his managerial abilities – he would not have risked his hard-won reputation otherwise.
Our manager is a pragmatist. We saw that writ large on Sunday when having changed the starters dramatically; he had no compunction in changing again after seventy minutes when he saw things were not working out as planned. Pragmatism is a rare attribute in modern football managers.
I have a hunch that there was another reason that persuaded Brendan to return to Celtic, although I have no hard evidence to back it up. Did Desmond offer him an opportunity to be part in the fabric of the club going forward – direct input not only to the football side but also a role in the running and direction of the club when the time comes?
Brendan is a top-class football man and we are lucky and happy to have him at Celtic.

There’s a difference between saying this player or that didn’t have a great game and… ‘this player or that is a complete duffer’.
Most comments correctly observed that a few didn’t have that great a game.
Alas, some of the players are not excelling when given a chance and not having such a great game a wee bit too often.

The co commentator on the radio yesterday – Stephen mcginn? – was saying how some players lift their game to say they are a first team player but some show themselves to be a “second team” player.

Judging some players after the one game with so many changes is harsh however there are some who have shown before that they are not first team players.
We need players who aren’t first team picks, but we need them to be challenging the first team players – or at the very least be confident in them coming on in times of need.
Im sure Rodgers will have a better idea after yesterday who is going to provide that competition and who is not.
