TRUSTY D-DAY

CELTIC will learn today if they have been successful in their plea to have Auston Trusty’s red card rescinded following his dismissal in the 2-1 Premiership loss to Hibs at Parkhead on Sunday.

The club decided to lodge an appeal after the USA international centre-back was sent off in the 74th minute following a VAR intervention.

Trusty tussled with opponent Jamie McGrath as they lined up for a right-wing corner-kick.

The Edinburgh club’s midfielder clearly is attempting to get a hold of the Hoops defender who tries to break away. It was later revealed his action was seen as “violent conduct”.

SEEING RED…Auston Trusty heads for the tunnel after his sending-off against Hibs.

Hoops boss Martin O’Neill admitted referee Matthew MacDermid had told him he was going to have a word with both players.

However, Grant Irvine in the VAR control room summoned the match official to review the incident on the touchline screens.

MacDermid returned to the pitch to issue a red card for the stunned Celt.

The club released a statement on X that read: “Celtic FC can confirm that we will be submitting an appeal to the SFA in relation to the red imposed on Auston Trusty during yesterday’s match.

“The Club believes that the player was wrongfully dismissed and that the decision was reached following VAR intervention.”

The SFA will hold a fast-track hearing today where the champions will learn the player’s fate.

If the Hoops fail in the appeal, Trusty, who was ordered off in the 2-2 draw with Hearts at Tynecastle last month following another VAR intervention, faces an automatic two-game suspension.

That would rule the 27-year-old international out of Sunday’s trip to Ibrox and the match against Aberdeen at Pittodrie three days later.

As an additional punishment, Trusty could also be sidelined for the match against Motherwell at Parkhead on Saturday March 14.
