AUSTON TRUSTY will almost certainly return to Celtic’s central defence for Sunday’s Scottish Cup quarter-final encounter at Ibrox.
The USA international is NOT banned from the Cup competition after sitting out the champions’ 2-2 draw at the same venue on Sunday and the 2-1 win over Aberdeen at Pittodrie last night.
Trusty will also be sidelined for the Premiership confrontation with rejuvenated Motherwell at Parkhead a week on Saturday to complete his three-game suspension that applied only to league matches.
BACK ON THE BALL…Auston Trusty is poised for a return at Ibrox.
The centre-back will be clear to face Danny Rohl’s side and it is odds on Martin O’Neill will select him to play alongside Liam Scales in Govan.
Dane Murray deputised in the Premiership stalemate in Govan, but sustained a thigh injury in the warm-up for the match in the north east where Benjamin Nygren netted his 19th goal of the season to push the champions just five points adrift of Hearts with nine games to play.
Benjamin Arthur, on loan from Brentford, stepped in to perform well against the Dons.
With Murray a doubt, the youngster is likely to get a place on the substitutes’ bench at Ibrox with Trusty reinstated to the first team.
Trusty was hit with the extended ban after being red-carded against Hearts (2-2) and Hibs (1-2).
