Trusty in possession.

Reading Auston Trusty talk about his performance against Atalanta last season was illuminating.  Having played for bottom of the table Sheffield United in the EPL season 2023-24, he was adjusted to defending deep every week of the season.  Season 2022-23 was spent with Birmingham, who finished 17th in the Championship.  Celtic’s more natural game, where central defenders play high up the field and have lots more possession, would have been alien to the default style the player arrived with.

We got the breaks against Atalanta but it required a super-human effort by Auston, Liam Scales, Alex Valle and Alistair Johnston to get to the end of the game without conceding.  Even if Auston was ready to hit the ground as a back-to-the-wall defender, there was a requirement to develop his other (potential) talents.

There will be more back-to-the-wall games in Europe this season but we should look for growth in Auston in possession.

Spot on. Not sure anyone ever set the record straight on a posters style with a bit of Voltaire on CQN before !

I am sure you enjoyed the young Scot’s lads performance in the Tour last few weeks. Awesome for a 22 year old. 4th in overall classification.

“Do you know my wee secret is?

    Facts….

    I say they’re no losses…. FACT”.

You are indeed 100% correct, there are no realised losses.

It’s a bit like if you buy shares and they half in value but you’re still able to convince yourself they’re worth what you paid because you still hold them 👍

Could any if you guys on here , explain to me , how someone with 34.7 % share in the club, controls the club.

From interviewing and appointing managers to authorising amount that we spend on transfers.

    ————–

there is long winded explanation around company law about what constitues being a pricipal shareholder without outright ownership – 50%+.

Simply the prIncipal has authority to have representation on the board, can propose strategy and executive appointments, call meetings, and ask for changes. With strategy comes budgeting/spening/delegation of authrority and maybe signing off the largest expenses.

That the other 40% SIGNIFICANT SHAREHOLDERS support him means he gets his way, as Bobby says, with his placements doing his bidding he can set the targets and renumeration as he sees fit.

He will not waiver from what he sees as good execution in 17 years from 20.

But there is another dynamic, those 2 categories adds up to 75%, what off the other 13,000 shareholders who collectively own circa 25%.

Those who bought the fergus first issue. Well many have passed on, many just wanted the cerificate for the frame, others move and dont keep the register up to date. Some attempt via the Celtic Trust to have a voice, but it hasnt even made 55 influeunce yet.

So for DD, having near 35% of the 75% voting shares that are getting used, does in fact make him the near defacto owner.

Only real fan co-ordination would effect a change.

But the reality is it never will, raising res12 was an incredible burden. Gettin 100 names for the ref amendment worse.

Those Celtic supporters on the blogs and phone ins ranting and raving, THEY ARE IMPOTANT.

This silly season is a hoot.

The stories about potential targets just vomit the same old phrases and hope you dont smell it.

I literally just burst out laughing a moment ao reading one

    (More fool me)

“Refusing to budge on their valuation”

    “Highly rated”

(used 100% of the time. Never clarifies by who of course. Probably his agent)

“Would be an ideal fit for Celtic”

    And my personal favourite …

the summary of [INSERT NAME]’s attributes.

“He’s quick, has two good feet, reads the game well, can pass, shoot and play off either wing or through the middle”

Young Maestro had the workhorse, ball winning, pocket battleship, unstoppable dynamo, Murdo MacLeod, playing next to him, that was some load removed from young Maestros work load.

Murdo went to Dortmund in 1987, came back to Celtic in 1997, and in that 10 year gap, Celtic midfield were bullied off the pitch, apart from 1988 were as Gerry McNee said:

“Celtic’s magnificent 100th year centenary double trophy success, was down to divine intervention. I am utterly convinced of that. Someone up there in the heavens has heard all of the prayers that are said for Celtic, and smiled down onto this fairytale club, as Mr McNeill correctly called them, and duly blessed everyone of a Celtic persuasion in their grand season of great history. And if that is not the case, how do you explain the 9 years that followed it?”

Gerry McNee, the only Celtic Historian who didn’t get his ear bent to show certain people up in a dishonest light.

Integrity was a real thing in those days.

  10. Good Morning Celts – Grand Day To Be A Tim

The Blogger Formerly Known As GM @ 9:15 pm,

If you had been checking the prices you would see quite clearly there had been no significant reduction in those players value.

If you buy shares, if you are smart, you create a portfolio.

You have a basket of shares and you take the overall portfolio value.

Using football transfers as revenue, is a business strategy not a football tactic.

The value of a footballer and the value of a share is a significantly different thing.

The players contribute as footballers to the club, winning competitions, winning UCL games etc that generates income and are recompensed accordingly.

They can also generate additional revenue, like Idah advertising Adidas, Club merch, Club interest in Ireland generally and Cork in particular.

Accountants can see the players price but fail to see the overall contribution and complete value – maslow’s hammer.

    The players BR&CO brought in…

    Kuhn – 3 mn

    Schmeichel – Free

    Sinisalo- 1 mn

    Bernardo – 3.5 mn

    Idah – 8.5 mn

    Trusty – 6 mn

    Engels – 11 mn

    McCowan – 1 mn

    Jota – 9 mn

    Doohan – Free

    Tierney – Free

    Osmand – Free

    Nygren – £2M

    Inamura – £250K

    Yamada – £1.5M

That’s 45 mn in player signing and 65 mn in player value.

So no losses and the only player we have sold up til now – Nic Kuhn went for 17 mn over five times his purchase price.

    So

    Remind me again, is Voltaire…

    The thinking freemason’s philosopher?

So we let kjogo, khun and Taylor go without replacements but we can’t let Tillio go?

What on earth is going on at Celtic Park and who is making these decisions?

Maeda is even more important now than he was 4 or 5 months ago, the thought of him getting an injury in the next few weeks doesn’t bare thinking about.

    Have faith say you all!!

Our only match fit front three for the season start are Maeda, Jamesie and Adam. An injury to any of them and we’ll be starting with Yang. Great job Celtic.

    BognorBhoy – yip.

    Genuinely poignant.

10 years has passed (in the blink of an eye)

Some great posters sadly no longer with us.

A smaller subgroup of which are those who do not post as frequently on CQN as they did previously.

The blog got a bit snarly a couple of years back, around the time we were struggling for form and squad stability

    (Coincidence perhaps? / perhaps not?)

It has settled down big time since.

On that period – I never tire of repeating this

Brendan Rodgers deserves huge credit for his leadership and crisis management approach across January to May 2024.

Reduced the squad to a trusted core, got them focused and tactically aligned and, against a backdrop of huge negativity and genuine jeopardy, …. brought home a double.

The un-handsome outfit thought they had us.

    Whoops.

Thats incorrect, it goes against everything they are told in their training.

Just on that smaller subgroup of which are those who do not post as frequently on CQN as they did previously …

I popped over to browse Sentinelcelts last night for, perhaps, the first time in a month.

BMCUW ran with a terrific leader on FSR.

Auldheid contributed with a speculative, but really well though out, opinion piece on Celtic’s strategy for FSR.

I say “speculative” only because there are few verifiable facts available.

    Very enjoyable both.

If either gent could be persuaded to post these on here? …IMHO, it would further enhance and enrich what is already a great blog.

It doesn’t exceed his share if his proxy’s are included.

    —-

I’m not sure what you’re talking about here, Burnley.

Sean does indeed use proxy votes at the AGM because he doesn’t attend but no other share holder gives Desmond their voting rights.

When Ross casts his dad’s proxy votes, it’s 34% of the share base. That’s it.

I didn’t realise that in the event of a draw , third place would be decided via penalties . I was actually hotfooting it to the pub while penalties were in progress .

Having said that , I should have known better than to trust Celtic to get it’s reporting correct LOL

  21. CHAIRBHOY

After yesterday masterclass on “the strategy” and how much more of a champion you are of it than the rest of us now, can we look forward to something similar on other parts of the business?

  22. Did anyone imagine with 4 days to go until our first competitive game, that Marco Tillio would be a necessity for our 1st team squad?..But hey, never mind, two weeks to go before we name our Qualifier squad,I am sure he won’t feature in that,as we are still working feverishly away behind the scenes,Abacus in hand, trying to ,lowball clubs for their players.

Some on here think thats a good thing. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
