Tumbleweed from Carter Ruck emboldens journos

News that Rangers FC Group Ltd had settled a dispute with solicitors Fyfe Ireland ahead of a hearing scheduled for tomorrow brought another legal matter to the fore today.  BBC lawyers have been on red alert since last month when a spokesman for Rangers owner, Craig Whyte, said he “has instructed his lawyers, Carter Ruck, to commence immediate legal proceedings against the BBC” following the BBC Scotland Investigates documentary, Rangers: The Inside Story.

However, I hear nothing has been received from Carter Ruck, or any other lawyers, in connection with claims made in the documentary, much to the disappointment of some, who hoped for swift and meaningful action to settle the allegations, and others, who were keen to see the issue play out in court.  As a result, a couple of jounros I’ve spoken to feel emboldened on this subject….

  1. Neil canamalar Lennon hunskelper extrordinaire on

Wilson is still the best defender at Celtic park, if he get crippled every time he plays then that normally would be a step for a hint, but not on here it seems. favorites eh who can explian it.

    yep…u got it.

wilson constantly injured. out of contract

cha…hmmm prone to too many errors. still a year to run i though.

matthews and lustig are our 2 right backs.

  3. If we cash in on Mathews and Izzy then Pete’s bonus should look good this year.

If we are a club with footballing ambition then he won’t get one.

My money’s on the first but. Hope I’m wrong.l

  4. Doesn’t seem likely that Lustig would be signed without a plan for a player to leave. I’d say the most likely is Cha to go in January. Can’t see Matthews being sold (and certainly hope not), and think NL rates Wilson’s versatility.

Really embarrassed frankly by all these people wishing Mark Wilson away. A true Celtic man who was tremendous for us is a rather abysmal season last year. Terribly blighted by injuries but hardly the first player I’d run out the door.

    ………………

His knees are shot and his best pal at CP is the Physio.

I’d say he be better retiring so he can still walk in 20 years.

  6. Welcome Big man, hopefully you can plug a hole.

    A back four of:

    Lustig, Majstorovic, Rogne, Izzaguirre

in January looks good to me.

Mathews and Blackman as cover is also appealing and we have Kelvin Wilson and Charlie Mulgrew for cover.

Things are looking up and this boy is a winner. He knows how to win leagues.

    Good age

International player in a decent side (I know Dan is too but he is in no way as bad as some people think.

Good resale value with a 3 and a half year deal.

    Very good business

  7. Whyte will be more worried that Carter Ruck might actually win this case, as they are presumably acting on no win-no fee basis!

If he won any case he’d actually have to pay them …… Then has the worry what the level of damages were… If a sum of say …. Maybe One Pound… Was set as the compo, Mr Whyte might be in deep doo doo having to find the cash to pay his legal bill.

However best case would be BBC vindicated, he loses, remaining reputation trashed, but Messrs Carter Ruck left to pick up pieces…. Bit like what someone not unrelated might be planning to inflict on Her Maj’s tax collectors

  8. Caesar

Sentiment does not exist in the modern game.

Wilson is a good Celtic man but as a player his time on the treatment table is damning.

Mathews is already a better option in this position.

  9. Guys..

Agree re a good business move, but don’t think your central defensive partnership will be NL’s 1st choice: Kelvin and Mulgrew I think.

  11. The Battered Bunnet on

    According to Lustig’s Wiki page:

Since breaking into the first team at Rosenborg Lustig has attracted a lot of interest from other European clubs, such as SPL side Celtic, English Premier League club Fulham and La Liga side Espanyol. [2] On the 23rd November 2011, it was announced that he would be joining Celtic on a 3 and a half year deal as of 1/1/12 after singing a pre-contract agreement with the club.[3] Upon agreeing a contract with the Scottish giants, Lustig stated he couldn’t wait to play alongside big Dan and get it right up the monkeys.

Quick question on real radio last night,Derek Johnstone claimed that HMRC had lost 2 similar cases recently as the one they are pursoring against Rangers. As this is the site for facts is there any of you bhoys aware of these cases.

Good luck to the hoops tonight and welcome the new Bhoy.

    “Mathews/Lustig–Wilson–Rogne–Izzy/Blackman

Imagine that staying together for 5 or 6 years?”

A back 4 that stayed together for 5 or 6 games would be progress!!

and dont forget as someone mentioned earlier

lustig meets our boards requirement for signing….free.

Although the droll nature of that post made me smile, it also made me think of how often we judge using certain criteria rather than the evidence of our own eyes ie English Leagues, Italian Leagues etc = good; big transfer fee = good. Bosman/free =bad; Scottish player= bad.

    Snake,

I agree that things are looking up but I would go with:

    Matthews,Wilson (K) mulgrew,Izzi

As regards this: (I know Dan is too but he is in no way as bad as some people think.) He IS as bad as I think!!!

    JJ

  15. I hope we don’t get rid of Matthews – I like him a lot for a young guy – able to play both full-back positions etc.

He strengthens the squad only if we keep our better players, not if he replaces one of them.

  16. Kojo,

Completely agree with your comments regarding Scott and his agent.

Time for him to man up, grow a set etc.. Sack the agent … Or tell us he really wants to leave.

Bit of a cowardly modus operandi hiding behind your agent, but all too common in football

  17. Team for tonight

  18. The Scott Brown dilema.

We paid 4.4 mill for him 4 years ago, and if we have paid him say 16k per week this ammounts to 7.7 mill. which is 37k per week.

No matter how good or bad he is, he has no been worth 37k per week imo.

Sell him in january for what we can get.

Welcome Mikael, may your time at Celtic be fruitfull.

Young Adam for the ofskie me thinks, would rather keep but bonuses need paid.

Irrelevant to the orcs case, but likely where BFDJ got his crud from

    HMRC’s case ‘far from watertight’

According to the accountancy firm, many of the HMRC demands for payment are just ‘hot air’, as Steve Theaker, partner at UHY Hacker Young’s Abergavenny office commented:

“Several of the letters I have seen are wildly inaccurate estimates of the amounts of tax actually in dispute. HMRC could at least get the numbers right.

HMRC has litigated twice on the taxability of loans from EBTs and lost on both occasions. The courts have essentially ruled that EBTs were a legitimate form of tax planning prior to HMRC’s announcement last December. HMRC seems to be pinning its hopes on judges reversing the precedent which has already been set – but why would they do that?”

Remember, the orcs aren’t being taken on the basis that EBTs were illegal – the two cases are very recent and were based on new legislation whereas the orcs one has been in the offing since last year (2010) and revolves around contractually obligated remuneration via the EBT, i.e. EBTs were not illegal as long as they were operated correctly; the orcs EBT was not operated correctly.

  20. Matthews is a good player, but what on earth has he done that would see him leave for mega bucks in January?

He’ll be staying. Wilson and Cha to take a back seat, hopefully.

  21. JJ

All BFDJ has to do is name the cases in question.

    Bet he can’t :-)

  23. Kojo,

Even better, sign the player up and pay the agents fee’s, then sell the player on in Jan or summer.

Everyone will be happy, player will get his move/big wage, agent will get his money and we’ll get a transfer fee for him.

If only life was so simple.

  26. Doesn’t matter who they are. Just like Boruc and McGeady last year, some have got to go to ensure that this year’s figures are in the black.

Winning leagues and cups must always come second to balanced books.
