Turmoil in Zenit squad

365

There’s turmoil in the Zenit St Petersburg squad. Two players, striker Artem Dzyuba and midfielder Oleg Shatov, are in conflict with the club and will not travel to their winter training camp in Dubai.

Both players are current Russia internationals; Dzyuba scored eight goals in the Euro 2016 qualifiers, making him the country’s top scorer in the tournament. Zenit face Copenhagen in Dubai on Monday, the first of six friendly games, before they face their first competitive game of 2018, in Glasgow, four weeks tomorrow. Their last game was on 11 December.

Some poor Celtic scout will be charged with taking in Zenit’s three games in Dubai next week. It is a thankless job.

SSE Live Awards 2017

I know you enjoyed that week in May as much as I did, when we won the treble then celebrated the Lion’s 50th anniversary.  The SSE currently has an online poll looking for their top event of 2017.  You can go here and vote for ‘Celebrate 67 Live’.

Get it done.

NEW CQN PODCAST OUT NOW FEATURING TOMMY SHERIDAN

A Celtic State of Mind presents its 30th instalment of insightful discussion around the culture of Celtic Football Club, the city of Glasgow, and fans of the reigning treble-winning Scottish champions.

Kevin Graham is joined by Scotty Alcroft to interview Scottish pro-independence politician, Tommy Sheridan, at The Penalty Spot in Glasgow.

The interview took place as part of A Celtic State of Mind’s first live event – Five-a-sides at The Penalty Spot – and, as such, there is some background noise (including mobile interference – apologies) from the audience.

The other voice you may hear throughout this episode is that of former Celtic striker, Frank McGarvey, who is a friend of Tommy’s, and who was also interviewed separately that day for a future show.

You are sure to enjoy Tommy’s eclectic input, as he discusses everything from Catalan independence to Coolio, with a constant undercurrent of that thing called Celtic.

  1. FFS. Marvin injured out for 3 or 4 weeks before a ball is kicked, how often does that kind of thing happen to us.

Big Jimmy, Mags/Celterella can be a bit trying and I’m not a great fan of his humour but I am assured by those that know him that he is a great guy and a great Tim.

If Oldtim can be match fit for the Zenit game so should Tam Rogic and Paddy. Hell he’s 20 years older then them!

  5. With no particular poster or posts in mind.

So it doesn’t matter what you post on here or who you antagonize, as long as people know you and can vouch for you.

Now try and tell me there is no clique.

  6. So the day after Erik (26) is booted out on loan it’s announced that his 32 year old replacement who has barely played in a year has done his calf and won’t be available for a month. What did we give Marvin was it a 2 and a half year deal

    P.S.

Due to a poor take up by SB Holders for the overpriced Zenit game.

Today’s Leader is about the General Sale of tickets for the game and an attempt to create some kind of an interest. Especially given the tactically inept CL campaign.

  8. In the early stages, a poster or two voiced the opinion that Celtic were not as good now ( Nov/Dec) as they had been last season. A few more agreed and before very long at all it had become a fact.

I disagreed with the assessment that we were not playing so well. I think I may have been a lone voice. I am pleased to see that at least one person agrees with me.

” Rodgers added that he says he knows Celtic are better than they were this time last year despite having fewer points.

He is adamant the team has improved on last season and were better in games and training in the winter break in Dubai this time around then they were last year.”

I don`t believe he posts on CQN but his opinion is likely to have supporting evidence.

  9. I wonder when during the trip to Dubai Marvin got injured. I am speculating here but I would imagine there was a lot of work done of shape and tactics during the time away.

I would also imagine that a lot of his work would have been done with Marvin at the heart of it (unless of course the injury happened quite early on). Now he is injured that could potentially put all that work at risk??

I would be delighted to get Steven Caulker in (there is obvious risks around his mental state etc) but a low basic pay with play associated bonus deal similar to what Craig Gordon took would be the perfect scenario.

A Caulker playing the way he did under Brendan at Swansea would be one hell of asset to our team.

Not a guarantee of course but then what transfer ever is?

If you care to check out the number of games Marvin has played over the last say 4 seasons you ill see that he has been frequently injured over the period he has difficulty staying fit.Another interesting point at Celtic is the number of players we have that over say the last 2 seasons that have suffered from calf injuries. H.H.

  13. talkin about horseracing, once had a delivery to newbury, got stuck on the A34 on the way back ,ended up going through marlborough and swindon, ended up at cheltenham. then back on the motorway what a ride that was.hh.

  16. Just spotted the Chuckle Brothers, Reagan and Doncaster, sitting together in The Soho Hotel,London. They looked very shifty (I know) and were joined by another chap who seemed to be interviewing them, journalist perhaps. Was tempted to approach them and explain the definition of liquidation. Resisted it, kept my dignity!

“It’s unfortunate that Marvin has picked up an injury, he has settled into the squad well, and would be the ideal

partner to accompany Jozo in the treatment room. We haven’t really had anyone to fill that role since Derk Boerrigter left.”

    …..Brendan Rodgers.
