Turmoil in Zenit squad

365

There’s turmoil in the Zenit St Petersburg squad. Two players, striker Artem Dzyuba and midfielder Oleg Shatov, are in conflict with the club and will not travel to their winter training camp in Dubai.

Both players are current Russia internationals; Dzyuba scored eight goals in the Euro 2016 qualifiers, making him the country’s top scorer in the tournament. Zenit face Copenhagen in Dubai on Monday, the first of six friendly games, before they face their first competitive game of 2018, in Glasgow, four weeks tomorrow. Their last game was on 11 December.

Some poor Celtic scout will be charged with taking in Zenit’s three games in Dubai next week. It is a thankless job.

SSE Live Awards 2017

I know you enjoyed that week in May as much as I did, when we won the treble then celebrated the Lion’s 50th anniversary.  The SSE currently has an online poll looking for their top event of 2017.  You can go here and vote for ‘Celebrate 67 Live’.

Get it done.

NEW CQN PODCAST OUT NOW FEATURING TOMMY SHERIDAN

A Celtic State of Mind presents its 30th instalment of insightful discussion around the culture of Celtic Football Club, the city of Glasgow, and fans of the reigning treble-winning Scottish champions.

Kevin Graham is joined by Scotty Alcroft to interview Scottish pro-independence politician, Tommy Sheridan, at The Penalty Spot in Glasgow.

The interview took place as part of A Celtic State of Mind’s first live event – Five-a-sides at The Penalty Spot – and, as such, there is some background noise (including mobile interference – apologies) from the audience.

The other voice you may hear throughout this episode is that of former Celtic striker, Frank McGarvey, who is a friend of Tommy’s, and who was also interviewed separately that day for a future show.

You are sure to enjoy Tommy’s eclectic input, as he discusses everything from Catalan independence to Coolio, with a constant undercurrent of that thing called Celtic.

Just herd it moooted that Compper is out with a calf injury ,suppose it gives BR more time to shoe horn him into the team to see what he cud do ,then again maybe he,s just milking the publicity .

  2. If Theo Walcott is worth £20M its another reminder of the difficult position we find ourselves in

    during the transfer windows

Scott Sinclair at £3M was an absolute steal and potentially it makes Stuart Armstrong worth more

than the figures mentioned by MSM.

Celtic need to dig in and demand top dollar, if we decide to sell from a six time champions squad.

I thought December would be a tough month for the bhoys as the amount of games we had up to the end of the year would IMO catch up with us .

I am glad we got through the year with one defeat ,too many draws though ,at CP in particular .

I expect that to be addressed in the 2nd part of the season and the bhoys to push on and put more light between us and the rest .

Looking forward to the games starting with sat

  6. I read with no little despair the quotes from Brendan on the BBC website.

Having clearly stated he needs central defenders he now says he is fine (even with the injury). There then follows what I can only describe as pedroesque nonsense.

Meanwhile as another poster has pointed out the new media tactic is for the media to find ways to try and depress incoming transfer fees for Celtic while, completely bizarrely they roll out Huns like Ian McCall to say transfer fees for the Huns should be halved (when they want to buy).

Meanwhile paul67 trots out more squirrels whilst simultaneously ignoring what has frankly been an appalling transfer window for Celtic thus far. Rudderless and directionless (unless of course you only care about money). A combination of a lack of u coming transfer activity and injuries combing th further weaken Celtic.

Whilst of course avoiding talk of outrageous ticket prices for the Europa game.

Money money money mixed with corruption lies and propaganda.

    What’s not to like eh?

Did we receive a fee for Liam or was he out of contract?

  9. We now have 23 outfield players on first team squad of which 5 are currently on injured list.

The remaining 18 include the seldom played Miller & Gamboa.

Effectively leaving 16 players vying for 10 starting slots plus 4 /5 on the bench.

Hope we don’t pick up any more injuries.

  10. Why is everyone worried about this Carillion thing? Liquidation is no big deal. There’s no appetite for all this attention on it. People should stop taking over the coals and move on.

Once the carillion holding company vehicle has been dealt with and a small fine paid I’m sure everyone gets to keek their jobs and the ever lasting carillion continue with an uninterrupted history.

    Easy.

Thanks for that. I couldn’t see any mention of a fee on any of the Newsnow articles.

Disappointed to lose such a promising youngster who has come through our development system,

but I would be even more disappointed to think we were losing him for nothing.

  16. I hate to see any player leave Celtic bar a few exceptions.

I know we’d end up with a squad of 376 or so and a wage bill of £450 million a year.

    That’s probably why I don’t have Peter Lawwell’s job.

  17. Guyfawkesaforeverhero @ 6.03

    Neganon @ 7.00

I would not say I am as down about this month as you guys are but as I said yesterday in agreement with Gordybhoy64 I am somewhat underwhelmed with this ‘window’ to date. Signing a centre back approaching the twilight of his career ( sorry for the cliche) who will not be eligible for what remains of our European campaign seemed a bit lacklustre to me even before he got injured though hopefully when he is fit he will be good. There is a fortnight to go of this month so maybe there will be more arrivals.

I know from reading other things on the web that signing a ‘crock’ centre back is apparently par for the course for Celtic but between the days we signed McCarthy, Elliott, Gillespie & Mowbray and then 24 years later Jozo what other centre halves did we actually sign who were ‘sick notes’? I am not sure if this impression that we sign such players is accurate or not.

Something makes me think Calvin Miller is injured disappeared after playing ok I thought, certainly worth more game time.

We will need to go some in the next 14 days to come out of the transfer window stronger than we entered it. Hoping we are no just content to stagger over the line in the league this year!

Saying Lunny is the former compliance officer. Who is it now?

    ============

The current Compliance Officer is Tony McGlennan.

Lunny said something interesting about his role which is to look at evidence, check if any rules have been broken and put a case to a Judicial Panel who either agree or disagree.

That evidence gathering is underway and -speculating – one item that was gathered could be interesting.

Saying Lunny is the former compliance officer. Who is it now?

    =================================================

Vincent Lunny was replace by Tony McGlennan, as to their allegiences a quick read of FF will give you a flavour, as they are in no doubt as to their background, but they would, everyone else is to blame for their mess.

C,mon Celtic, sign a Centre Half that can come right into the team.”Aaarggh,a CH at 32,FFS,too old.I dont care if he is experienced with a shedfull of CL games,he is too expensive at that price, and too old.Why cant we sign a young CH,with massive scope to improve.”Like Ajer”.No,not him, another guy.Problem is,we wont spend any money.”We are trying to spend 3 million on a 32 year old”See what I mean, penny pinching.”There are 2 weeks left until the window closes.”Yeh,same old excuses.Neganon was right”.So you wont wait until the window closes to moan”.No I wont, far too much for Zenit tickets, how will the Babbees afford to watch. That will do to be going on with, until later.

The name does ring a bell now, although it doesn’t seem to crop up anywhere near as much as Lunny’s did a couple of years back.
