Turmoil in Zenit squad

365

There’s turmoil in the Zenit St Petersburg squad. Two players, striker Artem Dzyuba and midfielder Oleg Shatov, are in conflict with the club and will not travel to their winter training camp in Dubai.

Both players are current Russia internationals; Dzyuba scored eight goals in the Euro 2016 qualifiers, making him the country’s top scorer in the tournament. Zenit face Copenhagen in Dubai on Monday, the first of six friendly games, before they face their first competitive game of 2018, in Glasgow, four weeks tomorrow. Their last game was on 11 December.

Some poor Celtic scout will be charged with taking in Zenit’s three games in Dubai next week. It is a thankless job.

SSE Live Awards 2017

I know you enjoyed that week in May as much as I did, when we won the treble then celebrated the Lion’s 50th anniversary.  The SSE currently has an online poll looking for their top event of 2017.  You can go here and vote for ‘Celebrate 67 Live’.

Get it done.

NEW CQN PODCAST OUT NOW FEATURING TOMMY SHERIDAN

A Celtic State of Mind presents its 30th instalment of insightful discussion around the culture of Celtic Football Club, the city of Glasgow, and fans of the reigning treble-winning Scottish champions.

Kevin Graham is joined by Scotty Alcroft to interview Scottish pro-independence politician, Tommy Sheridan, at The Penalty Spot in Glasgow.

The interview took place as part of A Celtic State of Mind’s first live event – Five-a-sides at The Penalty Spot – and, as such, there is some background noise (including mobile interference – apologies) from the audience.

The other voice you may hear throughout this episode is that of former Celtic striker, Frank McGarvey, who is a friend of Tommy’s, and who was also interviewed separately that day for a future show.

You are sure to enjoy Tommy’s eclectic input, as he discusses everything from Catalan independence to Coolio, with a constant undercurrent of that thing called Celtic.

Liam’s contract with Bari is a permanent contract ghuys.

There must be a fee in that case. Maybe ‘undisclosed’?

Do you think the Zenit tickets are priced fairly and competitively? Is it only the supporters attending who think the pricing is way too much. ?

Oh and a big well done to the Coventry Emerald who have just tweeted that their bus is now full for Saturday. Safe journey guys.

Good luck to Liam, I’m sure we will sign you back in 7 or 8 yrs for 20 mill give or take a mill.

Yep,you could be right after his hugely successful spell in Scandinavia, and all the clubs trying to sign him.

Fairy tales.Decent player, never good enough for Celtic. Will only be back as a fan.

  7. It might be about making money for the Plc but the last couple of days have seen three players leave us.Two on loan with no reported signing fee and an apparent failure to find a buyer

    Cifti was bought for 1.88m

    Erik was bought for 2.25m

Liam, Take a guess at how much we got for Liam.

4.13m spent on who knows what’s coming back.

Ah well VVD’s money will cover that and the 900k on Compper and the remainder to be spent on the wandering Tosic at 33 years of age and 2.65m:))

(Maybe throw in a bit of the ticket money for the Zenit game to cover incidentals.)

  8. Well jumbo 67 we are repeatedly told that Celtic have all their targets lined up etc but it never seems to transpire.

Frankly our focus is on getting players out (which is normal mode, for our board).

What is desperate is Brendan talking, frankly, crap. That’s a very very bad sign.

But maybe to,or rows article will be about how Celtic are overseeing Lewis Morgan’s haircuts to ensure he is well prepared for joining Celtic.

By the way,if that was an intended dig at me,about “The supporters attending who think its too much”,its really a bit stupid.Anyone who is not attending wont give a toss one way or the other how much it costs. As for me,I only pay for 2 Season Tickets every year, and Celtic TV over here, even although I can get it on a stream,so really, what right do I have to comment?.

  10. A wee quiz question from SPL stats on Twitter.

Liam Henderson will be just the fourth Scottish player to play in the top two tiers of Italian football.

    Who were the other three?

  11. NEGANON2

What bit of ‘Celtic have already outspent the entire combined SPL in the January window’ is it you are not understanding? ‘

If you think Sevco are actually competing financially with Celtic, and not just chasing the sheep, then your brainwashed.

BR didn’t say we needed CB’s ( plural ) he said we needed a CB and he signed one we knew about even before the window opened. He also intimated the CB’s we have were maligned, and harshly criticised.

Marvin Compper is ineligible for Zenit and he also asked a question himself ” Which CB for Europe would you buy ?”

Did you write to him? it would be quicker and more purposeful than your daily CQN diatribe apart from having half this window left, he’s got some of the summer left as well.

Remember don’t lose sight of the fact that your CB choices, especially £4M or over might not play for Celtic wages, or want to come to Sevconia and join a wee the diddy league.

    HH

p.s. The Europa League tickets are pricey IMHO but well and truly comparable in rip off Britain.

  14. Bournes we are streets ahead of the SPFL in terms of finances so it’s not comparable. What is interesting is with another slew of cl money, plus the vvd cash Celtic are cash rich. Brendan said he wanted a centre half but the club seem intent on selling at least two. Brendan says we have 4. Two are injured, one we want to sell.

But worse than that he is telling us we are better now than last year. It’s patently absurd.

As for all this “we can’t compete” stuff. It’s nonsense. We just don’t want to spend the money.

  17. From official Celtic site. No mention of any fee.

LIAM HENDERSON has joined Italian Serie B side, Bari, on a permanent deal. The 21-year-old midfielder is a graduate of the Celtic Youth Academy and made his first-team debut for the Hoops against Motherwell at Fir Park on December 6, 2013, coming on late in the game to replace Scott Brown.

Liam has gone on to make 36 appearances for the club, scoring three goals. He won a League Cup medal in 2015 and has played his part in Celtic’s three most recent title triumphs.

As well as his contribution for Celtic, Liam also had two very successful loan spells. The first of those, in 2015, saw him spend four months in Norway with Rosenborg, during which time he helped the club to a league and cup double.

And in a season-long loan at Hibernian for the 2015/16 campaign, Liam was one of the Easter Road’s outstanding performers, culminating in his contribution at Hampden to help Hibs beat Rangers 3-2 and win the Scottish Cup for the first time in 114 years.

Liam now takes up a new football challenge in Italy, and everyone at Celtic wishes him every success with Bari while also thanking him for his contribution to the club over the past few years.

  18. Turkeybhoy

Thanks for the reply. If everyone votes with their feet and watches the game on TV then we possibly lose the biggest asset we have on a European night. The team then suffers.

Many of us can afford to pay the asking price and will make the effort to attend, however many supporters cannot, especially family groups.

Others will simply think the club are being unrealistically greedy and will perceive they are being ” ripped off” . They may well then follow your advice and watch it on TV.

I think we can all agree with the quote ” Football without fans is nothing”

    Hail Hail.

  19. Noganon @ 8pm

As I said two weeks to go in this window so I will reserve judgement. I do though think that getting players who have little or no hope of playing seems fair enough and a bit different to the days we would get rid of our best players to whichever English team came calling.
