Turmoil in Zenit squad

365

There’s turmoil in the Zenit St Petersburg squad. Two players, striker Artem Dzyuba and midfielder Oleg Shatov, are in conflict with the club and will not travel to their winter training camp in Dubai.

Both players are current Russia internationals; Dzyuba scored eight goals in the Euro 2016 qualifiers, making him the country’s top scorer in the tournament. Zenit face Copenhagen in Dubai on Monday, the first of six friendly games, before they face their first competitive game of 2018, in Glasgow, four weeks tomorrow. Their last game was on 11 December.

Some poor Celtic scout will be charged with taking in Zenit’s three games in Dubai next week. It is a thankless job.

SSE Live Awards 2017

I know you enjoyed that week in May as much as I did, when we won the treble then celebrated the Lion’s 50th anniversary.  The SSE currently has an online poll looking for their top event of 2017.  You can go here and vote for ‘Celebrate 67 Live’.

Get it done.

NEW CQN PODCAST OUT NOW FEATURING TOMMY SHERIDAN

A Celtic State of Mind presents its 30th instalment of insightful discussion around the culture of Celtic Football Club, the city of Glasgow, and fans of the reigning treble-winning Scottish champions.

Kevin Graham is joined by Scotty Alcroft to interview Scottish pro-independence politician, Tommy Sheridan, at The Penalty Spot in Glasgow.

The interview took place as part of A Celtic State of Mind’s first live event – Five-a-sides at The Penalty Spot – and, as such, there is some background noise (including mobile interference – apologies) from the audience.

The other voice you may hear throughout this episode is that of former Celtic striker, Frank McGarvey, who is a friend of Tommy’s, and who was also interviewed separately that day for a future show.

You are sure to enjoy Tommy’s eclectic input, as he discusses everything from Catalan independence to Coolio, with a constant undercurrent of that thing called Celtic.

  2. The zenit game is over priced.

There are 2seats across from me that have been unoccupied all season . not a single bum on seat.

I want those seats for family in Scotland that want to see the Celtic every game.

The ticket office tells me they are not available.

Is it an overseas colonial buying them just so they can say I contributed and I have an opinion.

  3. Hard to say where the biggest sighs of relief came from today,at the news Russel Martin had signed with Sevco.

The Norwich fans, glad to see the back of him,the Norwich Board, who no longer have to pay the numpties wages,or 52,000 members of the Tartan Army, that know, now he has signed for Sevco, they will never again witness him in the Dark Blue of Scotland.

Transfer window still has a bit to go. Not sure why Sevco taking all of these has beens on loan has got some guys on here a bit bothered. If any of them had signed for Thistle or Hibs no one would have batted an eyelid. Who would you rather have in charge at your club – Brendan or Murts? Judge the window when it closes, not when it’s still wide open.

  13. Do I think 40 quid is too much for the Zenit game. Not at all.

I will just get some of these native chappies to put their back in a bit more.

“Whats that Darling?.Yes,I will have another Gin and Tonic on the Stoop”

“Oh there was a wild Colonial boy”.

  14. Really sad and disappointed to see Liam Henderson leave our Club. Puzzled by it given his talent and attitude. I don’t see behind the scenes so I can only go by what I’ve seen watching the Under 20 regularly. He’s strong, combative, reads the game well and never stops working.

Brendan and his team see what’s happening day by day and they have a framework for the future and I trust them. But sad to see Liam go.

At least we still have his wee brother Ewan. And he’s developing nicely too.

Thanks Liam for years of entertainment – you’ll do well son.

  15. 2 full week to go before transfer window closes, thus far it has not been great. However, if we manage to get one or two quality player in the door, then it will be worth the wait.

dont care if the players are 20 or 33 so long as they are better than what we have. Good pros are playing well into their 30s these day and having a few older head in a team is no bad thing, learning from good pros often help the young guys to develop good habits.

Erik’s move to Denmark was decided last summer when he was on the brink of a move to Copenhagen, but got injured, it fell through.

BR didn’t rate or buy him, just like Simunovic Boyata Ajer and Bitton all of whom got a game before Erik after BR decided he was surplus.

Compper was first mooted after Simunovic broke down before a Euro tie, then BR said we needed a CB, clearly because of Jozo’s unreliability due to injuries. Up that point he was the first choice CB and probably the most expensive Celtic defender of all time?

We don’t ever buy ‘big’ in January unless I’ved missed it , and Jozo at £3M tops was bought in summer, and looked how that turned out.

£Millions in, then £Millions out won’t be on transfers in a January window history

shows us that, the summer window is different because players move when contracts are negotiated and Celtic have a better chance of getting better quality players such as Olivier Ntcham.

We’ll sign again just like we always do, not a ‘big fee’ maybe even another CB and probably in the last week or on deadline day.

The reason for those two empty seats is obvious. They have been bought up by Jim Traynor so that his pals on Skysports can zoom in on them every time they show a game at CP, Thereby using a cinematic trick to make the stadium look half empty as a result of the turgid fitba we’ve been playing during our extended slump.

    Simple.

  18. I remain confident that we will bring in at least 2 more decent players before window shuts.

The squad looks very bare now, Rogic, Roberts, Armstrong, Hayes & now Marvelous Marvin are all crocked,

Benyu, Erik & Liam gone, it’s a no brainer we will bring in a couple more at least.

I think when you’re a business staring down the barrel of a very big gun, rule 1 is to carry on regardless, as best you can, singing ‘la la la’ with your fingers in your ears. They need the hordes to keep turning up.

Hence the massively-inflated prices quoted in the SMSM by Hun PR for a shovelful of has-beens and never-will-be’s from Mexico, Portugal and the dingy corners of England, and their dignified brown-brogue attempts to sign third-rate names, without actually paying for them, this time around.

When the end comes for the Loan Arrangers, it’ll be quick.

    And this time hopefully permanent.

    Anyway, feck ’em.

Good luck young Henderson and all the very best. Interesting move, really hope it works out.

Bad luck Marvin Compper – but Mrs GreeninBingley told me last night that you have “really dreamy, lovely eyes…” so that’s something, I suppose.

    You suave git. :)

  20. Tickets fot a 3rd rate Cup tie tonight between Chelski v Norwich,

    Cheapest,45 quid,rising to 87 quid.

  21. Posted earlier £25 max for Zenit game IMO, a lot of cup ties thankfully, but i thought it was time ro get a wee bit back.Charging non ST holders extra needs looked at, not everyone can afford a ST, don’t penalise them.

  22. I sometimes struggle with the CQN reality and how it differs from my own. Today has largely been one of doom and gloom on here – injuries, players leaving, not enough signings, ticket prices etc etc.

    Meanwhile Celtic have:-

    – Won the last 4 domestic competitions

    – Are 8 points clear in the league

    – Had the longest unbeaten run since Willie Maley in 1917 – 69 games undefeated

    – On track for a first ever back-to-back domestic treble

    – Had their first away win in the Champions League in 5 years and only the second since 2001

    – Are still in European football after Christmas

    – Have one of the best managers in European football

Oh how much did you say for a non-SB ticket for the Zenit game? Feck it! I’m never going back until the Board are out and we have fan power.

  23. If the wee guy Musonda can’t get in this Chelsea side he’s wasting his time there. They have been abject. Will we get him? Probably not.

    We have scouts there tonight.

    Checking out Grant Hanley.

  27. Not really a fan of the transfer window as it causes artificial inflation and creates a landscape that facilitates the domination by the richer clubs.

Our board should have continuous improvement in all areas of the club and particularly the team.

Our dismal European performances with the odd exception showed that the team has areas that need to improve.

Our youth can hopefully help in this but signing some players with guile and experience should have been prioritised.

There is still time in this window to do such so .

Another problem is that it is now very difficult to have a long term strategy due to Bosman and financial inequality.

The financial gap in football mirror’s societies and the long term prognosis is not good for either.
