Turnbull and the Euros

412

1998 was an era before the tier one clubs started to harvest vast numbers of players, so by some quirk of nature, Celtic had more players represented at the World Cup that year than any other club in the world.  11 in total left the newly crowned champions to travel to France: McNamara, Boyd, McKinlay, Burley, Jackson, Donnelly, Lambert, Gould, Rieper and Weighorst.

We were delighted for the players who took part in the tournament but it had consequences when practically an entire team missed out on a close season.  Legs tired in the spring of 1999.

It would be churlish for us to grudge James Forrest or Callum McGregor the chance to participate the Euros this summer.  They deserve it and will surely go.  David Turnbull is the one I am most keen on to stay home.  David will be a crucial player for Celtic next season and I want him fit and ready for the Champions League qualifiers.  Ryan Christie, in the final year of his contract, is likely to be around for at least a part of the qualification campaign but any late season tiredness is likely to someone else’s problem.

    What position does Paterson play

    ——-

He’s filling in for Tav-Pen. Looks a better and stronger player. Not seen enough to know if his crosses and free kicks are any good. And no penalties tonight for him to try his hand at.

Good luck wi boris then…..that kinda talk (annoying) will get you jailed in his world!

  4. Yes I noticed the young Paterson fella too. Scored a really good goal in the last round. He almost replicated it tonight with an excellent run and his shot to the far corner rose over the bar instead of snuggling in the pokey. Talented lad. We could do with a good left winger to keep him occupied in defence.

We know they are a stinking racist club….however, I do believe Kamara was racially abused by that sleekit Slavia player. I don’t know if UEFA use the balance of probability judgement but I hope the guy gets his comeuppance.

If true its deplorable. If true that is, with such serious things like accusations of racism and only the 2 people involved, the balance of probability should not be used. Ask the 2 players to come to mediation and educate.

If true about Racism its education the young man needs.

Slavia Prague have furiously defended their player Ondrej Kudela and refuted claims he racially abused Rangers’ Glen Kamara.

The Europa League clash between the two clubs at Ibrox last night ended with angry exchanges between players as well as members of both coaching staff when it was alleged that Kudela had approached Kamara and made a racist comment.

Steven Gerrard revealed his player told him of the accusations and the manager insisted he would back Kamara ‘100 percent’. But in the aftermath, Slavia released a statement in support of their own player, insisting he had not made any racist comments and claiming he was PUNCHED following the game by Kamara. They claim Gerrard witnessed the alleged attack.

The Czech outfit also took aim at Gers for ‘unprecedentedly malicious’ play, claiming ‘many fouls’ from the Glasgow giants had resulted in injury of their players.

The statement read: “Slavia resolutely denies the disgusting accusation of one of the team captains Ondřej Kúdela of racist behaviour. Already the founders of our club gave us crest where white colour means “the purity of the idea of sports and fair contest where the rival is not our enemy, but respected opponent.” Today, Slavia is an international club based on respect for our opponents and mutual respect of all people and cultures.

“After one of the brutal fouls, Ondřej Kúdela spoke to one of the Rangers players. “I told him ‘You f***ing guy’. It was said in emotions, but I absolutely deny there was anything racist in those words,” Kúdela stated.

“Slavia players faced an unprecedentedly malicious play from their opponents. They have never experienced such play in any game they participated in modern history of the European competitions. Many brutal tackles resulted in injuries of our players. Goalkeeper Ondřej Kolář was taken to hospital with ten stitches on his head.

“After the end of the game, the team was not allowed to enter the dressing room. Ondřej Kúdela was assaulted by player Kamara and hit with fists in the head when Rangers manager Steven Gerrard witnessed the incident. Even the UEFA representatives who were also present on the site of the incident were shocked by this behaviour.

  18. I think the reason that Huns are playing better is they are nurturing any natural talent that players have.

Example- the younger guys full of enthusiasm and full of running forward with exuberance.

We have had young players like this and after a few weeks coaching they do not go by anyone, turn back etc.

Although we made a few quid out of Frimpong he is the classic example, he was full of energy and naturally wanted to beat people then we coached him and he did not want to go by anyone and I know about opponents learning how he plays etc.. he had plenty of 1 on 1’s to go by opposition and did it very little at the end before his move.

His natural talent will get coached better in Germany.

    All my opinion of course.

All that said will any young Huns players go for big bucks???

    D :)

  19. Huns surely banned for a year in Europe after their attacks on players etc inside the sanctuary of a stadium.

  21. Next season’s SPFL champions almost certain to get automatic CL group stage qualification.

Us and Sevco are basically now in a 1v1 race to a £30m pot.

Will either (both?) of us speculate to accumulate in the coming months?

For bragging rights and historical status, this season and 10IAR was massive but in reality and for the direction of our clubs, next season has taken a major twist.

  22. JHB, how is the ethnic cleansing coming along?

I still need to know if I should be very worried.

  23. Locked out of the changing rooms

    All witnessed by UEFA officials

Oh, and the Salmon leap, penalty every day in the SPFL to one team only

Having just watched Steevie’s presser, what I saw was a deflecting, sore loser angling to get the result overturned, and force a tie win award or a replay. Sure, racial sledging is inexcusable but it’s still an allegation at this stage as far as I have read? The abuser should, if proven, get a ban but the result should stand.

Steevie focussed on that 1x incident (‘which is bigger than football’ he quotes) but left oot that head injury concussion is an equally severe issue after Roofe’s brutal UFC assault on their goalie.

Sevco FC are sleekit in Scoddland for sure, but mark my words, SG was publicly lobbying UEFA for an over-rule.

    Will they get a result?

Will we compound their misery on Sunday, more important.

    ####

Does it not occur to you that it is the component parts of the Union that own the bigotry rather than the Union itself?

And that of the component parts, Scotland punched above its weight in contributing to the bigotry?

And of all the mainstream political parties on the mainland (I know, I know) few can bested on the issue of anti Irish Catholic bigotry than our very own SNP?

In the present day anti Irish Catholic bigotry is much more prevalent in Scotland than in England. The Union isn’t to blame for that. Scottish people are to blame for that.

  27. Aye ok fishy fishy, like when I asked you where the hunners a union jacks were in wishay 😂 have a good day need to do a bit of work
