TURNBULL’S TRIBUTE TO HOOPS TRIO

1

NEW Bhoy David Turnbull has thanked Scott Brown and Callum McGregor for playing key roles in his emergence at Celtic.

The £2.75million arrival from Motherwell in the summer has been a relevation since his stunning performance in the 3-2 Europa League win over Lille at Parkhead in December.

Turnbull scored his first Hoops goal against the French cracks and added his seventh with his gloriously-struck winner in the club’s fifth successive Premiership victory over Aberdeen in midweek.

The 21-year-old playmaker is determined to continue his welcome progress and insists: “I would say there is more to come. Obviosuly, I have scored another goal, but I would like to add more and get more assists. I want to keep creating more chances in every game.

“I feel I have been in great form and have scored some great goals. I would just like to keep adding to that, to continue creating and scoring as many as I can.”

ON THE RUN…David Turnbull in action.

Onfield leader Brown and his vice-captain McGregor have played their part in guiding Turnbull in the right direction during a frustrating and disappointing campaign for the faltering champions and Odsonne Edouard also gets a special mention from the former Motherwell kid.

“Yeah, he is world class,” said the stylish youngster. “He is a great player to play beside. I can link up well with him. You know he is going to do something magic or play a one-two with you. We are on the same wavelength. It is good playing alongside him

“And I think I learn from the game intelligence of the older boys – the Cals and the Broonies. They give you wee points and you learn off them every day on the training ground from what they do.

PRIZE GUYS…Odsonne Edouard and David Turnbull.

”Confidence is coming because we are winning games. That is a good run we have gone on now. Every game we go into we feel more confident. Any time you win, you feel more confident.

“It feels good when you get the plaudits some of the time, but it’s a team game. Every game I have been involved in I feel the team has done well. It is just nice to contribute however I can.

“We have got pride to play for. We will keep pushing until everything is mathematically done. We are just going to keep pushing in every game and try to get the wins. The confidence keeps coming with every win we get. We push on and I am sure we will be able to do that.”

MATCHWINNER…David Turnbull fires in against Aberdeen.

Turnbull has now been linked with the possibility of winning a place in Steve Clarke’s Euro squad with games against England, Croatia and the Czech Republic due in June as Scotland play in their first major international competition since the World Cup Finals in France in 1998.

The powerhouse, speaking to the Daily Record, added: “Obviously, if that happens it would be a great bonus and a great feeling for me and everybody involved with me. I am not looking at that just now, I am just taking it game by game. But if that happens it would be a bonus.

“We have got great players in the team who have done well for both club and country over the years. I would like to follow in their footsteps and do the same. Whether that happens or not I don’t know. But I hope so.”

Next up for Turnbull is the Premiership trip to Dingwall for Sunday’s 7.30pm kick-off against Ross County.
