KYOGO FURUHASHI had a belated birthday celebration by hitting a double in the 5-0 Scottish Cup romp against Morton at Parkhead yesterday.
The Japanese striker, who turned 28 the previous day, hoisted his goal tally to 20 for this campaign.
That matches the total Kyogo netted in his debut season which saw the international frontman’s progress interrupted for four months with a knee injury and then a ligament problem.
The pacy raider was one of Ange Postecoglou’s first recruits for the Hoops when he paid £4.6million to lure him from J-League outfit Vissel Kobe in July 2021.
He thumped in a memorable hat-trick on his first appearance in Paradise as the hosts hammered Dundee 6-0 on August 8 in a performance that gave us all a glimpse of the promise of what was to follow in a title-winning crusade.
Kyogo took to Instagram after his latest double salvo to say: “Another game, another win.”
He didn’t forget his colleagues, either, as he added: “Thanks to my team for the nice birthday surprise.”
The words were accompanied by a snap of a cake.
BIRTHDAY BASH…Kyogo Furuhashi wallops his second – and Celtic’s fourth – goal high into the Morton net.
In fact, you could say his first-half destruction of the Championship side was all a piece of cake for the personality hitman.
Postecoglou gave him a rest in the second-half, but you just know Kyogo wanted to be out there attempting to add to his impressive his goal haul.
In the popular Celt’s case, twenty’s never going to be plenty. That’s bad news for opposing defences as the season unfolds.
