Two points gained at the weekend changes priorities for Lazio and Aberdeen

102

Reports in Italy suggest Lazio will ring the changes for Celtic Park on Thursday.  They made a remarkable recovery to snatch a point after being 0-3 down to Atalanta on Saturday, with striker, Ciro Immobile, scoring two penalties.

That recovery was welcomed but the draw means Lazio sit one point and one place behind neighbours Roma, who currently occupy the last European qualification spot in Serie A.  They have Fiorentina away on Sunday with only goal difference separating the teams.  There are seven teams within a win of catching Lazio, you could understand if domestic games were prioritised over Europe.

Had Hearts not taken a point from Newco on Sunday, you and I might be saying the same thing.  Already two points behind, the visit to Pittodrie on Sunday would feel like our most important game of the season.

Now, I’m not so sure.  If we slip on Sunday, will anyone, apart from the permanently neurotic, have serious worries about our Premiership challenge?  I see the argument for resting players in Europe ahead of the League Cup semi-final, but not in the league.

I do read on here most days…. just haven’t got much of interest to add.

I miss the raging arguments that used to happen – full of good info and crack.

I don’t mean the disrespectful stuff mind.

Sorry pal, I’m a regular in Olhos d’Agua which is west of Faro. Hopefully someone will have a suggestion, good luck.

  3. League is more important at this time. Sunday time strongest. Rest players against Lazio.

In terms of Taylor not playing, I feel that he has been with us since 2nd September and has not impressed in Training. Bolingoli has improved and seems very fit. Johnny Hayes is obviously 2nd choice for Left Back. At right back Frimpong , Elhamed and Bauer have all done well. Elhamed can play at Left Back according to Israeli sources. I thing O’Conner can also play LB.

Taylor is not good enough for Celtic and has never impressed while playing for Killie or his one game for Scotland. We should not have bought him.

We have too big a squad at 32. It leads to 18 players not playing, it builds resentment in the players sitting in the stand and blocks young players. Mikey Johnston, Frimpong, O’Connor, Afolabi Okoflex & Dembele are all blocked. We are also wasting money

  4. I too was wondering about Taylor, i was thinking it was maybe that, as he is a little bit small in terms of size and bulk, that he is spending his time with strength and conditioning coaches / going to the gym etc. in order to be first team ready

I don’t believe the story he called LG a ‘fenian b*stard’ or whatever it was

Sounds like another one of those made up ‘Whatsapp group’ rumours that someone on Sevcomedia has dreamt up

  5. Just a little laugh before I go:

The Sun has, apparently, reported that Crystal Palace are to offer twenty million pounds for Alfredo Morelos. Aston Villa are seemingly also interested.

He is obviously a far better player than I had thought. Either that, or the Sun has just made up the story .

  6. I certainly wouldn’t rest players against Lazio. I would go with our strongest team but definitely include Christie who is banned from Don’s game anyhow,

There are quite a few players now and there is not much between them, Elhamed, Bauer, Frimpong , Boli Hayes, Bitton, Ajer at the back, Julien is a cut above the rest so for me Julien & any 3 of the others playing in their natural positions would be acceptable against the Don’s.

We have plenty of options wide & in midfield as well. Here Brown & CalMac are the pivotal figure for me so it’s Brown , CalMac plus Christie defo’s against Lazio & Brown & CalMac defo against the Don’s.

Up front is the worry as Eddie is in a league of his own so ideally you want him to play in both games.

So for me Forster,Julien, Brown.CalMac, Christie & Eddie are the spine to build the Lazio team around & the same five minus Christie for the Don’s.

On that, it’s a bit ridiculous we only have one proven striker and so no one else can take the burden off Edouard

I think most of us try not to think about it, but God forbid anything happens to him

  8. BHOYLO83

Nailed it . Frankly its ridiculous that we rely on one striker. A huge burden is being placed on Eddy. We can only hope he stays injury free.

Agreed – play Eddie against Lazio and (if still fit) Aberdeen, then give Bayo the full game next Wednesday at home to St Mirren.

I think if we are forced to play Bayo because of injury to Eddie that he may surprise a few people. I do not think he is in Eddie’s league, but has enough about him to get goals in the SPFL.

    🍀⚽️

  11. I’d like to see Bayo and Shved get a full game against St Mirren. Shved scored plenty of goals last season. Rest JF and Edouard.

  12. I think the young lad signed from Southampton jonathan will find himself on the bench quite soon, and will be getting minutes on the park, especially if the injuries to Griffiths continue

  13. Anyone been watching “The Godfather of Harlem” got recommended to watch it by a mate in work today?

I’d be very disappointed if we drop points on Sunday… Win every game that’s within our capabilities including Thursday. 👍🍀

  14. I think Bayo could turn out to be a bit of a handful for defenders but i cant see him becomong a prolific goalscorer

    Beginning to worry about Griffiths

I’m thinkin Sinclair may be a backup plan

  15. glendalystonsils on

If we are happy to let Clancy referee our games, we need to make sure we don’t give him a chance to influence the outcome, because he will.

That Man city keeper is the best passer of a ball I’ve seen in a long time , including any player outfield.

  18. Hazard misses an open net, hitting the bar after rounding the keeper

Re. Morelos, while there is no way in hell he is worth 20mill, it’s actually not a lot when it comes to the EPL

Nothing would surprise me when it comes to the funny money flying about down there

  19. With respect I cannot understand the train of thought of resting players against Lazio

These are the high profile games that make the best young foreign talent want to come to Parkhead.

Without European football we would struggle to attract the likes of Eduard or Dembele.

European nights @ Paradise are magical. We neglect them at our peril.

I have no doubt whatsoever that the UK/US are doing just that as highlighted by Craig Murray. Disgusting when they appear to have colluded with the US diplomat’s wife doing a bunk. This is all part of the Tory far right design to screw the plebs, etc. etc.

I disagree regarding Taylor, and I’m certainly not judging him before I see him performing in the hoops. He’s a decent left back. HH

  25. Strongest teams out for both games. It’s only the end of October, for God’s sake, loads of permutations for the St Mirren game,to rest players.Massive boost if we gub Lazio for the Dons game.We get this argument every Euro game, knowing Lenny will play his strongest team.

  26. Even for this place, has to be some kind of a record.Taylor branded a dud before even playing a game.Unbelievable.

  27. Sumbdy was asking about the film Robert the Bruce 2029…try Magic Dragon kodi addon, it’s not too shabby

As for Lazio tomorrow…strongest team available, my prediction 2-0…all fronts will take care of themselves…or are we not strong enuff to fight on 4…Rhetorical question.
