Uefa compliance officer set for SFA next week

618

A Uefa compliance officer will visit the Scottish FA early next week after European football’s governing body were asked to look into what was happening inside Scottish football by people within the German game.  Scottish football has been rocked by allegations of improper registration of players for over a month now.  The SFA recently concluded an inquiry into Rangers without reference to the allegations while the Scottish Premier League have announced an inquiry, but indicate it will not report anytime soon.

Although the allegations have consequences beyond the SPL, including international and European football, the SFA have failed to actively address concerns which could see 12 years of football results rewritten, prompting interest from Uefa.

The pertinent point in bold. The Huns arguably fall foul of everything in that paragraph. Heaven help them if they’ve got whiff of the second contracts.

PAOK Salonika has been fined and threatened with a ban from European competition for breaching UEFA’s club licensing regulations, European football’s governing body said.

UEFA said its disciplinary committee had fined PAOK, which has reached the last 32 of the Europa League, 250,000 euros, of which 200,000 euros is suspended for a probationary period of three years.

“In addition, PAOK has been excluded from one UEFA club competition for which they qualify in the next three seasons. The exclusion is also suspended for a probationary period of three years,” UEFA said.

UEFA added: “PAOK must prove that, by June 30, 2012, they have no outstanding overdue financial obligations towards employees, tax authorities, social security institutions or other clubs arising from transfer agreements incurred before 30 June 2012….UEFA’s competent body will ensure that PAOK comply with this order.”

Former Leicester City and Greece midfielder Theodoros Zagorakis has helped rescue the club from collapse since taking over as president in 2007. However, PAOK, twice Greek champions and famous for their fanatical support, still struggle to make ends meet due to the difficult financial situation in the country.

UEFA licensing regulations ban clubs from taking part in European competition if they owe money to tax authorities, government social security institutions, other clubs or their own employees.

Clubs must also meet sporting criteria, which include rules governing the size of doping rooms, media officers and the coach’s qualifications, as well as minimum standards on infrastructure. These regulations will be strengthened further in the 2014/15 season when clubs will have to prove that their expenditure does not exceed their generated income.

The new policy, dubbed Financial Fair Play, is aimed to stop rich owners from distorting the market with huge cash injections and to stop clubs running up huge losses as they attempt to win trophies. PAOK will face Italian club Udinese in the knockout stages of the Europa League.

  3. I’m going to take a wee guess and say that our next final will be our 160th final. Does anybody know how many finals we have played in, not won; not cheated and beaten, not beaten, just played in?

As Awe Naw posted yesterday, I agree with both of you, however I suspect that it’s the equivalent of a rocket up their arse and so…. I expect improved governance and clarity within the dark halls of Hampden park.

In short, they need to learn Governance in lieu of succulence.

  17. Regarding Conroy, was there not a rumour flying about saying a couple of refs were being investigated for taking bungs from a certain club that pays there taxes, (NOT)

  18. If,as reported, the UEFA Compliance Officer is coming to town, then perhaps he should be pointed towards the licence granted to rangers to compete in THIS season’s European competitions.

It may be useful if some of you “connected” CQNers dropped the words “Article 66” in the right ears….just in case they haven’t picked up on it already.
