Uefa-Res 12, Craig Thomson, take a look at yourself

1052

The document from Uefa to the Resolution 12 team, which emerged online over the weekend, is genuine. The headline part of this correspondence was always going to be Uefa confirming that whatever errors or omissions on the part of Old Rangers and the SFA’s Uefa vetting process, no further action was possible as New Rangers are a “new club/new company”.

Priceless, I know, but a delightful wee surprise, though it was, the status of Newco Rangers wasn’t the purpose of Resolution 12. Res 12 was about SFA process and accountability.

There was a great deal of correspondence with media figures since the letter was produced. It’s probably worthwhile noting the chronology of correspondence:

Uefa wrote to the Res 12 team on 6 June, copying the SFA and Celtic. After this date Grant Russell at STV asked Uefa for an update and received pretty much the same information that was sent to the Res 12 guys, without the supporting “new club/new company” line.

You may be of the view that after receiving the 6 June letter, the SFA could have asked Uefa not to offer such information in future (the layers of this story are endless). We’ll never know, but the horse had already bolted.

As correspondence on Res 12 continues, the team decided not to attempt private conversations with Uefa while making correspondence public, which is why this leak didn’t come from the Res 12 team. But I’m glad it’s out. It’s the definitive and irrefutable reference point on the status of Newco Rangers, and it’s on Uefa headed notepaper.

I don’t expect I’ll be goaded about Res 12 online as often going forward.

While we’re on the subject of the SFA: Craig Thomson, take a look at yourself. You know this is not good enough.  Your decision-making this season has been atrocious. James Forrest booking, for staying several yards away from the crowd after scoring a goal, was ludicrous, capping a multitude of errors this month.

If only people at the SFA were accountable. Which brings us back to the point above.

Getting nervous about tomorrow.  So much on the line……

  1. The older I get the more nerve wracking it is watching it on the telly, much better at the game even really bad defeats are easier to take when seeing it first hand.

My brother on the other hand , we can be three nil up with just minutes to go and he’s still worried .

  2. Just as the SFA and minty are getting a free ride with certain financial curiosities and procedural idiosyncrasies, so too are UFFA over why it is deemed a punishable offense to fly the flag of ANY country in a free democratic society.

Why also are their rules and regulations also enforced selectively?

Why can one club wave all the banners and flags they want, set off huge displays of pyro with no comment and sing all the rule breaking songs in their repertoire with no sanction and no apparent media backlash?

We knew the ‘sporting bias’ issue would be with us this year and we knew it would be with us from the very start but it still doesn’t prepare you for it when you see it happening. CT decided, for whatever reason, not to send Forrester off on three occasions. New Rangers benefited from this in terms of points gained. Not the first time it will happen, they will be whipped up into such a state when we play the new team that whatever the reason was for CT not to send him off that reason will be there again.

There is no dependence and/or relationship between the two GB/TRUSS variables, namely – wilfully flouting UEFA rules and raising money for charity.

Therefore there can be no correlation between them – they are two separate acts – one cannot mitigate the other – one does not justify the other.

I suggested this last week on here; for £10M to £12M it would be a footballing and financial investment over the next 4 years or so. Guardiola has already said if a player wants to leave Man City he will not stand in their way so it makes sense on so many different levels.

An attractive banner saying there would be a collection etc to which I’m sure many would support would have told us what was more important. Those receiving or those collecting.

It is the my way or the high way approach that folk object to. We’ll I do. Happy to be persuaded, unhappy being railroaded.

I’d like to know what the decision making process was and how the GB interacted with the SLO.

What you are removing from the equation is the high profile the protest raised – this significantly increased (IMHO) the campaign profile. Without this I think the response would be significantly lower.

I have to be honest I did not think Brendan could get us into the C.L.group stages in his first season and yet here we are 90 minutes away from qualification. So heroes and villians come to mind which will it be ? I am still not convinced by our defence at all and the loss of four goals in two games seems to underline how unsteady it is.The first 30 minutes will be vital if we concede an early goal it could well be a long night however if it is 0-0 or even better we have scored it could ease things. Will Gordon keep his place will o’connor keep his will Paddy Roberts be risked ? we all have our views but the only one that counts is Brendan so I will wish him luck and hope he becomes a Celtic legend.H.H.

A luxury private jet previously used by pop star Madonna has been leased to Celtic.

Brendan Rodgers and the squad will be flown to Israel ahead of Celtic’s Europa League qualifying match against Hapoel Be’er Sheva on a customised Boeing 757-200 once used by Madonna in New Zealand on her Rebel Heart tour.

On loan from Greek-based aviation specialists Gain Jet, the cabin has been fitted out for VIP guests with club class accommation for 62 passengers. In comparison to Sir David Murray´s jet which he used to use to regularly fly in proper top class signings it is a bit of a banger but airworthy.

The players and coaching staff will be able to use wi-fi mid-flight and enjoy a first class food and drink service.

Celtic go into the match defending a 5-2 lead from last week’s first leg at Celtic Park.
