Uefa’s Nations League, a competition too far

There is every chance you do not know if tonight’s Czech Republic – Scotland game is competitive or a friendly (it’s Nations League, so somewhere in-between), but, like me, you will be concerned that during European qualification, several Celtic players will take the field against the remaining Czechs who have not tested positive for Covid.

This disease has an incubation period of up to 14 days.  The Czechs have lost their first team due to infection and we now roll the dice hoping there has been no cross-contamination around Czech football circles in recent days.

Nothing about this is right.  The Nations League should have been one of the many things we have sacrificed due to the pandemic.  It required international travel and sporting bubbles to be mix.  What happened to the Czechs following their win over Slovakia on Friday will have consequences for both nations and for clubs across the continent.  I know the SFA are far from competent at most things, but the issue here lies at Uefa.

  1. SFTB did such a fine job that it is harly necessary for me to add to it but ( Sorry JG ) I had a couple of opinions so here they are:

    Kinglubo said:

“Firstly, I am not anti gay, what people do in their own homes etc is nothing to do with me,OK.”

    If you are not anti gay, why do `they` have to be restricted to being so in their own homes? That is certainly what is easily inferred from your comment;

“What does bug me with the LGBT lot…”

    `lot` is hardly neutral !

    Likewise with `snowflakes`;

Educating young people about this particular social reality is hardly `promoting them (LGBT).`

,` teach LGBT shit to kids,`

The choice of `shit` doesn`t suggest an open mind on the subject !

So, Kinglubo, when you say , “Firstly, I am not anti gay` well perhaps you are not a fully blown `anti` but I would suggest that you are at least a wee bit !

There is more but enough is enough (from me).

  2. Man Utd and Man City don’t miss the two young players who broke the rules and neither did Garath Southgate.

What is very striking though is that I must have missed the media onslaught and government outcry and direct intervention.

I also await calls that England be deducted points.

Maybe I’m just paranoid with the lack of social interaction, it’s playing tricks on my mind.

Could unsocial distancing & isolation also be a factor on CQN ? Remember isolation has historically been used as a punishment.

    HH to all.

    Turnbull never made the bench!

What a waste of money he’s been!

    Good grief…did I do that ? Wow.

Take out Brown then and put in Turnball :)

  4. All persons regardless of race, gender or ethnicity should be treated as equals.

No more , no less, equality should be the benchmark and aspiration .

    HH to all.

  5. Its a sign of the Times.

    Time to Realise.

    Hey I agree.

`I look forward to the day when CQN can get through a Post/Comments without using the demeaning and de-humanising term ‘Hun’. I won’t hold my breath. (And NO, I’m not!)`

Are you aware of the apparent origin of the term`Hun` to describe some Rangers then/ Sevco now supporters?

Also, I think many football supporters use `Hun` to distinguish between the worst element of that Club`s support and their closer to normal supporters.

    Sheep? Arabs?

    Big Wavy

CQN is becoming more like Follow Follow by the day.

G my thoughts too mhate,SFTB another fine post.hh

    ‘Big Wavy

CQN is becoming more like Follow Follow by the day.

    Very sad to witness.

British Unionist views and Homophobic views being applauded. Disgusting what this once great blog has become.’

It says much about you and your warped outlook that you see an equivalence between homophobia and a refusal to support Scottish nationalism.

  9. DD & VP

iIs it not just the case that the type of posters you describe post more frequently? ie Few posters;many posts .Also, negativity makes a greater impact than positivity so maybe we remember those posts more strongly.

  10. FFS, .CQN is nothing like FF. I’ve seen some of the crap posted , courtesy of Turkeybhoy and Monaghan of this parish.

That is an exeragation too far.

  11. I suspect a debate of the type in which I have very little interest is about to develop so it is a

    cheerio from me.

  12. Greenpinata

At first reading, that looked like you were saying TB and M post crap !!

I didn`t agree but liked your honesty :-)))))

Also, I assume you know that ‘this once great blog’ is run by someone you would regard as a British Unionist ie someone who doesn’t fall for the stupidity of the SNP and their fellow travellers.

Tom Rogic has apparently rejected personal terms to move to Qatar

Which could mean he’s leaving, or could mean he’s staying.

    Which is it?

  15. Greenpinata.

    true I heard “bird”smuggling going on.😊

interestingly I also heard on r4 that Mahrez is under quarantine. at citeh. sad eh

I think today’s topic is interesting.

we don’t really know what each of our own clubs do as far as the strict testing regime goes I mean.i just assume it will be sound..but as Aberdeen and Boli show Iindividual chaos reigns when individuals interpret rules

we then have international matches were not only do we not know that international fa’s regime but with players travelling to and fro we are exporting our figures via this conduit as well as importing risk while players play for their countries and then come back.

The risk of cross contamination are řhere to see.

to me there is no need for these breaks.start locally and try and build.

hope you and your keeping safe.😊

  16. HS,

I glad you got the jist 😀

TB and M are respected contributors to this blog and regularly show us just how twisted the hun sites are.

  17. Ernie

Refuse to debate with someone as narrow minded and as stupid as you.

Desist from pigeon holing me and my views.

Stop making up bullshit and attributing those words to me. You do this consistently.

You are a truly despicable character Ernie.

  18. AN TEARMANN on 7TH SEPTEMBER 2020 5:37 PM

Hope you and yours are also well.

Your post deserves a much longer answer, unfortunately my phone is rapidly running out of juice.

    Cheers and HH.

  19. Restrictions on indoor household gatherings have been extended to two other local authority areas: Renfrewshire and East Dunbartonshire.

  20. Looking back, I now wish there had been more gays around when j was growing up.

In fact, had all the other guys been gay in my courting days, i would surely have enjoyed more success with the wimmin.

Boys these days have never had it so good

    I quoted your post verbatim.

    Here it is again.

‘CQN is becoming more like Follow Follow by the day.

    Very sad to witness.

British Unionist views and Homophobic views being applauded. Disgusting what this once great blog has become.’

How, specifically, have I misrepresented what you said?

If, on reflection, you realise that what you posted doesn’t accurately reflect your views then have the guts and humility to say so.

Now that’s a good post! It’s like lighting a candle from another candle.

The original loses nothing but the other helps shed light

and they both push back against the darkness.

  23. AN TEARMANN on 7TH SEPTEMBER 2020 4:03 PM

    Yip – he too.

And at least one Labour politician was not slow to demand that Rangers were the wronged party when they won a battle (not the war) in a Scottish court. How did this turn out Brian?

“Angry Labour MP Brian Donohoe, secretary of the Rangers Supporters Club at Westminster, said the tribunal ruling raised questions over the role of HMRC in damaging Rangers.

He added: “This disastrous case has led to a position where Rangers are languishing in the third division. That will not be forgotten. The fans will not forgive HMRC for that.

“There has to be an in-depth examination and debate about the role of HMRC.”

Donohoe said the fact the taxman had not won “a single case” against a football club showed there was “something fundamentally wrong” with HMRC’s approach.

So, I call on Brian Donohoe to demand an in-depth investigation and debate about the role of the Scottish Police and CPS.

  24. Ernie Lynch

You are very disingenuous. Always have been.

Last I will communicate with you.

You offer zero to a Celtic blog.

    You make my skin crawl.

Detest characters like you and your alter ego JHB.

Pair of trolls. No more oxygen from me.

Have never enjoyed one exchange with you.

I realise why you have no friends on this site.

    Celtic man my arse.

  25. There are those on here who are posting lies & malicious gossip and hiding behind a sanctimonious persona than they are clearly unworthy of.

Frank Terry & his hangers on are peddling stuff from the gutter in order to smear me & others.

They take this course of action because they don’t like being challenged in what has become an SNP comfort zone on CQN. Celtic is NOT an SNP club, nor, are the majority of its supporters. The SNP are destroying the fabric and the spirit of Scotland & some of our kind support them only to “stick it to the huns” This is shameful, but totally wrong, and I will draw attention to it when I can – it’s too important not to.

The outrage regarding Swinney and the SNP’s compulsory sex education is available below & on many other newspapers & web sites. The report below was based on a public meeting packed with concerned parents & grandparents, & was never challenged by the SNP. It makes horrendous reading Would you like to think that when your children & grandchildren are in school, out of your loving care, that they are being taught this?

My take on Neil Lennon is the same as tens of thousands of other Celtic supporters. We are 100% behind him and abhor all the sectarian abuse he has suffered, and we will always see him as legend and one of our own.

However as manager of the football team, the buck stops with him when performances falter & team selections seem perplexing –

we must be free to criticize.

Constantly conflating isolated strategic & tactical football decisions with the worst aspects of his personal abuse is at best, mistaken, & at worst, illiterate.

So I say to those of you who print & support this disgusting gossip to cease & desist.

Unconstrained conversation or reports about other people, typically involving details which cannot be confirmed as true.

This blog is open to all, just like our club. The hatred, vitriol & downright lies has to stop.

I’m supposed to be on a week’s holiday, however when I let my daughter & her husband see the abuse directed at me over the past two weeks, they were shocked that it could happen on a Celtic site. They insisted I answered it in my own “inimitable way”

Disagree with me ’till the cows come home – rebut with your own facts – but leave your bile where it belongs.

  26. onenightinlisbon on

Just logged in to catch up on the Celtic chat for today….think I missed it. Political garbage again……

Maybe time for Paul to rename the place, take the Celtic out though for sure…

  27. When the Pope made his statement on the dangers of gossip, I wonder if he’d been lurking on here of late?!

    Surely not

I don’t know if you saw my reply to Hot Smoked on Sat night but if not it might interest you (but feel free to skip and same goes for anyone not interested!)

The reason I put up the list of of JHB’s quotes is to inform those who are unaware of what he is really about. If I were a new poster and felt tempted to reply to him seeing those quotes would make me realise it was a waste of time. If anyone else wants to engage with him that is entirely up to them – I ignore his posts and don’t comment on any conversations he is involved in.

Now if JHB wants to report me to Paul67 then he is free to do so. But consider this: I am not insulting him all I am doing is reminding the blog of what he has posted in the past. If our host wishes me to leave then you won’t hear from me again… however I suspect Paul67 (as a young and tech savvy guy) would take one look at those quotes from JHB, come to the same conclusion as I have and tell him to GTF (well, he’s probably more polite than I am but that would be the gist of it). Incidentally, this is why JHB won’t go to Paul67 in a million years but will instead claim he is being bullied to elicit sympathy from other posters – another classic troll behaviour.

Some relevant info. My wife is a teacher as are a few of my friends and family. My sister-in-law was pretty shaken up last year after an aggressive parent had a go at her for ‘teaching porn’. Complete nonsense of course and she explained to the parent the reality of the situation but nonetheless it was a particularly unpleasant experience which she should never have had to go through. The extreme right wing propaganda that JHB (and the legion of trolls that populate the internet) spout has real life consequences for those who have to deal with the fall out. SFTB recommended a book – Anti Social by Andrew Marantz – which is an informative read on what is going on in that shady world.

That’s my last word on it, apart from posting those quotes any time JHB deigns to grace us with his presence on a new blog – I am the leader of the Troll Hunter C.S.C after all (Provisionals – we have recently split).

    Take care and Hail Hail.
