Uefa’s Nations League, a competition too far

There is every chance you do not know if tonight’s Czech Republic – Scotland game is competitive or a friendly (it’s Nations League, so somewhere in-between), but, like me, you will be concerned that during European qualification, several Celtic players will take the field against the remaining Czechs who have not tested positive for Covid.

This disease has an incubation period of up to 14 days.  The Czechs have lost their first team due to infection and we now roll the dice hoping there has been no cross-contamination around Czech football circles in recent days.

Nothing about this is right.  The Nations League should have been one of the many things we have sacrificed due to the pandemic.  It required international travel and sporting bubbles to be mix.  What happened to the Czechs following their win over Slovakia on Friday will have consequences for both nations and for clubs across the continent.  I know the SFA are far from competent at most things, but the issue here lies at Uefa.

  1. Struggling against this cobbled together outfit. Putting ourselves under pressure with stupid unnecessary fouls. 15 attempts on goal by Czechs against 5 for Schottland.

  2. This has got to be up there with Levein’s Scotland team…….feekin dire. I’m having to get pashed on a school night to watch this

  3. All Away teams still In Play are leading and the one game completed was an Away victory.

I wonder if Big jimmy had a go on that one !!

Why does Provan think the Czechs would tire , they are two games into their league and any of our English based are pre season😱😵😵

I have always considered it a myth that players tire. I know there are differences but top Marathon runners can keep the same pace throughout.I believe most footballers are the same.

I feel the same re Match fitness. I am sure I read somewhere that there is no evidence to support the oft held view that players need matches to `get up to speed`.

  6. Israel 0 Slovakia 1

    Czech 1 Scotland 2

    n.i 1 Norway 5

    Bosnia 1 Poland 2

    Aus 1 Romania 2

    Holland 0 Italy 1

    Albania 0 Lithuania 1

  7. Czechs attacking with 9 players. Scotland repeatedly foul players going away from goal. Sheer madness. We arenow desperately hanging on.

  8. I have fractionally more interest in the Czech/Scotland game than I have in the Albania/Lithuania one. A very small fraction.

  9. For my sins watched Norn Irn get humped by the big Vikings..

Big Ajer is a beautiful big CH and under-appreciated by the blood and snotter brigade in our support. In cruise control.

Moi was clever. Lovely footballer and brain. Some wasted play but looked sharp.

Halaand is a beast and scored a beauty.

Worst player on the park was Steven Davis. Dreadful.

Is it over and can we get back to SPFL now?

I thought Clarke would have brought some organization to the team but nope that looked Sunday league where whoever got a game wasn’t pished last night.

Was his success due to lino…..q bankiebhoy😂

  11. So on International break, goals for the Celts …

Duffy, Elyounoussi, Christie (2 – both pens) and Eddy (2 – both pens)

Eddy has now scored 13 in 8 games for French U21s – how much is he worth now ?

  12. Christie took a kick but he will ok

We desperately needed a winger in there and not to play 3 at the back with not enough up front to press. All you have to do is play it over the midfield or in our case , pass it through a flat line marking no one

    Sore head now

  13. Dire Scotland no show once again!

Christie shows lack of fitba heid by not playing Calmac in.

They should give this up and try tiddlywinks.
