UnCommons Moneyball gem

857

Someone made the point to me over the weekend, 30 goals, and counting, from midfield, rivals 53 from Henrik Larsson as a central striker.  It is an unnecessary burden to compare Kris Commons to Celtic’s greatest player in four decades, even Henrik couldn’t compare to the memory of Henrik, but the history books will show for decades to come, Kris Commons is a rare gem, a Celtic player for the ages.

He’s the definition of a Moneyball player, he’s a great multiple Player of the Year and he’s ours.

Enjoy watching him.

Issue 20 of CQN Magazine, CQLisboN is out and enjoying great reviews. You can check it out here, for free, now….

I’m a big fan of Kris Commons.

I think Celtic already have his replacement in the squad as well in Teemu Pukki, I could see him fitting into the KC role with ease. He is also a very clever player.

Although, I reckon KC will play more games than Pukki next season, I expect he will be rested a bit more to keep him sharp.

    Ernie,

Harston wasn’t a Celtic player when henke had his 50 odd goal season. But I get your point.

If he could just move to that next level of confidence……he has something, just needs to be drawn out of him,…..some great moves recently

Some players take longer to settle. I think Pukki comes into that bracket. But I am confident the boy can be a big star at Celtic in that role which KC has at the moment.

Very, very harsh comment on the Scottishvplayer of the year.

A bit like if Celtic had any good Celtic players they wouldn’t be playing for Celtic.

    ################################################################

That last sentence is beautifully put. It absolutely makes my blood boil to hear that kind of sentiment expressed by Celtic supporters , of all people.

Maybe we don’t have the money that the most successful teams of the moment have

but that needn’t stop us having the mindset they have. Believe and become.

How are the top six in the EPL competing with European opposition?

I was going to say that with Hartson and Sutton to occupy the minds of defenders, a case could be made that it was then easier for Henrik to find space. However, Geordie`s information dilutes my point. I suppose you are saying that Henrik was a better player than Kris. You will struggle to find anyone disagreeing. Paul, I suspect, was just trying to emphasise how excellent Kris` goal scoring has been this season,

That’s when motors were motors. My first one was a Mark 2 cortina.

That’s when floodlights were floodlights. How do you get the current ones on a subbuteo pitch? It’s great to see the new lights at the National Hockey Centre at Glasgow Green. Those are real floodlights.

  15. When KC used his girth to hold off the Aberdeen defender then chip the keeper I thought I was watching Kenny Moravcik.

  16. glendalystonsils – it makes your blood boil to hear a Celtic supporter saying that our player of the year shines in Scotland but lacks the speed and athleticism required to play at a higher level? Gosh, apologies for upsetting you. I’ll refrain from further upsetting you by saying anything else about the team we both love.

  17. Now that Norwich look like being relegated, I think Snodgrass may be on his way to set up a winning combo with KC next season.

The other gem I picked up last night was the Graceless Dead were a tad upset that Sevco failed to beat “Celtic’s record” when they didn’t win at Dunfermline on Saturday.

  19. Should be an interesting close season:

Gk: Foster (very likely away), Zaluska (back up)

we’ll need a new number one

    ………………………………………………….

Def: Ambrose, Van dijk (one more season me thinks), O’Connell, Fraser (back up), mulgrew and lustig (can play in there)

Out: Mouyokolo, Findley (loaned out again me thinks)

4 established players and 2 or 3 good young players = enough cover me think

    ………………………………………………….

Fullback: Izaguirre and lustig (last year of contract, get it sorted celtic), Mathews (battle with lustig for start), Charmers (back up to izzy) mulgrew as required

Out: fisher (like the boy, but think he’ll be away this close season),

    enough cover in here

    ……………………………………………….

Mid: Brown (is he entering last year of contract?), f. Twardzik, Henderson (making breakthrough), johansen, biton (staying), Commons (sign up on new longer deal celtic), herron (will still around), Forrest (injury problems hurting his progress, will still be here next season), mulgew ( as required)

Out: kayal (don’t see him here next season), Irvine (out) mcgeouch (out), George (don’t think so), Rogic (will be off), Derk B (any half decent offer and he’ll be off)

well covered with enough space for the younger players, could be doing with more pace and creativity in attacking 3rd

    ……………………………………………….

Att: stokes, Griffiths (established first teamers) Johnstone, Fridjonsson (more chances next season),

Out: Sammy (off), Pukki, balde (any half decent offer and he’ll be off), Watt, Atajic, P Twardzik (see you all later)

    One quality forward required

    ……………………………………………….

By my reckoning we will see anything up to 14 players (all be it some younger ones) out the door and will need 3 quality players coming the other way!!!!!!!

    We shall see

Would we want Gary Hooper back at Celtic ? I think he has been found wanting in the EPL the step up was to much for him. We now have Leigh Griffiths who for me is the better of the two players and for me players going back to an old club seldom works. For me Garys time at Celtic has come and gone. H.H.

It would be the perfect time to sell Kris Commons. Great advertisement . 30 goals. He does not play for Scotland which must be attractive to clubs with a higher income and in 8 months he will be a free agent.

So how much do you think we can get for him this summer

  26. KC has been sensational this year , in fact apart from one season, a sensational signing.

The money spent on KC was similar to that of Lubo and for my money has been every bit as good as the wonderful Slovakian.

Not only has he been magic on the park he and Lisa have been magic off the park.

A True CELT in every sense of the word.

A credit to his family and it is our pleasure he loves playing for us!

    Afternoon CQNrs,

I’m heading of on a wee holiday on Wednesday. I was wondering if any of you know a good Celtic bar in the Bodrum area of Turkey.

Seems to be a few on the net, but i would like a recommendation. Been stung before, go to a bar to watch the Celtic game only to find the English football on and no chance of watching the hoops. Makes my blood boil!
