Kris Boyd’s post-match tirade on Sunday was arresting. He was angry and, just after fulltime, his thoughts tumbled out in an unstructured manner. You seldom see such vociferous anger on television outside of the drama genre. I don’t recall ever seeing it from a sports presenter.
Not long after getting home from such an emphatic victory, this was like sugar on the doughnut to complete the afternoon’s entertainment. Later on, I felt a bit guilty. Boyd wasn’t right in being so forthright and it wasn’t right for me to enjoy the show.
When a SkySports professional displays uncontained anger, it normalises this behaviour. Others feel permitted to get angry, some may even think that anger is appropriate and that they are obliged to get angry to show how much they care.
Later on Sunday, when the Newco players returned to Ibrox, they were met by a very angry mob. Board members who have put millions of pounds into the club, players who have to motivate themselves for the coming games, and a manager who is sitting on a new gold-plated contract, were roundly abused.
As a Celtic fan, it is clear how unproductive this is. Celtic cannot do as much damage to Newco as angry and uncontained Newco ‘fans’.
Whatsit to us? You and I can acknowledge this is not normal, it is not healthy and it is not an example to us, whenever/if ever we inevitably drop from our run of trebles and titles. It is not Celtic, it is not even the Rangers I remember from the magnificent early 80s [the 70s was another era], it is a new and ugly phenomenon [Neil Lennon might suggest it’s not absolutely new].
Kris Boyd possibly doesn’t know better. His parting line on the programme, about his wife having a lot to deal with that night, was clearly an innocent joke at his own expense. But the joke formed in Kris’s head, as another thought formed in mine, that uncontained male anger has very ugly consequences in a domestic environment. If you whip up hundreds of thousands of football fans, someone, somewhere, will pay a price.
If uncontained anger about football is your thing, you will be able to fill your boots most weeks. It is ugly, and anyone who thinks it is acceptable needs to have a look at themself.

Hail hail ghuys- back in the US.
7 hours sleep last night and feeling good.
Are the Rangers coming?
Get in TEXASTIM!!
What a wonderful long weekend that was and the only person that wet the bed was Tav Pen.
You picked a rare weekend to visit good sir.

I posted on Sunday that Sky needs to look at Boyd’s performance as he overstepped the mark from professional (I know) pundit to uber fan
Well said Paul67,
It shows how effective the aul bread n’circuses is…
Speaking for myself, I can get overwrought during and just after a game but to be unable to check your emotions and put things in proper perspective pretty quickly is hugely unhealthy in many aspects
Of course Alcohol doesn’t help…
We seem to be veering away from the “old firm” model… not soon enough to my way of thinking
Scotland needs a strong Aberdeen
Hail Hail
we should have loaned someone to dundee.

Boyd like many are not prepared to take the medicine which we took during the WGS years.
Our beloved MON didn’t fancy it much nor did Sutton himself or BBJ but it was a reality despite the extravagant behaviour across the city.
I saw this from both sides as a sponsor of both clubs. One took a pragmatic approach to a glass ceiling and the other battered itself to death on it.
The result from 2005 to their demise was only 4 titles to them vs 3 to us. We also achieved a last 16 in CL twice to their once.
Their scenario now is much more parlous. They have no option and we do now have money they never had even then.
Good governance on our side sees us the right side of FFP which is another crippling challenge.
Whatever folk say about our suits they have played this long game well.

In a 70s film, “The Big Clubs” , Willie Waddell stated that after a defeat, Rangers fans would go home and “bash” their wives.
Like you, I did laugh at Boyd’s ranting but didn’t hear the comment about his wife.
However I have questioned previously why he should be allowed to keep his job commenting on Celtic and his own team when he shown quite clearly that he cannot comment in an unbiased manner.
The fact that he has shown his rage in such a way should lead to his removal from that position.
Stupidity and ignorance are not excuses for him.
AN TEARMANN @ 11:43 AM,
Thanks for the comment, hopefully you’ll be fully aware that I like to be educated and the facts and knowledge you bring is very much appreciated
Just for clarity…
The population thing came from my school history teacher, but I’ve read it a few times since
The population of England – 5 mn
The population of Ireland – 7 mn
Think it was the Tudor times…
Just before James the Sixth and his planters.
Eight Hundred Years was not a random number:)
Also it was immigrant that I was addressing during the “labelling”
The Linguistics of the invaders not always to my liking
My son says we have DNA tracing back to “Ulster” 4,500 years ago…
Imagine there’s no countries, it’s easy if you try…
Thanks Ahain
Hail Hail
I should have said massive credit to WGS for what he did achieve in that era. Given the tools he had it was incredible. We only lost one league under him and the reality was we did blow that from a position of great strength unfortunately. Of their 4 league wins in 2005-12 there were 3 on the last day of the season.
With cheerleaders like Boyd they will never accept the need to take the medicine. It’s like he is telling alcoholics it’s not a problem and they should carry on having a few beers. Terrible really terrible but not unlike what some were saying about us back in 2006 after we lost to Motherwell at home. Or Sutton after Bratislava etc. A dose of reality is not always what fans want.
It is where Celtic Quick News started ! Where has that Seville Money gone.
kenny miller and mccann,
both have had outrageus temper tantrums about celtic winning these games while “the rangers” got wrongly disallowed goals.
mccoist and sourpuss the same.
feck the lot of them.
celtic according to stats , have won 5 games at home against something called rangers for the first time since john greigs 1980 side.
kyogo now has 74 goals for celtic, 8 of them against rangers,
he hopefully will hit the 100 goals this season,

Hoping for loss to Aberdeen mid to late October to mirror last year and lead to a further annual change of management structure across the city.
Dropping points at Dundee U or losing to Dundee a week later, then Malmo and possibly Lyon at home / Hampden really will pile it on and a trip to Aberdeen or a loss at Killie might just see the big Belgian put out of his misery.
Burnley, at this moment I sincerely hope they do NOT put Baldemort out of his misery. To this weak and shallow Fenian his unravelling is quite delicious.
He reminds me more and more of the ‘Portuguese James Bond’, senhor Caixinha of former Ayebrokes fame, with his bizarre utterances. My favourite from Sunday was not the references to their greatest result in four years against the behemoth that is Ross County, nor the list of chances and shots similar to those of Celtic; it was when he said that things were not black and white between the teams, they were more grey – then added as an afterthought “Well, maybe dark grey”!
Lovely stuff and there’s more, much more, to come I’m sure. Please let it be so.
Ave Ave
Sunday proved Boyd is totally unfit to cover any future Celtic games.
The Sun Online implying we are at it,as ‘Forrest and Taylor finished Sunday’s game with no apparent injuries ‘
I hope Kwon can fill the gap left by Hibs’ failure to land Luke.
The whole thing might work out well for us.
BTW AN TEARMANN…
When my G.G.Grandad and G.Grandad landed in Anderston – it was actually in Lanarkshire
Also my G.Grandad had a brother, same name and same year of birth as a Founding Father, need to research it further but think my great great uncle was born in Derry and the founding father in Glasgow…
Hail Hail
Taylor got a few batterings on Sunday.
Jamesie should follow Callum’s example.
Neither Gregg nor Jamsie would be in the starting line-up
What larks – Paul 67
The , the, the Rainjurz are coming 😂
What happened to the Butland money?
GGHS
I understand your concern re Boyd bias but for me the longer he is not buying into a project that is essential for them to survive then the better for us that he is visible and influencing their punters. The more seeds of dissent and apathy this guy sows the more murmurings of discontent there will be.
Personally I would hate them the see through their strategy and get even close to us anytime soon but they have had to make bold moves to comply with FFP and they have a mess to clear up post Bisgrove. They have a guy with little experience of running anything operational, never mind football, at the helm. They have a plan which few of their fanbase appreciate. The more Boyd and his like demand better for the ranjurs the better for us imo.
here billy,
aye sammy,
can you get on the phone now and order the steel for next season
Monster Munch must stay 👍
BOURNESOUPRECIPE @ 12:40 PM,
At least we know what happened to (some of) the O’Riley money:))
Hail Hail
Very peculiar Boyd has carved himself this role as the voice of Scottish footfall for Sky. He is very rarely insightful and very often incoherent.
he reminds me of Alex re when he used to partner Kevin’s on Clyde.
Contrast and compare with the wit, intelligence and insightfulness of Sutton . Fot my money, the best pundit on the TV att he moment
Kris Boyd. Herman Munster without his intellect.
There were guys on the rangers rabble who were more coherent and professional than Kris Boyd.
Petrov looked very ill at ease sitting in the same room. Simply awful from Sky Sports.
CHAIRBHOY
Sevco getting it from all Engels 👍 we’ll be back to cheese puns on here, soon.

Apposite piece P67.
This entitled acting out isn’t only confined to TRFC devotees. It’s now a firm feature of political rammies from Washington to the Wirral. Thon US guy noted with an interest in buying THEMS – Galloway – notes that social media runs on rage. Society’s going that way too. Sadly I can’t really see it being windback-able.
Elated as I am with our trifecta; Euro draw, Hun smashing and Player trades, I actually felt a bit for Capn Tav when I saw the abuse he was getting from a few trogs. Way worse than what PL was copping from his taunter at the St Mirren game.
All fun and games til someone loses an eye.

Well said Paul.
Arrogance, ignorance and a sense of entitlement.
Becoming normalised as you say.
I believe it’s an Internet age thingy.
The absolute right to sound off.
Was always there to a degree but, before, people went in to the proverbial dark room.
Now they share it with the world. Bizarre.

The Sun Online implying we are at it,as ‘Forrest and Taylor finished Sunday’s game with no apparent injuries ‘

Just some ignorant, low level stirring to appease a certain demographic.
Greg – who had a fine game – was clearly struggling in the last 5 or 6 minutes.
Choirboy
Good to see you still sowing your seeds of disharmony.
Our financial position is transparent. Unlike others you will be acquainted with.
True enough. We all play our part.
Did we really win that game because of the age gap?According to the Belgian mastermind -we did.
Lest we forget – we had our own pitchfork situ during the covid season following home defeat to Ross County.
Entitlement again?
Everyone gets beat. Even Perry Mason.
As far as our entitlement goes?
If you buy a ticket – when you present it at the turnstile a wee green light comes, you get in and the seat number on your ticket is yours for the game.
…. and that’s it.
