Kris Boyd’s post-match tirade on Sunday was arresting. He was angry and, just after fulltime, his thoughts tumbled out in an unstructured manner. You seldom see such vociferous anger on television outside of the drama genre. I don’t recall ever seeing it from a sports presenter.
Not long after getting home from such an emphatic victory, this was like sugar on the doughnut to complete the afternoon’s entertainment. Later on, I felt a bit guilty. Boyd wasn’t right in being so forthright and it wasn’t right for me to enjoy the show.
When a SkySports professional displays uncontained anger, it normalises this behaviour. Others feel permitted to get angry, some may even think that anger is appropriate and that they are obliged to get angry to show how much they care.
Later on Sunday, when the Newco players returned to Ibrox, they were met by a very angry mob. Board members who have put millions of pounds into the club, players who have to motivate themselves for the coming games, and a manager who is sitting on a new gold-plated contract, were roundly abused.
As a Celtic fan, it is clear how unproductive this is. Celtic cannot do as much damage to Newco as angry and uncontained Newco ‘fans’.
Whatsit to us? You and I can acknowledge this is not normal, it is not healthy and it is not an example to us, whenever/if ever we inevitably drop from our run of trebles and titles. It is not Celtic, it is not even the Rangers I remember from the magnificent early 80s [the 70s was another era], it is a new and ugly phenomenon [Neil Lennon might suggest it’s not absolutely new].
Kris Boyd possibly doesn’t know better. His parting line on the programme, about his wife having a lot to deal with that night, was clearly an innocent joke at his own expense. But the joke formed in Kris’s head, as another thought formed in mine, that uncontained male anger has very ugly consequences in a domestic environment. If you whip up hundreds of thousands of football fans, someone, somewhere, will pay a price.
If uncontained anger about football is your thing, you will be able to fill your boots most weeks. It is ugly, and anyone who thinks it is acceptable needs to have a look at themself.

Did we really win that game because of the age gap?According to the Belgian mastermind -we did.
——
Really good point BJB.
Do we know if the average age stat is accurate?
Even if we assume it is?
Take our goalkeeper out of the equation and our outfield average age is 26.
I really do think Sky should be concerned with what was an almost out of control, illogical, rant from Boyd. He’s supposed to be semi-balanced (its not Rangers TV) and at least try to act rationally. He’s probably not the world’s brightest but his post-match behaviour was not helpful and would have some viewers in England dismayed. Paul’s leader makes some excellent points.
“The syrup” was no stranger to a volcanic temper in his younger days but age, as it does with us all, has mellowed him a little. Still capable of spouting Lillian Gish but not to the same degree Kris Boyd.
I do feel sorry for TavNot of the religious persuasion the mob would favour, but of course, they don’t care about that now🤔.He has never shown any Hunnnish traits in his time there.Comes across as a quiet, respectful guy on any interviews.Never seen him assault,(Tackle ) any of our players.
He was once a fearsome attacking RB with a wonderful cross, made up for his defensive frailties, now only the latter the more prevalent.Time catches up on us all.
Not an iota of” Staunchness” about the boy,so difficult for me to ridicule.Nothing to do with him the amount of penalties his team were awarded.

Correct it was all the supporters asked for, another cheap Bolingoli for a Tierney was avoided.
Higher net spend isn’t too much to ask for, with the unique bank balance we still have.

Yep, I agree with that Paul.
I take a lot of pleasure in seeing rangers fail and 2012 is still a great memory for me but I do recall my Mother telling me you shouldn’t take pleasure from other people’s sadness. She doesn’t analyse the game like we do though.
The one biting aspect surrounding this is the lack of reality and perspective their supporters have. A lot of that is driven by their old club history but also by the owners since 2012. All of them talked up their place, showed no humility or apology and as a result made no attempt to build a sustainable business.
When Fergus was in charge every year I listened to Tommy Burns talk about building gradually, signing players short and long term but trying to calm all the 9iar talk. The opposite is true of them.
They should be telling their fans they need to strip the club down, reduce the wage bill considerably, buy some scottish players and look at ways to grow. They’ve had 12 years starting debt free.
It’s incredible how poorly run a business they are.
Wonderful.
Sorry, Mum.
Aw, c,mon?.Why would anyone want the idiot Boyd off our screens. We are due many more meltdowns from him this coming season.Sky know this. They show his meltdowns from time to time. The latest,Kiev goals.
Idiots, bigots like him,Souness,Ferguson, the total opposite,of the guy I mentioned in my last post, deserve their attitudes to be broadcast.Dumb, bigots, hurting like hell.

Hail Hail
Mazzy; I agree with there ‘should be concern’ from Sky re Boyd but my cynical inner punk knows Boyd’s performative rage is social media catnip; it gets shared and days later punters are still searching for Sky-branded clips with the rugged buffoon on an argumentative bender. Media loves these polarising performers given their ability to channel the shallow emotions felt across the puntershpere. KB is the sports version of a ‘shock jock’ these days. Mortifying stuff.

Lest we forget – we had our own pitchfork situ during the covid season following home defeat to Ross County.
Entitlement again?
Everyone gets beat. Even Perry Mason.
As far as our entitlement goes?
If you buy a ticket – when you present it at the turnstile a wee green light comes, you get in and the seat number on your ticket is yours for the game.
…. and that’s it.
……………………………
I don’t think you’re totally accurate. During the Covid season, Celtic fans sold out the ground knowing that they wouldn’t be going through the turnstile to sit on their seat.
The events following the game against Ross County were awful as you say and didn’t reflect well on the supporters who participated in them. There was a lot of anger at the time. Some of it due to the frustrations of not being able to attend games, a lot due to the dual aspects of players we knew who were unhappy and wanting to leave and who appeared not to be giving 100% and also our manager who many felt was no longer fit for purpose at the time. The fans felt, in my opinion, that if they were in the stadium then the players and manager would be more accountable but because of the Covid ban on attendance they felt impotent to do anything about it. We all knew our players were underperforming. It didn’t excuse the behaviour though.
Rangers on the other hand have been trying to change their trading model. They have been successful in reducing their wage bill by getting big name players to leave the club. Bennett, their Chairman, said publicly that they could no longer afford to attract players who otherwise would not come to Scotland, by paying them inflated salaries that they were not worth and would not leave because they could not attract a similar level of salary in other leagues. He effectively told their fans that they would be adopting a similar recruitment approach to Celtic’s ‘Project’ model. He also more or less told them that their situation would get worse before it got better and that there would be some painful times ahead.
The more cerebral Rangers fans – even on FF – understood this. Many of them wrote off their chances for this season hoping for a Cup win at best and realised that they would probably be competing for second place in the league. They were not looking forward to the visit to Celtic Park on Sunday.
After all that and with the evidence of their own eyes, having seen their lack of success against Celtic year on year since 2016 apart from their purple patch during 2019/20, why on earth are they going into an unbridled rage over their defeat to Celtic at the weekend when the only thing in their favour was the match and VAR officials? To me their entitlement is off the scale. I think it is a constant sense of entitlement and a constant rage which shows no sign of abating.
I hope the Celtic fans who tried to get at the players on that terrible day had an aberration and that it will never be repeated again. I feel confident that most of our fans realise that we can’t always win and you’ve just got to accept that there are games that we will lose, sometimes unexpectedly, but you have just got to grin and bear it and get on with life.
As I watched the look on Luke McCowan’s face when he came onto the field on Sunday, I was very proud. I don’t know the kid from Adam, but he is living the dream and you can see it all over his face. reminds me of the ritual performed every Saturday as a kid, Waiting outside the Cross Keys looking for the big Wilson Double decker bus to come to a halt, and the mass of humanity barge out the front doors and assume their rightful place on the bus. The young maddies would spring upstairs while my auld man and his good friends would sit down stairs and then decide who was going to start for Celtic today. I was not allowed upstairs until a few years later. I would listen to great Celtic men like Big Davie McFeely, looked like a taller Charlie Bronson, Sean Sweeney, great Celtic mhan, John Brennan, with as thick an Irish accent you could find, and my auld man, wee Myles. We would be leaving Wishy Cross on a Saturday.packed with people on the streets as it was market day and the Huns used to hang around the cross and sometimes throw objects at the bus. Poor Stead and Simpsons shoe store would have their outside shoes launched at the bus:))) The maddies upstairs giving it laldy with the Reb tunes and the victory salutes to those unfortunates ootside. We would get to Paradise and it didnae matter what the time was, the auld man and his mates had to go to the Springfield Vaults. They would all give me money so as I wouldn’t tell their wives, or my adopted aunties that we were left outside another pub n Glesga. Then we would make our way to the Auld rangers End and Aisle 14, halfway down. I would look over to the Jungle with such jealousy. There are 3 times in my young life when you achieve graduation and it has nothing to do with School.
1. When you are old enough to go upstairs on the bus and sing to your hearts content.
2. When you are old enough to go to the games by yourself, and make your way into the Jungle, navigating the pish stained stairs, till you find that perfect place that will only get disrupted when the Bhoys score a goal and you end up twenty yards away from where you were first standing.
3. When you can go to Mass by yourself on a Sunday, usually 6pm on A sunday night as that’s when all the young folks hungover from the night before, courtesy of the Keys, the Stag, Harveys,or some other delightful place where beautiful young Wishy Ghirls hung out.
The memories that being a Celtic fan can give you. I remember the Polis stopping our bus down at Wishyhill and telling us we all had to get off as it was overcrowded, which it always was:))) Big Davie, our bus convener, pissed the polis off by making us march all the way up the Hill to the Keys in columns of twos, singing as we marched. The people on the streets were dying laughing as the Polis didn’t know what to do.
Being a Celtic supporter doesn’t always guarantee success, but it always guarantees happiness my friends.
Hail Hail and sorry for the long drivel.
Sean
GENE. Yes. As a St Mungo’s F.P. we were well versed in the history of Kentigern/Mungo. The full version is apparently taken from one of his sermons, although I never saw it applied to Celtic until the Green Brigade TIFO.

That Willie Waddell quote was the first thing I thought of when I read the Article.
Shows that the Neanderthals haven’t changed in any way.
Their representatives/ cheerleaders in the media ( and they have long since given up any pretence of impartiality ) react in one of two ways to adversity:-
Anger and entitlement – cf Boyd above and McCoist in years gone by demanding to know who sat on
confidential panels
and / or
demanding that rules/ systems which apply throughout the football world be changed – eg Hutton and Macgregor calling for the rule on VAR not being allowed to review yellow cards after their CL qualifying debacle or McCoist ( today on Talksport) calling for the Scottish Football to be completely reviewed given its current “state”.
Open to correction but I don’t recall any such calls in the 80’s and 90’s when Rangers ( RIP) were rampaging
their tax avoiding way to title after title.

—————–
Kentigern (Welsh: Cyndeyrn Garthwys; Latin: Kentigernus), known as Mungo, was a missionary in the Brittonic Kingdom of Strathclyde in the late sixth century, and the founder and patron saint of the city of Glasgow.
Name
In Wales and England, this saint is known by his birth and baptismal name Kentigern (Welsh: Cyndeyrn). This name probably comes from the British *Cuno-tigernos, which is composed of the elements *cun, a hound, and *tigerno, a lord, prince, or king. The evidence is based on the Old Welsh record Conthigirn(i).[2] Other etymologies have been suggested, including British *Kintu-tigernos ‘chief prince’ based on the English form Kentigern, but the Old Welsh form above and Old English Cundiʒeorn do not appear to support this.[3]
Particularly in Scotland, he is known by the pet name Mungo, possibly derived from the Cumbric equivalent of the Welsh: fy nghu ‘my dear (one)’.[4] The Mungo pet name or hypocorism has a Gaelic parallel in the form Mo Choe or Mo Cha, under which guise Kentigern appears in Kirkmahoe, for example, in Dumfriesshire, which appears as ecclesia Sancti Kentigerni in the Arbroath Liber in 1321. An ancient church in Bromfield, Cumbria, is named after him, as are Crosthwaite Parish Church and some other churches in the northern part of Cumbria, for example St Mungo’s Church, Dearham.

It’s the rabid rage spewing out the mouths of imbeciles that gets me (I’m talking about that rabble who were waiting outside ibrox here)
Not one of them could run a medium size business, deliver a construction project, pass a coaching course or last 10 minutes of a R2ngers first team fitness session without throwing up.
Knuckle dragging morons with an unfathomable sense of supremacy.
What do they bring to the party?
“You’re sh**e !”
“You’re a pr**k !”
“You’re no good enough !”
“Ah pay your wages”
…. all at 80 decibels.
Empty vessels.
Just because Kris Boyd is a committed Rangers fan doesn’t make him a bigot. There really is an unhealthy attitude to everything Rangers within our support and it spills over here. I read comments about Rangers players deliberately trying to injure Kyogo and Maeda. I saw both incidents and one was a foul, acknowledged by the ref who correctly let the game go, and one wasn’t even a foul, just a poor player arriving late to win the ball. Boyd needs to control himself when he’s live on TV, but it’s probably difficult when Sutton is constantly at the wind-up. I find their pain amusing but frankly pay no attention to them unless they’re playing us.
Thought the Bhoys were outstanding on Sunday with many contenders for MOTM. Scales may have just edged it for me, but Kasper, Callum, Maeda. Bernardo and Kyogo were brilliant. BR has got this team purring. Let’s focus on the Celtic and let the Rangers keep doing what they’re doing.
