Underestimating teams in August, win Walfrid hospitality tomorrow

923

You and I have enough recent experience to know teams we’ve never heard of, or know little about, cannot be underestimated when it comes to European football.  We should expect, and will get, a very difficult game tomorrow.

The good news is that Hapoel Beer Shiva have lost goals in three consecutive matches after a solid defensive run which saw them keep 8 clean sheets in 12 games.  But they scored four while conceding in two of those games, the only reversal coming at home to Ashdod in the League Cup last midweek.

They shut up shop away from home in their two earlier Champions League qualifying rounds at Sheriff in Moldova after a narrow 3-2 home win, they kept out Olympiakos before winning the return 1-0 in the last round.

Unlike in previous years, we are not facing a team midseason in the playoff round; Hapoel have had a few cup games but will not open their league season until Saturday.

Hospitality for 3 people at Celtic-Hapoel Beer Shiva at Walfrid Restaurant

Celtic sponsor, Intelligent Car Leasing, have given us three tickets for fantastic hospitality at the Walfrid Restaurant, before, during and after tomorrow’s night’s Champions League qualifier.  This is another money can’t buy opportunity for three people to watch Celtic in a hugely important game in sumptuous comfort.

Anyone can enter the competition, however, as this prize of so incredible, I’d like everyone who enters to donate a recommended £10 to the good work of the Celtic Foundation.

You can donate at this MyDonate page.

The Celtic Foundation work to improve Health, promote Equality, encourage Learning and tackle Poverty (H.E.L.P.) in Scotland, the rest of the UK and Ireland, and worldwide.  It’s your Foundation, you built and maintain its good work.

A few guidelines for the raffle:

Raffle closes at 21:00 BST TONIGHT, so there’s not a lot of time and I’m not expecting many entries.  You will not be entered into the competition if you donate or apply afterwards.

Enter with an email address you are going to check later tonight or early tomorrow, add a phone number, if you like.

You can enter two ways:

By making a recommended £10 donation to Celtic FC Foundation here.  Then email me at celticquicknews@gmail.com with Walfrid in the subject line, to make sure I can get in touch with you.

Or

By emailing me the names of every Celtic shirt sponsor and official kit manufacturer.  Ever. To celticquicknews@gmail.com

One of the above will be pretty easy for most of us.  The other will be pretty difficult.  Do the easy one.

Great prize.  Only open for a few hours so there will be little competition.  Go for it!

Thank you, and thanks to Intelligent Car Leasing for supporting our fundraising efforts.

Sorry that should read “Now you can be jailed for the waving of a flag”

As for those like Mikeybhoy who think Celtic Football Club is more important than Human Rights & Free Speech, I really do feel sorry for you.

Just able to stand it in the garden (26 degrees C). In for another cold Stella.

The lovely sunny day had me searching out this quote that I used to have on a poster…………..

“Natasha has just come up to the window from the courtyard and opened it wider so that the air may enter more freely into my room. I can see the bright green strip of grass beneath the wall, and the clear blue sky above the wall, and sunlight everywhere. Life is beautiful. Let the future generations cleanse it of all evil, oppression and violence, and enjoy it to the full.”

    …………… But who said it?

  3. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

The Hootsmon has an internet article stating anyone displaying a Palestinian flag at the game tomorrow , could be lifted under the Offensive Behaviour act. The article could possibly be a pile of mince .

I hope Brendan will have our players right up for the challenge tonight and for the second leg.

Sky running an advert for Scottish football. Words appeared on the screen which are a bit presumptious (or they know something we don’t), all four o@@ f@@@ games live on sky .

I wonder how the polis investigation into the two Hearts fans trying to hit Scott Sinclair is coming along.

  4. For all the attention seekers for the game tomorrow night…….news just coming in that their will be no hand outs of palestinian flags……..if your feel let down coaches have been laid on to take you to glasgow green whereby you will be given a flag and you can march around the park to your hearts content……..weather looks promising for tomorrow night and a big screen will be laid on………..glasgow just loves the marching season.

    Dallas …. how ya doing?

    Not just Sky unfortunately …

Someone earlier had mentioned that the Celtic website lists the team Celtic are playing on September 10 as “R******”. Checked, and sadly that is the case. Seems like those running our club consider them the same team. :(

No-one but no-one is daring to say it is a choice between Celtic F.C. and Human Rights / Free Speech but there is a time and place for everything and it is those who want to fly a Palestine flag at a Celtic match knowing that the only real consequence is Celtic F.C. suffering who are bringing the two issues into conflict.

  9. Stairheedrammy on

There are at least 2 Palestinian flags flown at every CP game and this goes back for at least a couple of seasons. What would you do if the SFA said no more tricolours?

Mike in Toronto, thank you for your reply.

I hope the weather in the marvellous city of Toronto is as good as it is here in Scotland.

It came as no surprise that the second club to play its home games at Ibrox are being called their predeccesor’s name . We live in hope that one day the truth will prevail about what went on at Ibrox and the SFA/SPFL’s negligence in it all.

A tough six day period coming up for us. The hopes for Champions League qualication and playing at a ground, McDermid Park, where we haven’t played at our best in a number of games there.

  15. PHILBHOY

For a club with no money they have made 10 signings so far. Cannae be that skint

  16. Petec,

I’ll be lording it in the no7, so if you make the corner I’ll have programmes.

I know as well as almost the monkey club died but let’s not kid ourselves, they still have a fan base that are in denial and always will be. The fight goes on.HH

There can be no denying as we get nearer the End the Ruler of this World will grow in Power.

Celtic will get Stronger in the face of such adversity, I have no doubt about that.

    I’m not a Selfish Man and I will take a 1-0 on the 10th.

  21. Very sad the Scotsman has kept up their anti Celtic agenda so diligently reminding Celtic fans of the hun mindset that sees the people of Gazza in such a poor light.

The Hapoel visit, despite The Scotsman and the other true enemies of Celtic will probably pass without controversy. They’ve openly admitted to have been reading Celtic social media, and the Level 5 hand has clearly been busy, in between helping Sevco find Cup final justice.

There will of course be no flag sellers at Celtic Park on Wednesday least not sellers with any semblance of allegiance to Celtic, and definitely no true allegiance to the Palestinean cause.

If there are such Celtic supporters that think taking a Palestinean flag into Celtic Park is o.k. and cannot rationally see that it’s not, then congrats you’re not a Celtic fan, but a rebel without a clue, regardless of where you mutinously stand, you really are beyond redemption.

  22. BLANTYRETIM IS PRAYING FOR THE KNOX FAMILY on 16TH AUGUST 2016 7:30 AM

Happy birthday to my old man 76 year old today and still as forthright in his views as ever( not that I agree with lots of them) :-)

*when I was a wee loddie my hero at Parkheid was big Frank, he like a lot of goalies was an extrovert, my da labelled him an eejit.

I saw Frank in Gordon’s on Glassford Street one day, I couldnae talk. awestruck.

One night I met my da at the Estate Bridge in the Renton, he was taking me up tae see the new floodlights being switched on, I say new as we were one of the first clubs to have floodlights in our early days although they were only a temporary measure.

The opposition was Wolves who were repeat English champions and would finish that season runners by one point to Burnley ????? but won the FA Cup just losing out on the being the first side to win the coveted double in the 2oth century.

He told me that night I would see an exciting young goalie, much better than “crazy horse” as the jungle labelled him.

    Happy birthday tae the “youngster”.

Incidentally the opposition goalie was former Renfrew Junior Malcolm Finlayson from Bonhill, another unsung uncapped Scottish goalie who figured prominently in that illustrious Wolves side.

  23. TOHG

    Happy Birthday!

Hope you have had a brilliant day.

Many thanks for everything you bhoys done for us :)

  24. WEEMINGER

Next to nowt but the Preston forward needs £750K up front it seems. Players don’t play for free though.

Barton reputedly on £20K plus per week. Did they clear out players in the summer? To be honest haven’t been paying attention to that.

  25. Stairheed…

What would you do if the SFA said no more tricolours?

They tried it before, even the Huns backed us on that one.

Get where you’re coming from though. HH

  26. Cosy Corner Bhoy on

Happy Birthday to TOHG. Watched him from his first till last game. As I have said many a time he was a very good goalkeeper but also a very unlucky one.. He never ever,IIRC, made an error that he ‘got away’ with as they always seemed to result in a goal for th opposition. Yes.. The Original Holy Goalie but not The Luckiest Celtic Goalie! Happy HOOPY Birthday.

Dallas … it has been so hot here for the past month (about 30 degrees most days and humid … like we were in the tropics), even the lovely KT (who is a sun and heat loving australian) put the AC on! So, you know it had to be hot!

Was thinking about Barca’s reaction when the Spanish government banned their fans from bringning Catalan flags to the game. Barca took the government to court and had the ban overturned.

Shows what can be done when there is a will ….
