Underestimating teams in August, win Walfrid hospitality tomorrow

923

You and I have enough recent experience to know teams we’ve never heard of, or know little about, cannot be underestimated when it comes to European football.  We should expect, and will get, a very difficult game tomorrow.

The good news is that Hapoel Beer Shiva have lost goals in three consecutive matches after a solid defensive run which saw them keep 8 clean sheets in 12 games.  But they scored four while conceding in two of those games, the only reversal coming at home to Ashdod in the League Cup last midweek.

They shut up shop away from home in their two earlier Champions League qualifying rounds at Sheriff in Moldova after a narrow 3-2 home win, they kept out Olympiakos before winning the return 1-0 in the last round.

Unlike in previous years, we are not facing a team midseason in the playoff round; Hapoel have had a few cup games but will not open their league season until Saturday.

Hospitality for 3 people at Celtic-Hapoel Beer Shiva at Walfrid Restaurant

Celtic sponsor, Intelligent Car Leasing, have given us three tickets for fantastic hospitality at the Walfrid Restaurant, before, during and after tomorrow’s night’s Champions League qualifier.  This is another money can’t buy opportunity for three people to watch Celtic in a hugely important game in sumptuous comfort.

Anyone can enter the competition, however, as this prize of so incredible, I’d like everyone who enters to donate a recommended £10 to the good work of the Celtic Foundation.

You can donate at this MyDonate page.

The Celtic Foundation work to improve Health, promote Equality, encourage Learning and tackle Poverty (H.E.L.P.) in Scotland, the rest of the UK and Ireland, and worldwide.  It’s your Foundation, you built and maintain its good work.

A few guidelines for the raffle:

Raffle closes at 21:00 BST TONIGHT, so there’s not a lot of time and I’m not expecting many entries.  You will not be entered into the competition if you donate or apply afterwards.

Enter with an email address you are going to check later tonight or early tomorrow, add a phone number, if you like.

You can enter two ways:

By making a recommended £10 donation to Celtic FC Foundation here.  Then email me at celticquicknews@gmail.com with Walfrid in the subject line, to make sure I can get in touch with you.

Or

By emailing me the names of every Celtic shirt sponsor and official kit manufacturer.  Ever. To celticquicknews@gmail.com

One of the above will be pretty easy for most of us.  The other will be pretty difficult.  Do the easy one.

Great prize.  Only open for a few hours so there will be little competition.  Go for it!

Thank you, and thanks to Intelligent Car Leasing for supporting our fundraising efforts.

  1. Beath miss a sitter, Celtic defence looking shaky..

Great play from Calvin… saved well

  2. ROBERTTRESSELL:

Since you asked a decent question I’ll have a go at an answer, and I don’t feel one way or another about this except I wish people would give these things more than a surface amount of thought.

If we were playing an American team would these people take Vietnamese flags? Or the Iraq one? Where are the pro and anti Syria banners? Does our love for the displaced and the put upon translate to supporting Ukraine? Or are we buying the Russian argument that their government is a Western puppet with pro-fascist tendencies? Why aren’t some of the politicos amongst our support flying Russian flags, apart from it being a completely inappropriate colour for Celtic Park?

But hey, does their making a cosmetic choice like that make them moral cowards?

    Not arguing … just asking.

A Cqn family torn apart or maybe as I grow older, I just resent the vile hatred. Used to be important in my life, maybe not so much now. Good luck to you all, if I can ever help you I will but not the cyber pub I used to feel at home in.

  5. Cowdenbeath players, unsurprisingly, looking a lot bigger than the colts… good match so far…unlikely to be another 5-1

  6. Yorkbhoy

Yip, men against bhoys just by looking at them but at the same time, they were 1-0 down by now v Annan so maybe once they get into their stride their ability makes the difference?

They are certainly dominating possession right now.

  7. 7, 59 level5 unionist scum fake multi monikered pastry horrid henry handjob.

    you are?

  8. Thunder road worried about their experience.. but the colts great to watch..

    Nesbitt goes close

  9. There can be no excuses.

    Everyone has been well warned.

The slightest glimpse of a Palestinian flag will have serious consequences for Celtic.

  10. To those who say that due to their (pseudo) political beliefs, that they have no choice but to risk the well-being of our club:

To say you have no choice, you merely relieve yourself of responsibility – a COWARDLY act.

  11. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

Mike in Toronto, sorry for not replying sooner. Fatherly duties i.e driving my cherubs about and getting my good lady wife from the bus stop , intervened.

During that short time I was in Toronto, a few days were in the mid twenties temperature wise. We were taken to the Algonquin State Park , one day, and the temperature was similar to an average summer’s day here.

The Catalan flag mess before last season’s Cope del Rey , was totally unnecessary. The Barca fans were going to take saltires to that game with you can take our flags but not our freedom.

Big nights for us tomorrow and next Tuesday. I’m watching Steua v Man City the now. I hope our defending is bot as bad as Steua’s, they are one nil down with Aguero missing two penalties with twenty six minutes gone.

  12. Very impressed with the first touch of the Colts..

    Celtic FK in good position…

Its hard to believe that you are the same James Forrest that was up in arms about a Primary School teacher who was posting Pro-IRA Slogans on Twitter, during her Lunch Break.

    Oh the Irony!

It was then that it became clear to me where your support lies. That was the day I stopped reading your drivel.

    The bigotted Lunatic fringe.

    Hail Hail!

    Hail HAIL

  14. Yorkbhoy

Yeah, it can help and make the difference but i guess thats what they are playing in this for so although it may get the better of them today it will probably stand them in good stead for the future.

  15. AuroraBorealis79 on

    Correction

That should read “Up in arms about a Primary School teacher who being censured for posting Pro-IRA Slogans…..”

Spot on James; I was about to answer ROBERTTRESSELL and THE EXILED TIM with the same points. What about Syria? What about the Ukraine? What about the numerous states in Africa where genocide is ongoing?

As you posted on the Celtic Blog earlier, how many have marched or donated to the cause? Like you, I have marched and donated. Like you, I agree there is no mileage in this for Palestine or Celtic. And those who believe it may be another fine: beware! IMHO it will be at least partial ground closure if UEFA take action.

So if you are genuine in your desire to improve the lot of the Palestinian people, get of your arse and do something proactive about it. waving a paper flag is a token, nothing more!

I don’t even have the first CLUE what your point is, you muppet.

I have the luxury of genuinely not giving a toss either.

  18. Am I the only person who is bored to death by Guardiolas “style” of football.

His teams over pass ,and give the opposition too much time to get behind the ball.

    Without Messi,Xavi ,and iniesta.

This city side will fail to break down top defences and be caught on the counter,in the big matches ,when it matters.

They should coast against the likes of Steau ,but I predict a trophy less period under his tutelage .

Who says they have got no choice?

People may or may not choose to use their God given Right to Freedom of Expression.

  20. VFR800A8:l

It baffles me mate, it absolutely baffles me.

Look at the forums and the threads on this subject, everywhere.

Very few are actually about Palestine or the Palestinian people.

For reasons best known to themselves, perhaps not even acknowledged, a lot of people have decided what we need, as we’re getting credibility back on the pitch, is a fight with UEFA off of it.

As we KNOW the Palestinian people won’t benefit ONE IOTA from this gesture, no matter how well intentioned it may be, you tell me; who ACTUALLY benefits from what some people seem determined to do?

Not Celtic, that’s for damned sure.

  21. VFR800A8

You miss the point I was trying to make entirely.

I don’t give a monkeys what flag is flown, it’s the bollix about damaging the clubs reputation I was on about, nothing else.

Our reputation will never be damaged with the people who matter.

  22. Aguero misses 2 pens within 20 mins.

Then scores a great goal to put City 2-0 up and kill the tie already.

    Bigger challenges lye ahead.

Yip, borin as feck and not a patch on our colts…….why not get us all back to Styx for another pool tourney and all round fabby day oot instead of being interesting and trying to talk about fitba?

PS……Dinnae make me use the feartie word!

    OOOPS!!! ;)

  24. Just wondering why we didn’t think about waving the Iraqi flag when we played English opposition in Europe?

  25. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

Happy birthday to John Fallon and Didier Agathe.

From what my dad told me about John’s time with us, he would have been first choice but for Ronnie Simpson’s great form.

I’m sure John must have been so proud to have been our keeper in the 4 nil destruction of what was Rangers in the 1969 cup final.

Didier Agathe, when moved to right back , played very well defensively and offensively for us. Another underrated player who occasionally was the escape goat , as his final ball wasn’t the best at times.

  26. Thunder Road.

I’m just out of hospital after a shoulder op.

I have been told 6 weeks for recuperation.

I’ll try and set something up for Oct / Sept.

Alternatively ,I could play with one hand(:-)
