Congratulations to who originally penned: “We shall not be move, not by the Hearts, the Hibs or The Rangers, erm, we’ll not be moved, OK?” Celtic stand alone, our historic rivals, those who half a century ago denied our grandparents, are gone. Do we have a perfect season ahead? Maybe not, but it will be a unique historical joy nonetheless.
Some of the chat yesterday was that the Premiership would be poorer without Hibernian next season, but anyone who watched Hamilton out-pass and out-play them on Sunday wouldn’t think so. Hibs have offered nothing of note to league football for years. Terry Butcher has got practically everything wrong since arriving at Easter Road but his post-match comment, that perhaps his team needed relegation to thoroughly clear the decks.
Whatever Hibs are they are not competition to Celtic. Our domestic competition next season will come from Aberdeen, Dundee United and Motherwell. United and Aberdeen both finished the season poorly after showing considerable promise early on. Expect Jackie McNamara and Derek McInnes to build on their work over the last year.
If you were an aspiring Championship club you will not have welcomed the Accies result on Sunday. Now clear of their administration travails Hearts have the strongest squad in next season’s Championship. They will also be solvent, able to build on their squad and are likely to sell more season tickets than anyone else in the league.
Hibs’ newly recruited chief exec, Leann Dempster, is potentially the clubs most important recruit in 10 years. She will surely attempt to fit her successful Motherwell template onto the Edinburgh club – and may even have more resources at her disposal.
Queens and Falkirk know they are up against it in their bid for promotion next season but they are two well-run clubs who will have an influence on who does go up. I’m not even prepared to consider anyone else for the promotion spots, some just don’t have the players, some don’t have the management, some don’t have the money to end the season. Some are afflicted by all three ailments.
With the potential of a rejuvenated Hibs making next season’s play-offs, Premiership clubs will spend the next 11 months anticipating the very real possibility that it’s odds on that two clubs will go down next season. Accies and Dundee look more than a match for St Mirren, Kilmarnock, Ross County and Partick Thistle. While Celtic will win the league comfortably, we’re likely to see intense competition between Motherwell, Aberdeen and United for the ‘Best of the Rest’ badge, and between the other eight clubs to stay up.

Curious that the three teams in the Celtic song are relegated (Hibs/hearts/sevco) …and two in Sevco song (Dundee/Hamilton) promoted
All good candidates should apply by postcard.

Bada
apart from the glariong mistook that Sevco were not relegated. they were afforded a place that should have been Spartans by rights.

Off oot!!
Back to the speculating over the next manager.
Given Paul Lambert’s previous statements of wishing to remain outside the Glasgow goldfish bowl, then we are losing a candidate who knows about the club, has played in Europe and experienced German football.
If Paul is not minded to come north then Moyes would be the obvious candidate , however on reflection a combination of money and his desire (guesswork here) may result in Moyes waiting for an EPL berth.
Many of the other candidates have not managed a team in European matches, Coyle, Mackay, Hartley, etc, etc with only a handful of matches played in Europe between them; so potentially tactically exposed.
Jackie does tick a few boxes but from what I have seen of Dundee Utd , Jackie has them all running forward without much thought for defensive cover , a la BTM.

Maybe the Duke of Edinburgh could be interested. He is up here soon!

‘Can anyone explain how a league is weaker without the two relegated sides?’
###
I assume it will be financially weaker because two well supported teams are being replaced by two less well supported teams.
But the difference will be marginal because it’s the number of away supporters, not home supporters, which impact on the league as a whole rather than individual clubs.

I have already squeezed it between the cracks in the windies.

Hi Paul67,
Got to agree with your assessment of the Championship League next season – The ladies at Hibs and Hearts have quite a task but can bring some of the former glory back to the Edinburgh Clubs by some common-sense restructuring.
Noticed that new team that is tearing up the Leagues is bookies favourite for promotion, and while the £74M spend to get them thus far has seen great achievements. I think like Gretna and Livi before them they will run out of steam but unlike those Clubs feel the Premiership is a step too far.
Hail Hail
Morton brought more fans to CP last season than Hibs or Hearts.

So what are you saying, Scottish League One is the strongest league in the UK? ;)
H
I just hope that in the end we sign a manger with a reputation. Doesn’t need to be a good reputation. Any reputation will do.
canne believe we just missed out on the French lass who was a scout for us though. don’t know how good a manager she would make but she wa nice and would stirr up a wolf whistle debate every week.

If you had told my late father that Celtic would play in a league in which none of Rangers , Hearts or Hibs played because they were all in a lower league he simply wouldn’t have believed it possible.
The same could be said of whole generations of Celtic fans.
We don’t know we’re living.

:) Aye, expecting a humping is something to do with it though!
Hibs are a disgrace – if their expectations weren’t so low they wouldn’t have gotten into the mess they are in. A club with big potential but football wise…no loss to the league. Nice stadium though, hope they have Sevco’s address to send the repair bill!

Given that club football is finished for the season – PL is probably applying the Duckworth-Lewis method to select our new manager.
