Unproductive costs

775

Lewis Morgan has had a difficult shift this season.  The 23-year-old winger was used sparingly as a squad player before the concurrent absences of Odsonne Edouard, Leigh Griffiths and Bayo saw him drafted into the striker role against Rennes on 28th November.

Lewis scored a good goal that day but he is not a striker.  He made another four appearances in that position before Edouard’s return, which brought the experiment to an end.  He made 17 appearances in League One for Sunderland during the second half of last season.  In the Wembley play-off final, he was brought on as an early substitute, while Aiden McGeady remained on the bench, but his time in the North East was not particularly productive.

Now he is Going to Miami for talks with Inter (not that one), with the MLS side having agreed a fee with Celtic for his permanent transfer.

There are several things about our experience with Lewis Morgan I like.  Celtic scouts considered him the top talent in the Championship, a player with the potential to make the step up.  It is good that we sign players like this.

He was loaned back to St Mirren, then after six months at Lennoxtown, out to Sunderland.  He was given a chance in the qualifiers, then put through the striker turmoil, which gave Neil Lennon a chance to assess the player.

The player has a League Cup winner’s medal and a Wembley experience, things that he will be talking about for the rest of his life, and is likely to sign a contract to keep him in Florida for a few years.  He would have hoped to hold down a first team place at Celtic, but on balance, the move from St Mirren has worked out well for him.

We have difficulty keeping players who are outstandingly successful, but they usually leave a for fee that allows us to further strengthen.  What happens with players who do not make the grade is also important.  Getting them off the wage bill, for a fee and hopefully a profit, stops the budget from being clogged by unproductive costs, a problem we have discussed on these pages since the days of Martin.

  1. Thanks once again for all the good wishes regarding my health. It has been the toughest ( healthwise) time that I have ever known since October 2019.

Anyway, I have cash in the bank, food in the Cupboard and a nice roof over my head, so I am luckier than a lot of people.

    …………

Re Ryan Christie…….Has ANY other player in Scottish Football been deemed by The SFA to have carried out a “BRUTAL ASSAULT” ?

I am 64 years old, and I have witnessed many “brutal” assaults and Christies doesnt even come close !

Apart from the assaults on KT and Jonny Hayes and Christie in recent years, how have the SFA viewed the “Brutal assaults” committed by the Hun goalie, McGregor…….NOT Brutal enough ?

I can think of at least THREE separate brutal assaults by McGregor just last season…on Kris Ajer, a Hearts player and I think a Motherwell player when he decided to boot and rake his studs down the guys back while in the process of taking a kick out…..WHY was that NOT deemed to be Brutal ?

  2. HUNDERBIRDS ARE GONE on 11TH JANUARY 2020 1:17 PM

Bankiebhoy stole ma thunder, but this nonsense about us “dithering” over transfers is just that, nonsense. I just looked up “Sky Sports Transfer Centre” completed deals page. There are eight headlines. That’s it, eight transfers completed in the entire U.K., and one of them is Magic Johnston signing up for five years.

Once a target is identified there are a number of issues to be resolved.

    * Do the players current club want to sell?

    * Does the player want to move?

    * Does the players wife want to move?

    * If the player has a family, is it feasible to uproot them?

    * If the player is willing to move, does he want to play in Scotland?

    * If the player is willing to move, does he want to play for Celtic?

    * Can we strike a deal with the selling club?

    * Can we strike a deal with the players agent? Or Agents?

    * There may be difficulties with the players existing contract, add on fees etc.

Once all of this is agreed in principal, both clubs will need to consult legal representatives. The player will need to consult his legal representatives. Then contracts need written and signed. Temporary accommodation must be secured for the player and his family.

It is not like a Football Manager computer game. Then consider all of the above, and that the player or club, may have multiple offers to consider. Also the players agent, or the selling club know that they will likely miss out on top dollar if they agree a deal early in the window.

Yet there are comments in here about just give them what they are asking, and stop haggling. With a policy like that we would be bust in a few years. Get real!

Hunderbirds are gone however Sevco Bigots are Back

Nah I don’t buy into what you are saying its just an excuse for Celtic to be incompetent/

useless if Clubs with smaller finacial clout than Celtic can go out & bring in new faces

then their is no excuse also it should be writen/typed in these so called “Contracts” if

a player is not pulling their weight for whatever reason oe they are no willing to listen

& learn then they so called “Contracts” automatically become null-invoid cancelled

taxi for end of especially if ones is paying “Milkmen Breifs” to draw said Contracts up

that is a no brainer Clubs don’t have untold amount of money to waist in bad & hopeless

    additions

  3. Again….IF Ref Clancy and his officials FAILED to see the incident with Ryan Christie against Morloes….then WHY did the Ref award the Huns a Free Kick ?

Apart from the shocking “brutal” description by the SFA which celtic should challenge…..Celtic should also be asking why a Ref gave a decision that He and his colleagues didnt see ?

100% on the issue of SFA brutality statement.

That is too far given context and what actually occurred.

Disgrace that it has gone unchallenged. It is also very poor that no pressure was applied re Morelos gesture when leaving pitch. Our CEO has been sleeping on his watch re that.

    —————————-

It doesn’t fit at all.Celtic statement asks for consistency when imo we have been inconsistent regarding various discretions.Alfredo’s player walkabout, literally,For example

It looks to me that the governing body are knuvkling down for their favoured side..old habits eh

  5. Hunder Birds Are Gone But Bigots Are Back

Player Compare for example what a stich up that was who signed him?

  6. Yip good luck big Jimmy 🙏

Clancy awarded Sevco a free kick on the Christie/Morales incident

    So he saw it 👍

Is that not the argument FtSFA used last season for the Columbian 3 incidents – Beaton saw it, even though no action ?

    Clear double standards

I’m positive this could be challenged by a sharp suited lawyer??

Mind you the note from FtSFA ends with

    13. Determinations of a Fast Track Tribunal are final and binding and there is no right of appeal

As news breaks of Celtic signing

    Emmanuel Abedayor

  7. If its true we have signed ex Arsenal player Emmanuel Abedayor hopefully

we will get some useful use out of him however in football age terms he is

no spring chicken he is 35 years old

  11. I hope this is not our only signing this window & a signing to try an

cause in the football big money business their is always changes

& new challenges always lays ahead so aleays be prepaired to

face these challenges don’t be complacent

Hunderbirds Player Compare was an injury prone defender from

Redbull German Club(Lipzberg) whatever we played the same mob

in last years Europa League remeber anyway he was a total waist

of time & space & he was on a long lucrative contract which worked

out as a total waist of money his contract should been terminated

asap when he was sussed out not being left stiched up with him

    on our wage bill

Zimmer Frame would Adebayor no be better appearing

in the fowllow up movie Poms Two yeah a good chear

leader as for footy player that’s debatable

  17. Total disgusted with our Board over the Christie incident.Brutality,my ass.He tried to haul him back, nothing more.Cannot believe we are accepting this charge.Just what does it take.

I think if we don’t hear of any action against Morelos on Monday, then we can forget it.Reading during the week that this offence was not brought up alongside Christie,as it is not time barred, and comes under different charges. We will see.

  18. All this transfer talk reminds me of the auld Tony Roper radio sketch ( as Chairman Kevin Kelly)

“No,No No, there’ll be NO panic buying at Celtic – just panic!”

    Cheers.

The “dithering Celts” line, when talking about our negotiations grew legs around the time that our very own Notorious BIG – “Big Peter” aka The Sharp Suited Man etc etc etc…………took hold in popular conscience.

In scoddland that would never do.

It was only the huns that were deemed suitable for swash-bucklin’ business deals….on or off that unlikely dance-floor favoured by the Busted Flush.

If we strill only had the Rekord to read we’d still be fed the keech that had thum jettin’ in World Beaters in time for Last Orders at The Duck Bay Marina.

For the bombastic boast to take hold that the huns always goat thur man to take hold, enter consciousness and be regarded as fact ( Fact!) it wasn’t enough that the huns should be lauded but that the Tims should be shown in the worst light possible. The transfer “dithering” guff is just that.

Part of a plan to keep thems in the game, keep the mouth-breathers on-side and to destabilise a solid, outfit that Timdom represents.

    Easy peasy.

  21. Our Board is becoming a soft touch with the Bias Bigot Cheats (FTSFA)

They probably think ah well if they are using & supporting Sevco via

Douglas Park Coaches hiring & saying @ a past AGM ah we don’t see

the point in changing Club Hire Footy Coaches in other words we don’t

want to rock the Boat then the FTSFA are probaly thinking which

dangerous playing Celtic player on our opposition Clubs in other words

players who can make a difference on the playing field can we susspend

    next ah the cheats

  22. Here is the Collins Dictionary definition of brutality:

Brutality is cruel and violent treatment or behaviour. A brutality is an instance of cruel and violent treatment or behaviour.

    …police brutality.

…the atrocities and brutalities committed by a former regime.

    Synonyms

    cruelty

    atrocity

    ferocity

    savagery

    ruthlessness

    barbarism

    inhumanity

    barbarity

    viciousness

    brutishness

    bloodthirstiness

    savageness

So Celtic PLC, if this is true Ryan Christie should be dismissed with immediate effect, if not what are you going to do about it?

  23. POG……………..

I’m sure the SFA will not select him again due to his completely unacceptable behaviour.

  24. It’s maybe about time the Green Brigade made up a song for Dudu Duhan. He’s now the biggest influence on our team at the minute

  25. ” Dudu, du ya think am sexy?”
