Urgency behind SFL plan

812

Dictionaries across the English speaking world will need to be updated for the term ‘loose cannon’, currently- noun, a person whose reckless behaviour endangers the efforts or welfare of others.  In future they should be appended, ‘Charles Green’.

For months Charles has been busy telling anyone who would listen to him that his The Rangers club will never appear in the Scottish Premier League.  Now, he has told the world the Scottish Football League are set to propose reconstruction which would see the end of the SPL and create one fewer step between his new club and top flight football.  He told TalkSport, “I understand that the Football League [presumably he means the SFL]on Wednesday are having a meeting of clubs and it’s the intention of the executive to unveil what they think would be a restructuring plan for Scottish football.”

Green is one of the few from the SFL who have had anything to do with the plan, few were aware of it until his announcement yesterday.  I hear the other architects of the plan inside the SFL are chief executive, David Longmuir and Airdrie United director, Jim Ballantye.  My source also told me SFA president, Campbell Ogilvie was “in on the ground floor with the SFL plans”.  They will all, surely, be frustrated that Green was out there with the news before the league were.

As STV today reported, the SFA have set a deadline of 30 November for the leagues to agree a reconstruction plan, “threatening they would instead push through with their own plans to bring about change by the 2013/14 season if an agreement could not be reached”.  That’s next summer!

Timing here is everything, and is urgent.

The SPL Commission will soon convene into Improper Registration of Players at Rangers…
the predecessor club of The Rangers…
whose SFA membership The Rangers benefited from in order to compete in league football with less than three years accounts…
and who consequently are liable for penalties served on Rangers.

If found guilty, and no one is holding to the pretence otherwise anymore, the consequences for The Rangers are enormous.  Forget about the inevitable stripping of titles, this is of historical consequence only, prize money [of circa £15m]will also be reclaimed and a punishment levied.

As I have said before, the toxicity of the old club is simply not viable to continue with.  Newco Rangers either have to start from scratch, or the structures of Scottish football need to brought down with any penalties due wiped from the slates.

The Rangers share prospectus, now overdue, will have to detail these risks to the company unless an alternative narrative can be agreed and presented.

The chances of the SPL giving this Longmuir, Ballantyne and Ogilvie plan serious consideration are remote.  It is a nonsense, will be rejected by the SPL and may even face opposition from those clubs within the Scottish Football League who stand to benefit from the change, but will find the motivations behind it unsupportable.

Scottish football is enjoying a well-earned renewal this season, no thanks to the game’s administrators, but the serious allegation, that many leagues and cups were won for over a decade by a club which was paying players against the tax laws of the country and against SFA, SPL and Fifa regulations, has yet to be resolved.

Until we know the truth, hear the consequences, know that those responsible are no longer in control of the game and have been banned for life from future involvement, there can be no talk of expedient change.

STV’s revelation that the SFA have imposed a 30 November deadline is the greatest illustration yet why “heavily conflicted” Campbell Ogilvie should have been on garden leave months ago. All those who carried out the duties which led to this shambles, and who have legal responsibility for it, should receive the life ban from the game that was promptly applied to Craig Whyte.

A swift rebuttal of this nonsense with a clearing of the decks is required. There can be no discussions on these matters while inquiries are on-going and those responsible for recent events are still running the game.

  5. What surprises me is the lack of action by the clubs themselfs.

The game is going down the pan, everybody can see it, the corrupt powers are only doing things for the benefit of one club.

The clubs should sort it, it can’t be that hard to take some action that will save the game.

Or maybe they don’t want to save it, that would do for me.

  6. THE EXILED TIM,

Celtic announce new facilities for disabled supporters

By: Newsroom Staff on 13 Nov, 2012 15:45

CELTIC Football Club is delighted today to announce that it is to undertake a major programme of improvements to its facilities for disabled supporters.

In recent seasons, Celtic has worked closely with the Celtic Disabled Supporters´ Association to ensure that we provide the best service possible for our supporters with disabilities. Following this close co-operation, the Club will undertake a series of improvements to facilities to ensure the best possible matchday experience for fans.

Among the changes, Celtic will create new elevated viewing platforms in both the South East and North West quadrants, to accommodate both home and away supporters. These will introduce an additional 34 wheelchair spaces for supporters and will provide all disabled supporters with greatly improved sight lines.

As part of the North West redevelopment, a comfortable new social/recreational area will also be created for use by supporters prior to the match and at half-time.

As a Club open to all, Celtic is fully committed to ensuring a positive matchday experience for all our supporters and the Club works closely with many charities in the areas of disability. The Club is also delighted for a number of years to have achieved the Positive About Disability accreditation, a Government-backed initiative aimed at promoting the employment of disabled people.

To avoid disruption, the redevelopment work within the stadium will take place during the forthcoming closed season.

Celtic Chief Executive Peter Lawwell said: “We are delighted to announce the new improvements to the stadium facilities for our disabled supporters. We have enjoyed a very close working relationship with the CDSA, we are delighted to respond to the needs of our disabled supporters and put these plans in place.

“Celtic is fully committed to providing a positive matchday experience for all our supporters and we hope these new improvements will be warmly welcomed.”

Peter Joyce, Chairman of the Celtic Disabled Supporters´ Club, said: “We wholeheartedly give our support to the creation of elevated viewing areas for Celtic’s disabled supporters, as well as the improvements to the away disabled supporters area.

“We look forward to continuing to work with Celtic on this project and appreciate that Celtic are genuinely taking on board our expertise and knowledge in their design and layout.

“These improvements will continue to keep Celtic Park as the best in Scotland and one of the best in UK when it comes to accessibility and meeting the requirements of a wide range of supporters with varying disabilities.”

James Forrest was at Celtic Park today to announce this news, along with CDSA secretary Terry Tochel and Committee member Jim Marnell. And James told the official Celtic website: “This is a great move by the club and I´m sure all our fans will be delighted with the news.

“The support we get at Celtic Park is incredible, and you only have to think back to last week against Barcelona to see how important it is for the players. Improving the facilities for our disabled supporters here is fantastic, and can only help the whole experience for the fans of coming to the stadium to cheer the team on.”

  12. No new date has been set for the start of the hearing into alleged undisclosed payments to Rangers players.

A Scottish Premier League-appointed independent commission was scheduled to start hearing evidence, but the process has been put back due to illness.

The SPL will make an announcement when the members of the commission have arranged a new date.

Its hearing will be chaired by Lord Nimmo Smith, who will be assisted by QCs Nicholas Stewart and Charles Flint.

If I was an owner or a chairman, as sure as I am typing here, I would be talking to other clubs about this.

Feck the msm, guys like Turnball Hutton doesn’t give a toss about them, our game is getting destroyed, their clubs are getting destroyed, and unless they take action PDQ, they won’t have any club left.

  14. Ernie/Greenjedi – thanks fellas. Sounds like a bad one to be fair.

Very limited information about it online though.

  15. I posted the following on the TSFM any positive amendments welcomed.

There is no way any club, other than Servco, will vote for reconstruction if it means losing thousands of season ticket holders. The only danger is if the vote is secret.

All talk of reconstruction should be put on hold until this tawdry episode currently affecting Scottish football is dealt with transparently and quickly. Failing this, a massive campaign will be put in place to encourage season ticket holders to withhold subscription until the voice of the bread and butter of the game in Scotland THE FANS are listened too

I feel an email like the above should be drafted and sent to all clubs and their fans in Scotland. If you feel the above post can be improved on please feel free to amend same.

I think when we establish the proper wording for this email we should pull out the stops to have it available to all fair-minded fans in Scottish football.

  16. Could someone start a petition asking Celtic supporters whether they wish ever again play any phoenix of thon deid team? (I’m not computer literate enough.) I’m well sure of the result and it might be presented to those who imbibe unthinkingly the drab musings of Charles Greene as proof positive that he only deals in porkies. Mind you, they’ll probably only see the unseen fenian hand at work. Aw shucks, crivvens, help ma boab. They’re doomed, I tell yese.

the hearing behind closed doors affords more rights, regardless of any justification for the secrecy.

The simple fact that it was allowed give all involved more rights to keep secrets.

I would love an official statement from our club to instruct Chuck to refrain from dragging us into his quagmire.

Yesterday we had Old Firm (spit) colts to play in re-vamped league…

Today we have the world is waiting on the Old Firm (spit) fixture…

Chuck, I have never met a single Celtic man who want to see oldco/newco/servco (you name it) darken our door again.

I am convinced that 99.99% of Celtic fans would welcome an official statement from our club that effectively distances us – once and for all – from them and the very concept of the OF.

They (whoever they are) NEED it, we most certainly DON’T !!!

Exactly, the delay in the SPL’s investigation is secondary.

We were told HMRC had released it’s report to the relevant parties a fortnight ago and still we wait for its general release into the public domain, why?

A fortnight should be plenty of time for them to digest the sizable report and prepare themselves for the condemnation that’s about to descend on them, not that I’m prejudging the FTT report you understand.

Chuckles Green and his PR machine are in overdrive with at least one news story a day to maintain the media profile of the disgraced ones, its about time he was put back in his box.
