Use Wolfsburg to find desperately needed sharpness

1058

If you’ve been here for a while you’ll have noticed I don’t pay much attention to preseason friendlies but tomorrow’s game against Wolfsburg takes on a more serious tone after Tuesday’s reversal – Celtic desperately need to find sharpness.

Despite the well-placed confidence that we’ll cope comfortably at Celtic Park on Wednesday against Lincoln Red Imps, the serious challenges will come thick and fast thereafter.

Players need to find their edge and the manager needs to learn who goes where and works with whom. It’s just about possible for us to get things together, but whoever we pull out of the hat in today’s provisional third qualifying round draw will be delighted to catch a team in apparent flux.

All this brings us back to Wolfsburg’ a much needed test.

Seriously….do any of you think you have any stake in anything?

This parliamentary system is nothing but a mechanism of social control.

Its a total farce….and i do not get why people are so concerned about Westminster….its got nothing to do with you…dont you get it.

Its not for me or you.

Its purely for the benefit of political elites….you dont matter, you are not included.

    You have no say.

Electing sociopaths and psychopaths to represent you politically…..wake up ffs……Grow up.

There is no such thing as democracy…..here, or anywhere else.

It does not exist, it is merely a figment of the imagination.

Deadline for registering any new signings eligible for all matches in the third qualifying round is 11pm on Thursday next 21 July 2016, plus the ‘one new eligible player’ rule which must be completed by 11pm on the day before the relevant first-leg match.

    Auld Tam,

Have you no got a nappy that needs changing, you really are a pathetic excuse for a human being, there was no reason bar personal animosity for your contribution.

No one offended me, I simply responsded to a typically sun reader mantality that cannot think beyond the action and refuses to consider the root cause and hence potential solution. Oh that and the fact that like you his only motive was to have a pop at someone he does not like.

  4. SydneyTim says sack Lawell now on

Indeed paul67. Even Brendan must be shocked at the level of quality in the team. We knew this 12 months ago. But Peter Lawell continued to throw away the clubs income while picking up his bonus

Will take a few years to undo PL poor work

    Celtic40me,

You maybe should have thought like that when you addressed neganon, looked to me that was exactly what you were wanting, with your ill thought out rhetoric simply aimed at vilifying someone for introducing a more cerebral approach to discussing the Nice atrocity.

  6. And there was me thinking it was Neganon I was criticising.

Nice exhibition of self-pity though, but wasted on me.

    Not interested.

i have no doubt it did. thanks for the observation and advice; let’s leave it there.

  8. The Green Man says SACK THE Board on

    As i was saying.

Its the illusion of democracy we perceive….the staged appearance of democracy.

The Prime Minister, whoever he or she may be, from whatever political party……is there to manage the power of the state….not to do your bidding.

So….being concerned about the political direction of the country, as though there was something you could do to prevent it….by voting, Ha Ha….Forget it.

The Wolfsburgh game is a potential problem if players try too hard to impress BR and burn themselves out for the Imps return game.

I thought BR was pulling a flanker against the Imps in that he gave a load of players their swan song game and their final chance to stake a claim in his plans for the future, might still be the case but it’s a dangerous game to play, it’s no like we a brimming over with talent that we can afford to give away games like that.

And of course the families of everyone who lost their loved ones yesterday French or not.

  11. RUGGYGMAN on 15TH JULY 2016 9:39 AM

Christie has made two competitive starts since signing, both playing out of position. Hardly being given continual opportunities.

Agree re. Rogic, impact sub at best. Too slow, can’t seem to last 90 mins.

I think-injuries aside-he picked the team which largely won the league last season. Plus THE new signing.

Back four-Janko in for Lustig, not up to pace after the Euros.

  13. Canamalar it looks like OCD obsession on

    BMCUWP,

Or put it another way the bulk of the team that got beat in the semi final to a team with similar talent.

  14. Ruggyman

My opinion, Ryan Christie at 20, has a huge future in the game

I watched him dominate midfield whilst at Inverness and play against Celtic on more than 1 occasion

Last 2 games of last season (remember he had a serious knee injury on joint us in Jan), he played as lone striker and then in centre of midfield, yes league was won, but he played very very well in those games

He is not a left winger as played on Tues night, can accept, so get him into his natural position, and we have a very decent prospect and player for us

He should be playing in the role Tom Rogic was given on Tues, who is now in last year of deal, and no sign of resigning, then we will see the player he can be

    Just my opinion

  15. BOBBY MURDOCH'S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS on

    Ooops….

Midfield-Christie? Well, maybe needed as a runner to balance the other three crabs.

Front two of Griff and Dembele.

Even the subs were similar to those used last year.

I doubt in all honesty he expected that display, that it was a shop-window or last-chance saloon. He probably didn’t want to experiment in a competitive game at this early stage.

It blew up in his face;the saving grace is that we may have seen the last of some Timposters.

  16. BMCuWP

Janko was absolutely abysmal on Tues, no idea what has happened since his very debut last season, doesn’t look the same player now though

    we miss commons

hopefully the flat space in cp will give some movement to the modfielders and give us a threat from 18 yards out aswell as LG for toe poke

mind you, as some people have said, at least BR has seen the true stat of the squad

I bow to your superior knowledge. I’ve seen little of him,but most has been impressive enough. He’s on my keep list.

    There’s a fair few aren’t!

  19. TET

Agreed, would be playing Christie and Armstrong in middle of a midfield 4

Browns best position is also wide right of that 4, although young Roberts fits in there

    Hail Hail

Just about the last time I saw Janko last season,he was on his arse-again-after another assault, and screaming something at the ref.

I’d guess along the lines of “what sport do you think this is? Cage-fighting?!”

I doubt he wants to play hammer-throwers. I canny blame him.

  21. Cowiebhoy

We won’t play a four in the mid tho, it will be a 4231 or a 433.

Causes a prob or two when you have players that don’t fit the system.

  22. quadrophenian on

Yep @Ruggyman 9.39 – looks about right. I’d give Izzy a run tho, as I think Kieran looked tired late last season and a bit same when we got gibbed in Gib. Contrary to most, I dont think Broony is washed-up fitba wise – less stare and mair flair woundn’t go amiss tho.

Maybe we could sign Paul Weller-))

  24. Canamalar it looks like OCD obsession on

    Cowiebhoy,

Agreed, I’d also like a manger to play players in their best position for a change and stop trying to improve them beyond their ken. Too many managers IMO spend too much time trying to get players to fit unfamiliar roles that take too long for the players to adjust to. Aye fair enough if it improves the players but while they are learning the role they are a risk to the team. That game showed BR is of a similar mind set, putting players in positions they are uncomfortable with but will do their best to acquit themselves as best they can, I mean LG as a winger refs, what was the point of that ? Really what was the point or even the logic behind it ? The guy scored a barrel load last season and BR marginalises him.

  25. Why is the 3rd round Champions Route draw split into 2 groups? It doesn’t seem to be on geographical grounds, and no explanation given.

    BMCUWP,

With that squad every selection is an experiment, the fact he is a new manager every selection is an experiment. Choosing the bulk of players who got the last manager mutually consented is and was a risk that he now understands (hopefully) why the last manager had problems.

    AULD TAM

There are two sets of qualifying rounds.

The Champions from the diddy leagues, and the diddy teams from the top leagues.

This helpfully explains why we now complain about being knocked out by diddy teams(Maribor)where once we complained about UEFA just wanting the big teams to go through(Arsenal)

Except it disnae, not by my explanation. And I’m only on my first pint!
