Interesting debate between An Tearmann and JF on 17th September 2025 3:14 pm, now being 3.5k miles away I depend on sites like this for the true picture of what is rally happening at Parkheid, although once big Ike’s goal went in it seems that the trolls hade disappeared for a bit.
Talking of that penalty which the SMSM are still debating, at least it leaves shankill alone for a bit over his hotly and probably rightly disputed goals, what I witnessed was scenes of exuberation from the future of our club, a very young support pouring on to the track to celebrate it, so much for sack the board there, this was another one of the famous Celtic come backs that we have witnessed through the years.
It reminded me of a game that can be found on you tube it was on March 5, 1966 in the quarter final of the SC at swinecastle, no I wisnae at this game as I was still trying tae play it, but I can recall the euphoria on my then 42 year old da’s face when I asked him as I usually did “how the Celtic get on the day”, this was a man who could recall the Empire Exhibition Cup winning side like a litany which he taught me like he did the 7-1 side, aye he had seen some good times like the Coronation Cup win but also some lousy ones, avoiding relegation in 1948 plus as is often called IMHO wrongly the “years in the wilderness”, he was now revelling in Jock’s side especially after humphin the huns 5-1 on January 3, a game I was at since the 1st and 2nd fell on the weekend, so it was a statutory holiday.
But to give you some back drop here to this cup game, after that superlative win on January 3 we lost 3 of our next 6 League games, pittodrie, swinecastle and annfield where the local side managed by the durtiest hun that I have ever saw sammy baird appeared in an orange strip, the only time that season that they wore it.
The swinecastle game was interesting as we were forced to play the calvinists after arriving back from Tbilisi, Georgia, where we’d drawn 1-1 with Dynamo Kiev in the ECWC Quarter Final 2nd leg, on Wednesday 26th to go through to the semi 4-1 on aggregate, due to weather conditions in the Ukraine the tie had been moved to there, they both were still part of the USSR.
We had travelled to and from there via Sweden with Aer Lingus which was the one airline that Bob Kelly preferred, my da always insisted that was because all their planes were blessed before going into operation lol, part of the reason we were late back in Glasgow was our AL charter flight had 2 aborted take-off attempts in Sweden because of the snow, so mindful of the Munich disaster of only 8 years before at a similar time of the year Bob, like Jock a close friend of Sir Matt, vetoed a third attempt.
Anyway, after a hellish journey we arrived in Glasgow late on the Friday night, the players were taken straight to Celtic Park at midnight for a loosening up training session by Jock and Neilly, now lets be cognisant to the fact the we didnae request a postponement of the Saturday game and a move to the sabbath was out despite Jock phoning the SFA from Stockholm during the delay, as if they would ever have helped us.
Swinecastle was packed to the rafters with a sell out crowd, it was truly a tough game for us at the best of times but the travel disruptions played a huge factor on it, wee wispy always a thorn in our side when playing for them, actually he was thorn when with the Sons as I witnessed him in my last game at Boagheid and also with my da winding a young Kenny up so much that the red faced latter had his fist balled up ready tae gub Wullie but he was stopped by the intervention of big Cush, now with the Sons, who held his fist back, who opened the scoring for the home side.
The bear equalised for us just after the second half ko, but again wispy added a second and then former buddy and sheep don kerrigan a third before, joe mcgoals pulled another back for us with twelve minutes remaining, despite an all out onslaught the home side held out to take a win in a hard fought game, oh and deidco went back to the top of the League table equal on points but with a better goal average.
So here we were 5 weeks later after beating stranraer at home and dundee away in the SC convincingly, away again to swinecastle, and this was the game that showed the energy of the young Celtic support, the match had to be stopped after only two minutes as the crowd spilled on to the field from where the Celtic supporters had congregated, the teams had to be taken off the field for at least 10 minutes while order was restored, despite the all ticket crowd limit it was clear that there were more in the ground than the limit placed pre-match.
Wispy again opened the scoring for the home side heading home a willie hamilton free kick, nae wonder Jock came back for him 9 month later, however wee ten thirty quickly replied for us with a goal that was flagged as offside by the linesman but allowed by the referee, hugh philips ffs; but back came the calvinist to go take the lead again when hamilton, another player that the big mhan coveted when he was with the hibbees, turned in a corner.
3 minutes after half time it was joe mcgoals to the rescue once again with a cracking shot and then six minutes later another joe shot saw stevie make sure it was had crossed the line, so with half an hour left we were in front for the first time and looked good for the win as both jinky and the bear tormented their defence but also with only 6 minutes left on the counter attack wispy again fired over a low cross which was dummied to that man hamilton who prodded a low shot past oul ronnie who honestly looked suspect in all 3 goals
Seriously look for this game on you tube as our young Celtic support were magnificent urging us on.
As for the replay 4 days later which I happened to attend, that one is on you tube as well, my carolina and I for some reason entered the ground at janefield street and no via london road as we normally did, we tried tae get intae the Celtic End, nae chance mobbed, same story for the Jungle, chock a block so we just stood under a pylon between both, oh and the crowd was an estimated Desmond White 72,000 lol.
3 significant changes were Jim Craig at right back allowing Big Billy to move back to centre half and Cush who had performed poorly against wispy on two occasions, to drop out, also in came Charlie G for wee ten thirty possibly tae counter the trickery of wullie hamilton
Unlike the first game, we controlled this game from the start with the wee mhan, who scored our opener, being outstanding performing his usual box of tricks, Bobby M and Stevie scored our other 2 goals the latter practically running the length of the calvinist half to slot the ball home, wispy pulled one back when the faither mishandled his lob
But the main talking point as we exited the ground came over the tannoy with the huns losing 2-3 at brockville against a falkirk side managed by former jambo boss and great tommy walker while both our other nearest rivals the pars and reigning champions kilmasonic lost tae, another great night to be a Celt.
Liverpool have won all 5 games this season with goals beyond the 80th minute. Love seeing big Virgil doing well

On where AI is taking us Isaac Asimov wrote a short story in 1956 called The Last Question this is summary of the story
A super-computer (Multivac, and later AC in more advanced forms) is asked repeatedly whether entropy can be reversed. (Entropy being the end of everything)
Its answer, again and again over billions of years: “There is as yet insufficient data for a meaningful answer.”

After using AI to get some information on Sir David Murray, ebts and tax I told my wife it was like having a conversation with God. Scary.
I predict AI will change the nature of blogs where statements/comments can be checked with AI for accuracy. Which could lead to AI writing blogs or lead blogs being more accurate.

After harrumphing for an eternity following the Kairat result, love of Celtic was the better part … and rightly so, IMHO.
Four more opportunities to see the bhoys at Celtic Park?

I don’t have high confidence for this campaign.
I think Brendan will get us into a groove eventually, but I suspect it will take 3 months and will be bumpy on the way up.
We did 12 points and reached the play offs last season’s CL.
I’d settle for the same this season … but with us progressing from the play offs.
January 2026 transfer window could be a significant factor.
Hopefully, the outline of a recruitment strategy that everyone understands and, more importantly, signs up to … will be in place by then.

To be clear, this is nothing to do with age, but length of tenure on the board. The nine-year gold standard is because shareholders worry about chairs getting stale and complacent. Long-time incumbents increasingly resist change because that often means reversing or abandoning the ideas they introduced in the first place. They lose their independence and their appetite to challenge. The culture ossifies. Power becomes entrenched. Boards become packed with yes-men and women.
Most of our board have been in place for around 25 years.

The Celtic PLC’s elusive recruitment strategy.
Thought up a dozen years ago, the Board seem wedded to this “strategy” in total dogmatic terms.
An example would be the 🎶 waiting up all night to get Pukki🎵 syndrome where tough negotiations are hammered out to the last knockings, until the selling club caves and the players agent settles for a less personal terms.
It seems clubs, agents and players are much more sophisticated, know their real worth and know other opportunities will arise.
The last minute dot com approach meant we lost out on Dolberg who had assumed we were not serious and we paid top dollar for Tounekti anyway.
One imagines we could have had Tounekti pre-season for 5.5mn and sold Yang to boot.
Just one example of the ossiffied dogmatic approach being ineffectual in best current market practice.

An alternative reading would be that we had lost out on Dolberg many weeks before, but waited until the end of the window in the vain hope that he’d change his mind. He didn’t.
It’s reminiscent of Ginola, De Gryse and so many others back in the day. Were we looking up at goods on the shelves that are effectively out of reach? No harm in being ambitious, in chancing your arm, but you need good alternatives when the more established players prefer other places to Scotland.

You are spot-on, while hoping the availability and price of Dolberg from Anderlecht would be move conducive after they got knocked out in the conference play-offs, our main failing over the Dolberg bid, was the seemingly lack of good alternatives.
