If/when minds at Celtic get around to considering a replacement for Alan Thompson it would also be wise to recognise the international nature of the game. Lennon, Mjallby, Parker and Thompson were all football sons of Martin O’Neill, rooted in the domestic tradition of the game (even the Swede).
Football philosophy drifts slowly between national boundaries carried by successful coaches and players. Right now the ambitious teams in the world are trying to ape the Barcelona/Spain model, the success of which is hard to argue with, but whether we look for a Spanish influence or not, we must surely look for a voice to challenge what the current management team regard as orthodoxy, in all aspects of the job.

AllGreen. true about our defenders. And we dont know how good/bad Kennedy would have been as he retired too soon. McManus was very good in europe as he had to defend for his life but in spl when we dominated games a simple long ball down the middle often caught him out.

Celtic’s fitness coaching and dietary regime is open to question. On the one hand you have the likes of Maloney, McGeady and Boruc looking leaner, fitter and faster when they leave us and then you have the likes of Commons coming in and piling on the pounds.
I remember the Polish coach having to put Boruc through a crash-diet regime to get him fit for major championships when he was with Celtic.
Exactly, nearly sure when boruc signed for fiorentina he had to lose least a stone straight away ??
players weight should be tested weekly and I don’t know how they can pile on weight if training everyday. When injuryed and can’t train surely they have stricter diet placed on them ?
Proud of my country proud of my people

it’s superb, but don’t be tempted to join halfway, go back to the beginning, well worth the effort, and the story unfolds better
Mort, somebody (McManus) should have taken Kaka out way before he got to the box.

SFFS
Yep. A less honest, or perhaps more cynical player would have taken him out. Sometimes there is nothing else for it when faced with players who are just much better technically than you.
Mort
SFFS ….wash your mouth out ……. LOL

Regarding Pressley, there is a big difference between fitness and speed.
I always said that about Henry’s goals for Arsenal, scary the amount he scored in the EPL by running from the half way line. One simple body check when he set off and no danger to the team, you risk a yellow but do it subtle enough and you’re fine.
Dexter is great fun, easy viewing and with plenty of twists and turns to keep you wanting to see the next episode.
Having watched the latest series this winter, the last episode sets up a lot of new opportunities for the writers just as it was becoming a bit too predictable.
On characters, Dex’s sister Deb has to be one of the best female characters on TV. Has there ever been a woman who swears so much on the box?
Neil Warnock would bring a different generational perspective.. Knowledge of Englidh market and certainly a challenge. He is never a ‘yes man’.
Steve Keane is supposedly a highly rated no2. …. And a Celtic man to boot.
The inability to chase down the opposition, whennot in possession, is the fatal flaw in Stokes and Mc.Court’s game.
If it tok Martinez to point that out vis a vis Maloney, then what in the name of God are our coaches thinking about?
The one thingthat Lennon, Mjallby, Thomson and Parker had in common, was that they all la ked pace.
Perhaps they don’t think that it is necesary.
Our present team lack pace in vital departments.
Sorry to interupt the discussion on Breaking Wind and other T V shows.
As you were! :>)
I heard the actress that played Dex’s sister Deb used to be a man :O) So don’t get to excited about some of her scenes.
Great show, excellent cameo in each series. Sickboy and Julia Stiles very underrated season but there’s not many scarier than John Lithgow, amazing character.
Lhads,
This has probably been aleady discussed, but Ireland could meet ze English in the next stage if they both progress. I reckon hopefully the French will give the Sassanachs a good hiding, (and the Ukrainians will probably give their fans one as well haha) but, if they manage to spawn their way to the top and Ireland get 2nd place, then it’s game on!
I know that Ireland have Italy to overcome but, who better to beat them at their own game than Trapattoni.
McGeady chipping the baw over “The Fantastic English Goalkeeper from the fantastic super dooper best ever league ever”, and sending the English home, would be magic!
ToomuchpleasureCSC
To be fair if you put Iniesta in Caleys team next season he would struggle with the constant chasing of the ball. The top teams have fit players but they usual keep the ball longer so restore energy quicker, it’s why we can wear teams down as the game goes on. It’s pretty simple, and not something new to the game.
Breaking Wind? Blew me away.

Ok guys some input required
I’ve found myself at loggerheads with Aberdeen City Council in a media war of words…
It relates to council unilateral decision making re school football.
As of next term they are enforcing SFA player pathway allowing only non competitive 7 aside football for age under 13s.
They are not applying 4×4 element for p3-5.
I’m
All for small sided (7s) games but not non competitive ( no leagues no trophies no recording of wins).
I’m a spokesperson for approximately 120 coaches all volunteers and my beef is we have not been consulted.
The council are preventing access to pitches for existing. 9 and 11 a side leagues.
I personally feel 11s to be in appropriate. Interestingly English FA proposing 9’s over 7s… In
Common with German and Spanish player pathways.
Aberdeen is an outlyer in Scotland along with Glasgow Catholic Schools.
My argument is that outlyers
Home Alone on Film 4, Home Alone 2 just starting, drinking gin, I need to get out more :O)
Continued…
My argument is outliers are not always bad…
My sense is Aberdeen has more primary level football than most places.. Most schools field teams from p3 onwards.
Anybody got info on their local Primary School football set up they can share?
Cultsbhoy You been on the gin as well??
11 a side is nonsense for kids, no need at all. Your post was all over the place so probably missed your point.
Very good…
Brian McNally @McNallyMirror
Two days off work & there’s nowt on TV except these Royal sycophants doing a passable impression of extras in a staged North Korean rally.
cults..,
looks like its time to start enjoying the game and not the results, we’ve been playing competitive games too early for too long IMO.
Grassroot change has been needed for a long time, now it is being introduced you want to stifle it, why

Somebody did have the chance to take Kaka out on the halfway line.
Unfortunately , that somebody had already got themselves booked for dissent , and hence couldn’t do the necessary.
Cheers guys.
You may return to talking about our coaching issues ;-)
Definitely agree our players aren’t fit enough. Get them on a par with EPL players and we would be so much more effective in the latter stages of games. Especially necessary with an assault* on Europe coming up.
*for the benefit of hun lurkers, this does NOT mean assaulting europe!

When we are facing a third year without the Huns, we might need a few gimics to keep the crouds coming.

iPhone!
I don’t agree with 11s either .
I can’t get my heid round non competitive football after age of say 9 ( by which time kids in Aberdeen been playing for 3 years)
Cults Bhoy,
I think you will find that the enforcement of the SFA pathway, is all tied up in SFA grants etc.
I have coached for about 10 years in the east of Scotland league and the SFA have tried on various occasions to muscle in , and bring in their pathway.
My personal view is that the only people who benefit from all these pathways are companies who make bibs and cones.
Canamalar
I’m all for change..
I want 7’s but in ability appropriate leagues. I get no joy out of 16 goal humpings ( recorded or not the kids keep score)
I think 7s leagues of silar ability teams required.
Kids playing A level
Boys club football or who are with SPL development teams can’t just turn up and be non competitive with kids who have barely kicked a ball…?

CCB, who was the player on a yellow? Lenny or Sno? Regardless they should have pulled him down and took the red. Or they were probably expecting McManus to come towards kaka and pull him down instead of backing away until it was too late.

Books,
read one recently that i would recommend,Gods of Gotham, set in New York in the 1840s as impovrished Irish immigrants arrive in the city in droves and the NYPD is just being formed,You get racism, corruption, police brutality, despised immigrants fighting their corner (often giving worse than they get)
So whats changed eh
The Banished Children of Eve by Peter Quinn is probably the best book I read about irish immigration in New York (covers the period around American Civil War/Draft Riots etc)

I’m in process of completing SFA level 4 coaching.. So I’ve been subject to all their baloni.
My point would be rarely does a 1 size fits all approach work.
I think they are confused by aspirations of producing elite national representatives and the aims of school football.
To my mind flexibility and consultation required between SFA , local Authorities and those actually delivering coaching required.
I’m interested in English pathway..
