Vacant third striker role. The Great Disgruntled

505

Sunday’s defeat to Celtic was by no means Hibernian’s worst result of the season.  The previous week they lost 3-0 at St Mirren.  Earlier in the League Cup, they won against Peterhead, Queen’s Park and Elgin, but lost on a trip over The Bridge to Kelty Hearts, a sore one on more than one level.

Celtic’s visits to Easter Road have seldom been so straightforward, so confidence is high ahead of Sunday’s repeat encounter.  Brendan Rodgers will be wary of how he tripped up at the corresponding round of the League Cup a year ago.  That tournament is the only occasion he has not won a domestic competition over his two periods as Celtic manager, but he is likely to make his selections with an eye on the weeks ahead.

Kyogo’s delicate shoulder, and Adam Idah’s limited action since his virtuoso performance at Hampden in May, gives the manager a dilemma.  Who to play up front?  Rocco Vata will be unaware of what he passed up when leaving Celtic, until later in life.  The third striker role remains open, for now.

Hampden has the largest car park I have seen in front of a football stadium.  Ibrox, on the other hand, has no car park at the front of the stadium, disgruntled fans cannot loiter on Edmiston Drive.

Despite Hampden’s neutral acre out front, you wonder if even this car park will be big enough to host the Great Disgruntled, should St Johnstone win tomorrow.

    Thanks for the link to the Martin O’Neil interview .

    And Steve McLaren got the England gig in front of Martin FFS

  2. we should use that line all the time

    “it is not a celtic-rangers thing, it is a rangers thing”

    for everything bad in the world.

  3. Absolutely brilliant from Brendan.I would not by any stretch of the imagination,say he was” Tactful”Straight between the eyes,” This is not a Celtic Rangers problem.Nothing to do with Celtic.This is a Rangers problem”

    On the subject of them,James Forrest has a very interesting take on this on his Blog today.Worth a read.A different angle on what was said.

  5. Up and down the country SMSM hacks are desperately trying to figure out how they can respond to Brendan setting out the facts of the no away fans at the Glasgow derby matches.

    I’d imagine it will now be quietly dropped as a subject and will be brought up again in the week leading up to the first fixture where we will have football ‘pundits’ telling us that ‘both clubs need to just sort this out’ hoping that the general public, like them, have an IQ in single figures

    That was a class statement by our manager, and make no bones about it, the fact that he was articulate and broke it down in simple terms for everyone , is going to make thems even more upset. Any real Rangers fan can look at this and see where the blame lies, and it’s not with Celtic!!! Very proud of my club today for doing the right thing for our fans. The old firm was over years ago, but one team needs to cling to it, as well as our compliant media.

    Tee hee, Cement has had to get his dog whistle out.

    Tik-Tok and Hagi had better board up their windows.

  8. If we are short of a striker play James Forrest up front ,he has done it before and he’ll do it again ,with success HH

  9. Well said Brendan.

    The Huns and the Media KNOW fine well why Celtic will not be giving the Huns tickets for the September fixture at Celtic Park.

    I wish Brendan had also stopped the Media in the Press Room straight away from trying to attach some sort of ” Blame” towards Celtic FC, by simply stating that maybe the Press boys SHOULD be asking the Huns about THEIR FAILURES in this matter, instead of trying to put some form of blame onto Celtic FC.

    However, it was GREAT to hear Brendan say, ” Its NOT a Celtic/Rangers thing…its a Rangers thing”. He is also correct in saying ” Its NOT complicated”, but the Huns and the Media KNOW that already.

    What’s the odds that Brendan’s comments generates a statement from you know where 🤔

  13. ADAM IDAH is 14/1 with the Bookies ( BET365), to score a Hat Trick against Hibs on Sunday in the league cup.

    I couldnt resist so I had a wee tickle.

    Fingers crossed.

    =====================

    They’re taking advantage of our predicament obviously (they’re poets its what they do) but the board will.be happy were blaming everyone else, the fact we can’t guarantee Ibrox will be ready by the start of the years should be the real story.

    ====

    Someone put up that excellent statement from brendan…

    =====

    If the board don’t call this nonsense out then they should resign from the club. Why are we allowing them to pretend that this is due to Ibrox when everyone knows they aren’t going to provide us 3000 tickets for the game in 2 weeks.

    Dignified silence will get us nowhere, call them out publicly and make it clear that they are the ones preventing away fans at these games. If we stay silent on this its just complete incompetence.

    ========

    There we go

    Mark Benstead now alluding to the fact we stopped their allocation cause “we were getting cuffed and fed up with them celebrating”

    Then he finishes his piece with “Glasgow derby” quip, bought and paid for

    Rodgers knew what he was doing, he’ll now say anything to get fans onside, sadly our shambolic situation allows much gloating and crowing

  16. BIG JIMMY

    Adam scored 7 of his 9 goals away from Celtic park

    Firstly I don’t have a problem and secondly I have met you Tom and I know you are not as stupid as you are pretending to be. But in case I have misread you. You should not be posting peoples names on a public forum especially when you are just hazarding a guess. You could be at best putting them in an awkward position or at worse a dangerous one. So no problem Tom.

  23. Our manager spoke the truth. Hard for the rest to accept it. Equivocation already setting in.

    By the way, Goodlad on Radio Scotland is getting more and more dire. He couldn’t confine himself to simply say that Idah had signed for us. He had to deride our latest player’s reaction to becoming one of us.

    Appreciate you reaching out directly.

    I think I’m going to take your advice and refrain from commenting here about comments on Sentinel Celts.

    (I think most know what site is being referenced, I might as well come clean).

    I say “I think” because I intend to … but human emotions and behaviours fluctuate …. promises and pie crust and all that.

    I pop over to SC infrequently … it has content from a different perspective (which I want to experience) and a handful of ex CQN posters whose posts I enjoyed.

    I wish they still posted here. Hey ho.

    Personally though I’ve never felt remotely connected enough to post there.

    I won’t name names (of people’s names, monikers, or websites) because this is a general observation, perhaps a slightly indulgent one.

    I like that Celtic fans are a genuine broad church.

    I love that Celtic fans are heartfelt and passionate.

    I admire Celtic fans challenging authorities and orthodoxies.

    I have no problem with fans keeping the board on their toes – I think it’s proper and healthy.

    I think it’s great that Celtic fans aspire to better still regardless of how well we are going.

    All good.

    There’s a but ….

    I abhor the snarling, visceral hatred in some posts … which commonly arises when things are not going well … and the rush to judgement (passed while safely anonymous) of other people’s views, stances, intellect and even morality. It’s the stuff of the Bolsheviks.

    I am absolutely bewildered by a twisted belief held by some that Peter Lawwell deliberately harms Celtic to assist R2ngers. Really?

    I’m astounded at the fear the blue bogey man instils in some of our support. Even now.

    Finally, and perhaps most pertinently, I am saddened for those for whom (judging purely by their posts) supporting Celtic brings little pleasure, joy, or ecstasy. They truly have my sympathy.

    These are great times.

    Unprecedentedly great times domestically.

    Could we be better? Of course. Particularly in Europe.

    But Celtic win trophies and make money.

    I remember vividly a time not that long ago when we were miles away from doing either.

    Indulgence endeth.

    Hail hail

  29. NOT A CELTIC-RANGERS THING

    First class reaction to the misinformation and bias media talk surrounding the issue of away fans in games involving Celtic and the Ibrox club. The truth was presented crystal clear by Brendan in a calm, assured and confident manner. It might have taken a while to get here, but it’s right on time…and on the money. The facts are indisputable allowing for the following unequivocal statement: “So, I think Celtic has played their part in what they were asked to do. Again, I go back, nothing of this was Celtic’s issue. Nothing. When you go back to when this all started, it’s nothing to do with Celtic. Celtic gets dragged into this here as being a Celtic-Rangers thing. It’s not a Celtic-Rangers thing. This is a Rangers thing.”

    If we go back to 2011/12 when Rangers FC were imploding, there were calls from some of our supporters for Celtic to be ‘shouting the odds’ and attacking their blatant cheating and other misdemeanours at every turn. To this day there are still references to the resolutions etc put forward urging the board to’ argue the toss’ on each issue on the road to the Ibrox club’s eventual demise.

    Celtic stayed quiet in the most part – “never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake” Napoleon Bonaparte.

    Why would we get dragged in and jump down the hole that Rangers FC (at that time) were digging? The media would have loved it and the whole farce would have been painted as a Celtic-Rangers thing in most quarters.

    We stayed well out of it and just kept winning. We are now stronger than we have ever been while the Ibrox club lurches from one calamity to another.
