Vacant third striker role. The Great Disgruntled

505

Sunday’s defeat to Celtic was by no means Hibernian’s worst result of the season.  The previous week they lost 3-0 at St Mirren.  Earlier in the League Cup, they won against Peterhead, Queen’s Park and Elgin, but lost on a trip over The Bridge to Kelty Hearts, a sore one on more than one level.

Celtic’s visits to Easter Road have seldom been so straightforward, so confidence is high ahead of Sunday’s repeat encounter.  Brendan Rodgers will be wary of how he tripped up at the corresponding round of the League Cup a year ago.  That tournament is the only occasion he has not won a domestic competition over his two periods as Celtic manager, but he is likely to make his selections with an eye on the weeks ahead.

Kyogo’s delicate shoulder, and Adam Idah’s limited action since his virtuoso performance at Hampden in May, gives the manager a dilemma.  Who to play up front?  Rocco Vata will be unaware of what he passed up when leaving Celtic, until later in life.  The third striker role remains open, for now.

Hampden has the largest car park I have seen in front of a football stadium.  Ibrox, on the other hand, has no car park at the front of the stadium, disgruntled fans cannot loiter on Edmiston Drive.

Despite Hampden’s neutral acre out front, you wonder if even this car park will be big enough to host the Great Disgruntled, should St Johnstone win tomorrow.

  1. BTB,

    Great post.Like you,and many others,I remember vividly,when we were,deservedly so,in the early 60 s,being lorded over,and ground down by them.Won nothing,until 65.For me as a kid it was misery.

Now,I take great joy in winning ,Trebles,Doubles whatever. No Board is going to spoil my joy at what I am witnessing.Europe,I seen the great days when we were Kings, when we were feared.Different days now.Sadly.A level playing field then.Might never come back, but should stop no one celebrating Trophies now.Its not the team across the river, the players, etc, not them I want to see suffer, its the mob that follow them.Want them under our heel as long as possible, till the day I die hopefully.

    FROM LAST THREAD TOM

Firstly I don’t have a problem and secondly I have met you Tom and I know you are not as stupid as you are pretending to be. But in case I have misread you. You should not be posting peoples names on a public forum especially when you are just hazarding a guess. You could be at best putting them in an awkward position or at worse a dangerous one. So no problem Tom.

    KEEP THE FAITH

You have completely misunderstood and overreacted spectacularly to what was a lighthearted comment.

I picked the Italian name Togneri as a random Italian surname. I also picked Largs as a random Scottish town of an imaginary Italian family.

You seem to be suggesting that I was risking naming an actual Italian family from Largs.

Even in the astronomically unlikely event that there is such a family, I said nothing negative other than “An Italian background could be a Togneri from Largs”.

Where is the potential damage in that? Where have I besmirched that imaginary family?

Finally, in no way was I pretending to be stupid. I genuinely couldn’t see your issue.

    I still can’t.

Loved Brendans quip/dig “it’s a miracle” when asked about the speedy signing of Idah (welcome home) after the possible injury to Kyogo. He talked of risk/reward when it came to signing players for £2M or £6M when it came to re-sale being relatively the same….and there is no real risk aversion from one to the other. He defended our clubs stance on ticket allocation for the Huns in terms of ignored agreed obligations from them. It wasn’t a masterclass…but it was damn close ;-))

I`m glad you responded. I was wondering what it was you had posted . Now that I know what Tonyrome was referring to, I can see why you would have been surprised at his criticism. It seemed fairly obvious to me that you were just making up the name and large in a humorous way.

  10. PCS…waddya mean again?…they died….were reconstituted as a new club from parts of the liquidated one…renamed The R@ngers International Football Club…and allowed to play in the professional leagues in Scotland using a type of membership that didn’t exist under the rules…but apart from that you’re correct 😂

Togneri family had a famous cafe in Duke Street.

Now featured in the transport museum in Glasgow.

Used to be on the corner on the other side of the road from where Coia’s is now.

It was called the Rendevous Cafe.

Alas no chance, irrespective of what happens , provision has be made for their continued existence. They changed the rules that a phoenix club can come back to the top league.
