Celtic didn’t hit the heights of last week’s win at Tynecastle against Inverness last night but it was a remarkably controlled win nonetheless. The game could have been over as a contest in the opening minutes but as the lead didn’t extend beyond a single goal the contest retained an edge.
Daniel Majstorovic was incorrectly penalised when he correctly challenged for the ball 25 yards from goal but the Swede’s lax initial response to the forward ball created the situation that resulted in his red card. Dan had a painful game against Inverness last season but after they were reduced to 10 men Celtic were far too composed to let Inverness’ numerical advantage count.
We’ve spoken about the value of goals from midfield in recent seasons. Kris Commons lit up Celtic’s season when he arrived in a flurry of goals last year but Joe Ledley’s efforts from the back post this season could prove to be even more important.

Thanks for all your help last week regarding the pub to watch the game in Troon.
Me and the mrs had a long boozy lunch in Scotts on the Friday, went to the pub with a big hangover on the Saturday, met angelgabriel and had a few beers with him, organised game of golf with him for later in the year, went to Lido, got ever so tipsy again.

I called my son who was at uni up there & he suggested a bus that leaves @ 2am from George sq.
It was only midnight when the girl in the sos unit @ central station recommended the M77 bus. She told me to
go round to Waterloo st ( I think,full of whiskey & Murphys) where the bus will stop.
Seemingly this bus leaves Buchanan st bus station on the hour.Only cost around a fiver.
A few friends use this service to commute to Glasgow for work. I was totally unaware that the service existed so late.
This will come in handy as the season progresses.

Totally agree with the credits being given to Joe Ledley, I must say I have always been a fan of Joe since he signed for us,
a good friend of mine questioned what he brought to the team a few times in his early appearances but I stood by Joe saying he is one of those players that you really miss when he is not playing as it is then you realise just what he brings to the table
I prefer him in centre midfield but think he can be very effective from left back aswell, sometimes players can suffer from being too versatlie in that they get shifted about the team to cover any injuries and lose out on cementing their own place in their best position.
I think Lenny agrees with how important Joe is to this team.
On another note can somebody answer a question for me, is it true that Gary Hooper has a better strike rate in his first 50 games for Celtic than Henrik Larsson?
I think somebody posted that on here a while back but can’t be sure

Any good Celts hail from the Chester area? Looking for a good place to watch the LC Final on the 18th of March. The hotel is in the CH2 postcode area and I found a Catholic club in Brook st CH1 which is home of the local CSC, cannot find any contact details though. Got a number for the club itself but would rather talk to a Celt from the CSC.
Any help is mucho appreciated.

I too remember the ball sticking in the stanchion after the Lennox shot. I remember it as a free kick outside the box on the left side. Lennox ran over the ball and the ball was passed through to him to hit a shot from an angle which went across the keeper and finished up high in the corner.
My Celtic Football Companion has April 20th 1974, Celtic 2 (Deans 5 and Lennox 85) Aberdeen 0.
The following week the team clinched nine in a row at Brockville. :-)

The Rangersmedia board had a thread about a press story saying that Whyte has moved the ticketus money offshore. Most of them are swallowing the line that this is a shrewd move and in the huns best interests.
I haven’t read that story anywhere in the press so assume that this is an attempt to play down the impact of the story when it does appear.

Im a bit like that too , loads of memorys about games but trying to place times etc is murder. Can anybody remember a game against aberdeen at CP ,early-mid 70s , Danny Mcgrain was just starting out. We won either 1 nil or 2-1 and bobby lennox scored the winner direct from a free kick and the ball ended up stuck in the net between the bar and the post at the stanchion!! Reason I ask is it was one of my first games at CP with my dad and would love to know just when that was

the sudden burst of midfield goal scoring may come from our coaches trusting them to know when to attack the last third.
Our only goal scoring threat used to comes from wide crosses or individual skill.
We still could have more shots on goal from our possession and that’s a definite area that needs improving.
As the team and coaches confidence improves then hopefully we will be more potent.
Hoping guys like McGeough and Rabu can inject a little more flair to our side.

Glad to see you were in the swing, had a hangover this morning but got up to tidy the house as the mrs had 12 of her pals over and it was like a champagne bottle bank much like it will be when the big event happens in a few weeks.
Starting up with some golf lessons in a couple of weeks, looking forward to you coming up for a game.
My golf clubs the same, tho there are 15 tims now, they call us either “the altar bhoys” or something we can’t quite make out, ma pal has come up with “hope we are in the golf club when rangers die” song specially for that event.

For a while now, some of us have been aware of a changing climate. The enmity between Rangers and Celtic predates the Big Bang, but there has mostly been a mutual tolerance and grudging respect between the clubs.
That has gone now, and the seriousness of this situation hasn’t been fully grasped or understood by observers, commentators or politicians.
Although the term is still commonly used, the ‘Old Firm’ tag is now wholly inaccurate. Rangers and Celtic are two giants in the same city, but the chasm that separates them is a thousand miles wide.
The rivalry between Rangers and Celtic, historically and undeniably, is overwhelmingly sectarian – which is quite legitimate in a free and democratic society – but despite this deep-seated enmity, the co-existence of Rangers and Celtic was always accepted, tolerated and understood by the boards and powerbases at each club.
I’m not convinced that this is still true today.
The current Celtic regime is watching events at Ibrox closely, and the devastation that Sir David Murray has left behind at Rangers did not come as a surprise to the Parkhead board. It’s probably fair to say that Celtic was more aware of impending financial misery at Ibrox than 95% of the Rangers support.
Are Celtic worried about Rangers’ troubles having a negative effect at Parkhead? Not a bit of it. A recent conversation with a clued-up Scot in the English game confirmed my suspicion that Celtic will not be disappointed if Rangers disappear from view altogether.
Contrary to the opinion that many Rangers fans hold, if the Ibrox club goes under, Celtic won’t view it as bad news or even sad news. They will see it as the opportunity of a lifetime; their greatest-ever victory: better than Lisbon.
If the worst comes to pass, Celtic will pursue, with renewed vigour, permanent membership of the English league system.
From a Celtic perspective, attempts to gain entry to the EPL alongside Rangers have been awkward, difficult, and so far, fruitless, but if there is no Rangers, Celtic’s inclusion in the English league system will become inevitable, and this will be like a lottery win for Celtic – a prize beyond their wildest dreams.
A major Glasgow club playing in the EPL, and with no major city rival, is an opportunity for Celtic to become Scotland’s club on the main stage. Eventually, Glaswegians – and Scots – will be encouraged to follow Celtic – a Scottish club that competes in the English league and enjoys massive international media exposure. The hype will be irresistible.
As a friend said to me recently, the door would open for Celtic to become Scotland’s Manchester United.
From a naive chattering-class point of view, the end of Rangers would be the end of sectarian division in Scotland, and this would be welcomed. ‘Open to all’ Celtic would enjoy considerable establishment support while the demise of Rangers would be quietly tolerated.
This is the dream scenario viewed from the east end of Glasgow, and worryingly, it could happen. If the roles were reversed, and there was a chance that Celtic were about to go belly-up, I’d expect Rangers to assess the situation in exactly the same way – and view it as a golden opportunity.

here’s a scenario for you ……….what if rangers win the tax case , sue the BBC and some of the other media outlets , whyte rolls out a billionaires bankroll and funds rangers to the point that every player in the team has a value of millions of pounds . this would almost guarantee league success year after year and constant entry into the champions league where we will become a staple player challenging for the trophy itself . there will be no challenge to the rangers and we will contest through european labour law that we demand entry into the EPL .celtic will then become a bit part player and fall into mediocrity with the rest of scottish fitba

Team that day was Connachan, McGrain, Brogan, Hay, McNeill, McCluskey, Johnstone (Callaghan),Murray, Deans ( Lennox), Hood, Dalglish. Remember it well.

I well remember the 1-0 Joe Craig game – stood right behind the goal at the Broomloan Road end when he got the ball with his back to goal, swivelled – and bang – get in there.
I almost feel like celebrating now!!!
I seem to recall thinking that Joe had actually had a totally crap game up to that point – but in the end, its only the goal that matters.
I seem to remember that was also the game where Greig cut Bobby Lennox in two and broke his leg – penalty to Celtic!!!
But then the linesman indicated that the Buzz Bomb had been offside when he got the ball – cue Bobby stretchered off, no penalty and Greig not even booked.
Same as it ever was!!!
