Value of Ledley’s back post goals

764

Celtic didn’t hit the heights of last week’s win at Tynecastle against Inverness last night but it was a remarkably controlled win nonetheless.  The game could have been over as a contest in the opening minutes but as the lead didn’t extend beyond a single goal the contest retained an edge.

Daniel Majstorovic was incorrectly penalised when he correctly challenged for the ball 25 yards from goal but the Swede’s lax initial response to the forward ball created the situation that resulted in his red card.  Dan had a painful game against Inverness last season but after they were reduced to 10 men Celtic were far too composed to let Inverness’ numerical advantage count.

We’ve spoken about the value of goals from midfield in recent seasons.  Kris Commons lit up Celtic’s season when he arrived in a flurry of goals last year but Joe Ledley’s efforts from the back post this season could prove to be even more important.

  2. jinkyredstar cuts it back for Neil Lennon on

    Some memories on here bhoys:

I was at the Bobby Lennox ‘in the stanchion’ match and then on the pitch at Brickville to celebrate the 9.

I was also ar iPox for the Joe Craig goal – the first time we had beaten Rangers there in 1000 days!

Bobby Lennox was indeed deemed to be offside when John Greig broke his leg.

Bobby was later asked when he realised his leg was broken- he said ‘ when I saw John Greig coming to tackle me’!

    Those were the days

  4. Worryingly, Barcabhoy has posted on RTC of a volte face from the Celtic board re admitting a Newco into the SPL.

The grounds being that it would not be viable without them.

With all my heart, I hope that he is wrong, for Celtic’s case.

  5. Sitting thinking about nothing in particular.

The Coronation Cup came into my old heid.

‘ God save our gracious team,

Long live the Bhoys in green.

    God save out team.

    We beat the Arsenal,

I saw the following, and the thought corssed my mind: Has Alex Salmond reset the bar on offensive behaviour?

Sports Minister Hugh Robertson told Sky Sports News: “There is an issue that still needs to be tackled.

“It goes beyond racism, you hear vile chanting about managers and opposition players.

“I don’t think that really has any place in modern society. If we don’t accept on the high street, I see no reason why we should accept it in a football crowd.”

    Just askin’ like.

  7. The “Cup of Nations” that is currently being held – is it not really just the African Nations’ Cup?

Why does everyone call it the

Similarly, why did football commentators refer to Nakamura as “the Japanese” and not the Japanese footballer or the Japanese player or call another player “the Portuguese” etc? It doesn’t sound right; I mean they wouldn’t call Hooper “the English” would they?

Dharma Bam who is having a long dark grammatical night of the soul

I still don’t believe the Celtic board would be so stupid as to vote for a Newco Hun straight into the SPL

It would be commercial suicide. Fans would walk away in their thousands, including myself
