Absolutely delighted at the arrival of Dutch under-21 international central defender, Virgil van Dijk, on a four year deal. A central defender was one of three priorities for this summer and we have secured our first choice target.
The signing will also give a boost to the squad, and a timely reminder to all that amidst talk of player potentially leaving ‘at the right price’, the Celtic Story is one of progress.
Celtic had the tallest team in the Champions League last season. They were also top scorers from headed goals in the competition until Bayern Munich caught them in the semi-finals. With the addition of two 6’4” players (van Dijk and Balde) we look to be consolidating our strengths.
Welcome to Celtic, Virgil.

Great to see two new signings so early in the season….young signings with potential….I hope that we give them time to settle in and get used to playing for us.
One thing struck me with both these guys is that they have all mentioned that they were overwhelmed by the support at the Barcelona game….so if you think the support don’t make a difference….a very big thanks should go out to the GB for the TIFO…..I am sure that they helped with these guys coming big time…..
I wonder what would have happened if we hadn’t made the group stages and what would have happened if we had been in the CL during the Spivco cheating years……new signings…..new adventures.
Good to see us moving again in the right direction irrespective of what the nae sayers…well say….

About Vic
corkcelt,
Basically it’s the points I’ve ranting on about for years, my assertion the we cannot hold the SFA accountable only our board can do that, but we can hold our board accountable.
Hopefully holding our board accountable will be the driving force for them to call the SFA to account.
The other day I posted my first draft to get the discussion and comment process started and have have good feedback with some excellent ideas so I’m coming to the conclusion the final thing will be very different, then again quite a lot of people like the way I was going with the first draft, we’ll see

The only way Victor will go to Southampton for £10 million is if CFC insist on a 50% sell-on clause.
So when he is sold to Barca or Man Utd for £40 million next year we will get half.
Simples!
HH!!
Celts, the tallest team in last season’s Champions League. That’s a change from the team of midgets at Celtic Park in recent seasons.
I’d wager mighty Barcelona are probably the smallest team competing in European competition.

Via twitter.
@LetRangersDie make sure you include the fact that newco Derry City are seen as a new club by UEFA. Newco have seperate club co efficient…
+++++++++++++++++++++++++
There is one strong advocate of the same club argument on Twitter who wrote about the Derry case on Paul McConville’s blog as a justification of the same ckub argument before the coeffiecent was apparently altered. He is not going to like hearing that a plank in his argument seems to have been pulled away.
My argument with him was that to leave the co-efficient as was with prior performances by the old Derry taken into account, was in conflict with UEFA Article 12 and that if a push came to a shove UEFA would apply the principles behind Article 12 (where the rules say a club required 3 three years membership [not accounts for any naughty bhoys not paying attention] of a national association (the SFA) before they were eligible to play in a UEFA competition.
I suspect that as a result of his article and the heat created somebody (not me) asked UEFA to clarify and on thinking it through they recognised to include old performances gained possibly where a club had a sporting advantage that broke it financially and which brought Article 12 into play, meant UEFA could hardly include unfairly gained points by that old club in calculating the co efficient for the new club. I mean that hardly would be fair woulod it? This whole fair play concept is obviously causing those who never understood it some problems.
The BBC, then the UEFA co efficient and ASA reviewing their decision and Speirs spouting on the matter. Its not been a good week for the same club advocates.
I will email you over the weekend having had a chat with a couple of people
Congratulations on your fortitude. Like me you see the character assasinations for what they are. The work of tiny minds foolishly exposing their own limitations. Empty vessels. Its a hazard as they are far too stupid to even realise it.
Like you I am not going away.
Celtic sign a player Big WAO
Celtic ignore the SFA and their shenanigans and the media manipulation would shame Jack Irvine.

Dylan was out injured for a considerable time and then struggled to get a place in the team.
I’m led to believe that NL rates him highly and that he’ll start many more games next season.
Welcome to Celtic big Virgil and congratulations to the scouting staff and the bored for securing the deal.

Victor Wanyama has confirmed that Celtic have agreed a fee with Southampton for his transfer… “I am on holiday, I am only hearing this from the media but I can say the deal is far from being complete. Yes, my club has agreed terms with Southampton, but I will also have to agree to terms before I consider myself a Saint.”
You know it’s highly likely that the SFA also manipulate things in order to keep Celtic PLC happy, por cierto.
Pete The beat @ 17.23 ……. Normally I cease my sub to Sky at the end of May ’til Sept. but thanks to a special offer from them I’ve kept it on. I watch all the Heineken and Magners games but i must admit I’m looking forward to tomorrows test against the arrogant Aussies.

Whilst the resolution may not get very far at the AGM itself if something balanced and sensible emerges (which I would fully expect to emerge from contributions on CQN) so that it can get on the agenda, that is a story in itself that leads to the question why have supporters gone to this effort?
What it would tell the SFA (and the public) is that their decisions can cost shareholders of clubs money and those shareholders will expect their cloubs to challenge the SFA where skullduggery to the benefit of one club over others is suspected. It tells the SFA they have to be professional not a bowling club committee (with apologies to the good ones)
If folk think they can get away with a crime then there is no deterrent to committing it. However if an organisation knows that it may face compensation claims then its processes have to prove they are acting in an equitable fashion.
Canalamar’s point about making the SFA accountable via the clubs is correct as I think you will agree.
It is just that the mechanism for doing so requires a lot of effort (which is another issue to be addressed) but on this one – getting a message to the SFA that there will be consequences of rule bending or ignoring (and there is lots of evidence from the Charlotte revelations that they are guilty)I think canalamar is on the right track.
The practicalities are getting the hundred names and then the form of words. However if that can emerge over the next week or so, there is nothinng to stop the draft getting out there via Twitter with a request for support from the wider Celtic shareholding family.
masty
Reading between the lines, if Celtic could match the Hulls and the Southamptons of this world, (not easy I know), both Victor and Gary could well be with us over the next season. Different if a Spurs or Arsenal came in though. If both were staying and Stokes re-signs then I would be more than happy heading toward the CL qualifiers.
Canamalar,
Popularity game ???
Aye we learned niet from moonbeams.
Its a virtual blog.
New media has been good for Celtic. Time to return the favour. They can cherry pick no more.
If they are running the club for us then they need to listen.
If they are not even prepared to do that then they need to move over. Our ethos needs embraced by our billionaires. Not just given lip service as a sales pitch.
We are charitable minded but the charity afforded to the SFA and their play thing is charity too far.
Its not how I was brought up.
I think of all those missed opportunities that I had to face. If the club is not prepared to throw us a crumb of communication that they are fighting tooth and nail against it …direct oppression ..when you cant even get a fair game of professional football or you can call a professional footballer a fenian B and get away with it but an Irish republican identity or singing a rebel song gets you lifted …while ours pretends that nothing is up….then they dont represent me, my identity or what I believe Celtic to be.
I email you tomorrow

Can I Have Raspberry On That Champions League Ice Cream
It’s from Facebook, doesn’t look like it’s got any source reading the comments, silly season is on us…
I think the big man would be daft to go this season and I can’t see Celtic letting him go even if he wants to, he’s still got two years on his contract..

It’s usually the small-minded who call anyone who holds differing views ‘small-minded’ …… Onwards and upwards for the BHOYS IN GREEN…
Canamalar 1……. Just to stress that I am not including you in the ‘category’ …. Looking forward to reading your presentation on what you feel the Board should be doing to address the effect of the corruption on our Club …… I only hope you are not influenced by anyone else’s bitterness and ignorance, since that would adversely affect the objective /impact ……. And look forward to any (sensible) debate on the subject….HH

You may be on the money about Dylan’s loss of mojo.
However I believe he’ll come good.
He’s an interesting player, good control and a fair amount of flair – I hope he makes the cut as you Yankee bhoys would say.
