van Dijk signs four year deal

1571

Absolutely delighted at the arrival of Dutch under-21 international central defender, Virgil van Dijk, on a four year deal.  A central defender was one of three priorities for this summer and we have secured our first choice target.

The signing will also give a boost to the squad, and a timely reminder to all that amidst talk of player potentially leaving ‘at the right price’, the Celtic Story is one of progress.

Celtic had the tallest team in the Champions League last season.  They were also top scorers from headed goals in the competition until Bayern Munich caught them in the semi-finals.  With the addition of two 6’4” players (van Dijk and Balde) we look to be consolidating our strengths.

Welcome to Celtic, Virgil.

  1. Good evening Celts,

Zbyszek, from page 1 or 2 on this blog. I also feel it that Celts will meet the Legia in the qualifying rounds, if it happens then my house is your house for the game in Glasgow. The game game in Warsaw, I may need help with extra tickets because its going to be a party ✊

It is difficult reading some of the released material to establish just where Rangers stop and the SFA begin.

You’ll need a square and compass to work that out accurately. Not much in it I reckon.

Give Sandy Bryson a ring – I heard he’s very helpful on these matters.

Absolutely …… There is a case for the SFA etc to be held accountable for their corrupt behaviour throughoutt this pathetic saga and, if presented professionally, we may get our case over …….so many questions they need to answer..!!!!

  8. My view on the big question of the day is this.

I think that Mary Crosbie is Bing’s daughter, by his second marriage and not his grand daughter.

    Oh and welcome Virgil.

Plus, for what it’s worth, I think Dylan needs regular first team football to see if his abundant skill can overcome his physical stature.

A losn to Tannadice or somewhere similar could be the answer.

On reflection, I don’t think that a move to a club like Soton or Hull, etc., would be bad for Vic.

He seems to me to be a sensible lad, who will have planned his career moves carefully.

Going from the SPL to a top club, in a top league, would be a gamble, at this stage of his development.

He is still a player with potential.

As we all recognise, he still has much to learn.

A good place to develop would be at a mid level EPL team, where he will play against top players regularly.

The half dozen or so CL games that he may get with us showed that he has the potential to step up.

However, until he has the maturity to perform at that level consistantly, then the big clubs won’t come near him.

a couple of years honing his game, then at around 24. or 25, bring it on.

Something similar from Mc.Carthy stepping up to Wigan and now…….who knows?

    Auldheid,

I have raterly disagreed with you and I still owe you a fish and chips. I am all for it but we have to practice what we preach. Its a shame that governance is so neglected for as long as we can make a quick buck that it has to come this far.

You and Canamalar get it. You both know I only react when a line has been crossed. I only initiate friendly fire when it gets personal in an admirable attempt to protect the club. I though am not prepared to take however much I understand and appreciate the motivations.

I am reluctant to apoligise for it as it is such a vital part in our clubs history and how I want it to develop and not just on the park.

I fear any kind of collusion will eventually result in a controlled fudge. A cherry pick of what the plc want rather than what we want ?

I would even accept compromise rather than a plc cherry list. First on that list must be the annhiliation of how the SFA goes about its business and therefore our business. So I am all for it.

My personal problem is I fear the truth may be unpalatable but thats hun behaviour.

    HH

    Plc or club argument ?

When we talk in terms of movements then their should be no debates.

We are Celtic not OF and thats what motivates me.

  16. masty,

I think we should rethink the loan- out system.

Use it as a stepping stone to the first team and not as a gentle heave out the door.

It would be good for other clubs’ finances, too.

  18. I really hope we qualify for the Champions League for more than just the obvious reasons.

If we were to drop down to the Europa league during the qualifiers and subsequently qualify we could face up to 5 home league games being moved to a Sunday to accommodate Thursday night fixtures.

I really hate games being moved to a Sunday and hope we can make the ECL to avoid this and for the other reasons too of course.

Early signing are a good wy to help avoid this. Wee done Celtic.

  25. corkcelt,

This was the first attempt and have since had many good ideas and additions, it is simply a starter for ten to get the juices flowing, we have many excellent posters who if they decide to make an input will likely make it bullet proof, it needs to be concise, unambiguous and leave as little wriggle room as possible.

We need the board to know what is coming there will be no ambush or sudden last second changes, their response to this will tell us everything we need to know.

We the undersigned have concerns we would like addressed by our board being the legal representatives and responsible to protect our interests.

Recent information made public has raised concerns about the integrity of the governance of the market in which we operate, specifically on the qualification and issuance of license to practice.

Serious questions have been raised on the administration of the rules, fundamental to the integrity of the sports governance.

We would like responses to the following questions

    1. Have our representatives/board raised any concerns with the sfa on the information recently made public, what was the response ? if not why not

    2. Are our representatives/board satisfied with said response ? why

    3. Are our representatives/board aware of any irregularities, what steps have you been taken to protect/recover the interests of the minority shareholders?

    4. What is the boards strategy to recover earnings lost through governance irregularities which may come to light at a later stage?

    5. If there is no strategy to recover lost earnings from the offenders, will the decision makers be compensating the minority shareholders from their own holdings, if not why not ?

    6. If the decision makers are considering such compensation how will this be calculated :o)

As I said before, I hope the board have been waiting for some shareholders to begin the push on this, take the agenda out of their hands and they are simply responding to their shareholders concerns, the meeja will hate it.

Does anyone think it would be a good idea to list a day by day account of the great fakeover events over the last few years?

I’ve seen loads of great and not so great information everyday for the past few years (as have we all), but none have a simplistic timeline format (one quick reference) detailing EVERYTHING that has happened in this corrupt debacle!

I’d love to get something moving to produce such a document.

    Anyone interested???

The look on their faces when I made my report with their money in my hip was priceless :oD))) they never told me it was dependent on my report, I’m a bit naive like that.

maybe I’ll get job doing fact finding missions in exotic locations around the world for the club or the SFA :o)

Somehow I doubt it, more likely there might be a wee smear campaign, I’m sure there are plenty willing to help.
