VAN PERSIE MISSES CELTIC TIE

1

FENERBACHCE star Robin van Persie will miss the Europa League tie against Celtic with a thigh injury.

Thursday’s game in
Istanbul is meaningless to the Hoops, but it’s crucial to the Turks who need a point to guarantee their place in the last 32.

The former Manchester United and Arsenal star is awaiting results of a scan to see how he long he will be out.

A club statement said: “Robin is undergoing an MRI scan about an injury to his thigh.

“We expect to receive more information about his injury next week.”

But van Persie’s absence won’t upset the fans too much as he has netted just five times since signing.

And the Dutch star has never scored in the Europa League/UEFA Cup, drawing a blank in 15 appearances.

Celtic have been written off ahead of the Group A finale after taking just two points from five games.

But Fenerbahce were lucky to escape with a 2-2 draw at Parkhead and two other stars will also miss Thursday’s return.

Former Manchester United winger Nani and Danish defender Simon Kjaer are out through suspension.
