We are a small country with a small talent pool. You see evidence of this on the field at international tournaments (or more commonly, the qualification stage). Despite this, we expect elite performance from our officials, who are held to a higher standard than even Celtic are, when compared to Europe’s elite clubs.
The SPFL (previously SPL) have had a chief exec from outside Scotland since 2009, a period during which the Wisdom of Solomon was required. Yesterday, the SFA appointed their first VAR Manager – Jon Moss, a former top-flight referee in England.
Our implementation of VAR under the previous Head of Referees, Crawford Allan, was very poor. Allan was out of his depth, and forced the country to endure enforcement which was clearly nonsense, until the December 2022 World Cup gave him a chance to reset guidance.
Since then, guidance, enforcement and confidence have varied. We needed change. Rightly or wrongly, the VAR Manager is going to get the blame for a lot of things. Recruiting someone from outside our intense patch of land might be the wisest thing new Head of Refereeing, Willie Collum, ever does.
People will still moan about mistakes, they will still accuse referees and their overlords of bias, but the VAR Manager has clean hands. This is a very good thing.

A podium is better than a Pie.
Cheaper too.
Aye, and the VAR manager needed to have clean hands. Unfortunately it’s still has the same bosses and staff.
MOR to Chelsea, £30 plus million

If Solomon had been in charge he would have made sure their history would have been consigned to history.
We’ll see!
Moss has an ego larger than his waistline
Moss should be a good thing, getting Dallas and Aitken to explain their decisions would be a start!
Celtic once again mentioned Flavius Bigisdikus.
The weedy Michael Nicholson was heard to shout” “Ohhh Matron”
Anyone else notice the way,I was going to say insidious, its anything but,the way the media are bigging up Diomande,Sterling, and now Barron?.Which will be the first to be valued around £15-20 million ?
Celtic once again mentioned Flavius Bigisdikus.

that must be who is meant when we keep getting told the price for MOR is £25m plus strap-ons.
at least i think thats what i heard 😋
We’ll see how long he lasts.
The SMSM will be after him if too many decisions start going against R2angers.
i think the game on Sunday is a key early indicator of where we are. Away games in Edinburgh are usually tough (with some glorious outliers) and we have struggled against some rank Hibs teams in the past as they raise their game , and fans hopes, vs Celtic then go back to being pish.
A dominant display and and win with a clean sheet will cement last week’s performance.
looking forward to it, whether in CSC or dodgy stick
i think the game on Sunday is a key early indicator of where we are

not sure i agree.
hibs are rank.
but if we win 4-0 again then i will take it as a continuation of good performances since the start of pre-season.

This will be the same Jon Moss who asked his 4th official to check the tele in order to make a call, in the days before VAR iirc?
Officials should follow an agreed process in order to ensure consistency for all – not a good look for me.

“There will of course be a significant legal bill to be settled during this accounting period which we don’t know the extent of;”
To echo SAINT STIVS on 8TH AUGUST 2024 10:45 AM:
What significant legal bill have Celtic PLC got to pay in the next financials?
I posted on here some time ago that, assuming you are referring to the Boys Club case that has somehow found its way to being claimed against a separate legal entity (CFC) that we MIGHT have insurance to cover this as otherwise I’d expect to see a Contingent Liability in the accounts for this and I vaguely remembered a club statement saying lawyers from our insurers were involved and as such no comment would be made?!
Since then I’ve seen this (our insurance policy will indemnify us against any claim/damages) repeated as fact on other sites/bloggers but not reputable once afaiac.
Can anyone actually confirm if we have any cover for this or not?
@Paul67 ?

i think it is fair to say that no one on this blog can confirm or deny if we really have such insurance.
and even if someone does somehow know, we are on a blog, so why take their word for it over another blogger who says the opposite? and i include P67 in that, not that he would comment on that in any way.
until it plays out, or the PLC come out and comment on it then i think the whole insurance/no insurance debate is ridiculous and not sure it adds anything to the blog
Hope so paul67

I was about to congratulate you on a good post but your `legal issues` comment made me feel the rest of your post was just the wrapping paper for your main and unfounded objective .
Poor show ( Unless you are a Hun then your bias is as I would expect).
I know Jon Moss. Although he is highly capable, he has a huge ego but is also very brittle – I have witnessed him storm off out of a meeting where he didn’t like what was being said, and then storm back in and demand that others leave instead of him. He left his job at PGMOL under a cloud after falling out with his colleagues. I hope he succeeds at the SFA but suspect he’ll be out of Scottish football before Phil Clement.
Good afternoon all from the Victoria Bar. I hope you are all hale and hearty. And if not, why not?🤔

“i think it is fair to say that no one on this blog can confirm or deny if we really have such insurance.”
True, but any legally/accountancy experienced folks might be able to advise re: my theory of a contingent liability or given an example where we might still be liable but not have to have this in accounts?
“and even if someone does somehow know, we are on a blog, so why take their word for it over another blogger who says the opposite? and i include P67 in that, not that he would comment on that in any way.”
See comment above. Paul often would reply to such questions, on the blog or by email in the early days. Its a shame he does not / cannot now.
“until it plays out, or the PLC come out and comment on it then i think the whole insurance/no insurance debate is ridiculous and not sure it adds anything to the blog”
It might add context to why we are hoarding cash like its going out of fashion which would add something to the blog.

Hopefully me commenting on / querying that does not expose me as a hun – or I might get kicked off the supporters bus ;)

Mission accomplished by the midnight caller.
Other persona used to post faux reasonable posts with intention of fomenting unrest and deflecting Celtic fans from positive to negative narratives.
Disappeared during our treble winning season (which one I hear you ask?) … due to a lack of negative material to establish any traction.
PS – his praise of Ross Wilson lives long in the memory.
